Places to stay in cornwall, next to beach...

Looking for a place to stay in cornwall, either cottage or caravan park, have already been to st ives, the kids loved the beaches, rock pools and parks so anywhere that is near these.

There are sooo many places in Cornwall to choose from! We go every year and stay in a little village called St Agnes.

Thats the problem K999, can find many places but can't choose, I looked at pentewan sands, then bude, newquay, we have been to st ives, loved portreath, kids loved the rock pools, where do you stay?

PILs have a holiday home there. There are quite a few campsites and caravan parks in that neck of the woods. Porthowan and Perranporth are nice.

We went to Portreath last year and are going back this summer.

I love Perranporth too, although I've not stayed there, just spent the odd afternoon on the beach. So much space .

Hayle beach is v.good IIRC from my childhood. It's huge too.

Polzeath has a fabulous beach. We've stayed at St Tudy and driven to there, but are considering somewhere a bit nearer this year.

Am a little confused OP: do you mean you want something similar to St Ives but not St ives or do you mean you want something in St Ives ?

If you want somewhere in St Ives, I can heartily recommend this charming little place . It only has one bed so DCs slept on comfy sofa bed in lounge. You could not be more "on the beach" than this place! We stayed there during half term and it was lovely. A view of the harbour and Porthminster Beach from every room :)

There's a lovely little beach called Polly Joke or Porth Joke up on the north coast close to Crantock (which is just west of Newquay). Beach is sandy with water-worn caves to explore and a little stream that runs down the beach so you can build dams etc. Best of all it doesn't usually get too crowded. It's also close to some of the better known wide sandy beaches.

We've stayed in the nearby village of West Pentire, too - I'm sure if you search you'll find something online.

we've stayed in carbis bay which is about a mile away from st ives. it is a beautiful place and nowhere near as busy as st ives. the beach is blue flag and has life guards, there isn't much on the beach - a cafe/shop, and a kayaking place (not sure how you spell that!) - perfect for playing in the sand, rock pools and bodyboarding. at low tide you can walk around to hayle beach and you can also walk along the coastal path into st ives or catch the wonderful seaside train. there are a couple of restaurants in carbis bay, but really you would need to go into st ives in the evening, or stay in - train is about £4 return for a family of 4 - and so much easier than trying to park. the problem with st ives is most properties do not have a parking space, and traffic / trying to park can be a nightmare! I think everywhere in carbis bay will have a parking space . we've stayed at a fantastic apartment www.seashellsatthesands.co.uk - it's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and it's worth every penny - very well equipped for children, and only a short walk to the beach or train - we are going back again .... the sea views are awesome! but if it's out of your budget there are plenty of other options - just check out the local companies & websites - there are a couple of caravan parks in hayle, which is about 5 miles away

I'm another vote for Carbis Bay.

We stayed at one of the apartments from the Carbis Bay Hotel. They have 2 beach houses http://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/html/self-catering/beach-houses.html here. You can't get closer to the beach!
The prices did go through the roof a few years ago though so we haven't been back since.

We love SE Cornwall for lots of reasons. First no driving on the A30 which can get really clogged in the summer but come in via Plymouth on A38 which is a much better and less busy road dual carriageway all the way. It is also less busy on this side of Cornwall but you can still get to places like Polzeath (where our kids like to surf now they are older) within about 40 mins. The beaches are quieter too (avoid Looe beach in the summer but go a few minutes the other way to Seaton/Downderry which is our favourite and has a fab cafe) We usually stay at Wringworthy Holiday cottages near Looe because it has a swimming pool which the kids live in and an indoor play place. The beaches are a few mins away. There are loads of specialist cornwall websites but we do like visitcornwall.com which is run by the tourist board because then you know everything has been inspected and you won't end up somewhere grotty. Would say though that if you are looking for school summer hols then you may have left it a bit late for the good places but always worth a try! Hope this helps.

Trevone is a good place - it is near Padstow which tends to get rather busy in summer school holidays, but Trevone itself is fine. It's got sandy and rocky beach, so plenty to keep children entertained for hours and walks too (depending on how old children are). Harlyn Bay is a 20 minute walk round the corner too, so lots of options. Never stayed in Trevone before, we usually stay Coombe Mill which is out near st tudy actually... but I have friends that have stayed rented cottages and loved the place.

Like Mary B we have stayed at www.coombemill.com near St Tudy and really rated Polzeath and Daymer Bay (both join up at low tide). Lovely rock pools, facilities and a great day out with no more than an ice cream to pay for! :)

Perranporth for us. the children love the beach. The older children go surfing, body borading and skim boarding and the little ones play in the shallows. rocks to explore and all easy access with buggies etc.
We're staying in perranporth itself this year as in previous years we've stayed elsewhere and ended up in Perrnaporth on numerous days. Perrnaporth Inn, basic but clean, and comfortable. It hasn;t got the cath kidston esque feel of St ives or Padstow so may put some people off, but still a lovely family orientated place to stay rather than Newquay itself which is lads and gals holiday heaven.

I actually work for the St Aubyn Estates Holiday Cottages in West Cornwall and we have some lovely ultra family friendly cottages that include cots, high chairs and toy boxes. All the cottages are situated on or near a beach and have stunning sea views plus they're a perfect base for taking the kiddies rock-pooling, swimming and even surfing if they're old enough!

OP - We went to Pentewan Sands last year for a week and enjoyed it so much that we have booked for 2 weeks this year.
It's lovely and has it's own beach.

another vote here for carbis bay - lovely rental flats/apartments in the bottom of the village near the beach - also agree on polzeath

Anywhere from Bude to the South. Trebarwith and Crackington Haven are some of my favourite places on North Coast. If you do a search on somewhere like cottages4you (MN discount) - you can stay in some lovely places inland from them very reasonably and then are only 5 miles drive to any beaches. Also Sennen Cove right down in South (near Land's End) is lovely.
