Yoto Player vs Toniebox vs??

Have been looking at these for our DD 4th bday. Lots of reviews online but they all feel a bit 'influencer'-esque (the type where they're given it for free and only talk about positives). Can't find anything directly comparing them either.

Does anybody have experience of either and ideally a comparison? Are there any alternatives?

Thanks!

Thanks for the insight ladies. Just purchased a Yoto for my 3 year old. If anyone would like to use my code it’s:

I’m so pleased I stumbled across this discussion as I’ve been deliberating between a tonie box and Yoto for a few days now, but after reading the comments here (and a lot more research!) I think the Yoto’s the one for me. Personally what swung it was the design, as it’s states on the website it’s “designed for flexible play around the house”.. which means my daughter can insert a card and walk or dance her way around the house without interfering with the music/story, whereas the tonie box needs to be set down on something to ensure the tonie doesnt slip off. I have a very energetic 3 year old so it’s a no brained for me!

Anyway thank you @LisaMikeJules for your code, here’s mine in case anyone wants to use it;

Have a lovely wkd ladies!

We bought the yoto for our youngest and now the oldest wants one too, very very pleased with it. We have the daily podcast at breakfast (keeps them at table). The meditation before bedtime is great for settling and the oldest is loving making their own playlists. I think it's better than the tonies one as it doesn't involve plastic toys so they won't grow out of it.

Here's our discount code

@Maddieandalbert Thank you, just used your code.

Thank you everyone’s recommendation. I have been looking for a while and almost bought the Tonies. But I think Yoto definitely better in the long run. I am buying this for my 1yr old but I think his brother would benefit from it too. The books for older children seems really good and some books are 4 hours long.. really worth the money.

Here is my refer code if anyone need it.

Best gift this year, my kids love it!

Lskz · 01/12/2020 09:03

Thanks a lot for the referral code Jessybt
I’ve just ordered one and cannot wait to present this to my almost 5 yo.
I think it’s perfect for bilingual/multilingual kids as well. My son is multilingual, we use OPOL method which means we do t read books for him in English at home. This is a perfect for us as we can keep reading books in other two languages and he can still listen in English.
Here is my code if anyone wants £10 off

Another code here for £10 off if anyone needs:

yoto.refr.cc/benwilliams

We went for Yoto over Toni in the end as more features espcially the free content which is curated and released daily like the Yoto radio channel and podcast and daily audio fun, cheaper to get content and looks like we will get more use as our daughter gets older she is 5 now.

Pangomonium · 07/12/2020 19:23

We're really excited to get ours, thanks for sharing that there's a £10 discount with the referral code! Here's another one incase someone else wants one 🙂 yoto.refr.cc/marionatack

CarolineB1973 · 12/12/2020 06:39

We chose the Yoto after much research. The cards work out much cheaper, there appears to be more choice of books and it will grow with your child. Here’s a referral code for £10 off too!

Hi all, just wanted to come back to this thread to say we finally bought DD a yoto for Christmas (w/ code from this page) and she LOVES it. We now get kicked out of her room at bedtime so she can listen to stories on it!

Our two fave features are

  1. the app which allows you to control things like max volume and the earliest they can use it in the morning/latest it can be used at night.
  2. any card you buy/playlists you make are stored virtually, so even if you lose a card (inc if it's one you bought from yotostore) you can just make another copy of it on a blank card.

Thanks for all the comments - very happy with our choice!

We have a Toniebox and are delighted with it. Didn't know about the Yoto. Any Tonie discount codes gratefully received!

thelake · 30/12/2020 15:29

Yoto. So much better and will grow with the child. 6 and 7 year old both love it and we have a lot of content now on the cards. The cards are easy to store too

OHolyTights · 01/01/2021 14:31

Though they can feel expensive at about £14.99, the Tonie figures are really lovely and are toys to admire, hold, fiddle and play with in themselves. One DC has just been given the first lullaby Tonie and I wouldn't call some of the songs relaxing or soothing in their music or singing unfortunately!

Whingewhingewine · 06/01/2021 11:47

I know this is an old thread but it came up on google, I have a full review of both and the comparisons between the two here www.whingewhingewine.co.uk/yoto-player-review.html

MissPMA · 03/02/2021 19:59

We’ve been loving our yoto and it does so much more than I realised before I bought it, clock and night light, podcasts and radio and I like the fact that the volume can be limited using the phone app.
our 7 year old mainly enjoys the podcasts and different sound effects and our 5 year old loves the audio books, they both really like the crackling fire and tell ghost stories with it on. I had been unsure as it was a relatively big investment but it really is versatile and has been used every day since Christmas. We signed up to the yoto club which has been good and is exciting to see what comes but think we’ll only keep it another month or so.
If you need a referral code mine is yoto.refr.cc/Ma1981

OHolyTights · 05/02/2021 15:41

I've come back to eat my words about the first lullaby Tonie - it has grown on me which is a good job because it has become a firm favourite with DC. Over a month on, the Toniebox has been in daily use since Christmas and you can't say that about many toys.

SujGadd · 18/02/2021 15:36

Hi

We bought the Yoto player last week and absolutely love it. I had to cancel the Tonie at the last minute and really glad I did. My 5 year old and 2 year old boys love listening to the daily broadcast. We bought Zog and friends and all 19 of Roald Dahl cards. Absolutely brilliant.

I especially love the make your own cards. Super easy and the content can be deleted and the cards reused. Grandparents have used it too. The night light has been a big hit with my eldest.

Super glad we didn't go for a Tonie at the end - I did a lot of research before going for Yoto. The big thing for me was that the cards were reasonably priced and Yoto had licensing deals with Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton books. We also wanted to support British innovation - note Yoto is a British company whereas Tonie is German. It might not be important to some, but it is for us. The accent is also British. They have good deals with BBC, for example The Wind in the Willows, The Railway Children, etc. I think the boys would have outgrown the Tonie but Yoto has longevity. I am hoping they will get Harry Potter too - fingers crossed.

I have used your code @MissPMA

Here is my referral code: yoto.refr.cc/sujeewag

Thanks

I'm sold on the Yoto.
Any recommendations for a 3 year old and anyone's discount not been used?

Thanks

Ness84 · 28/02/2021 09:47

So I came on looking for a discount code for the 10 off, these reviews helped sway me to yoto over tonie 😁 but the refferal links didn't seem to be working nor the codes aka friend xxxx

Anyway I just found this:

www.yotoplay.com/blogs/yoto-journal/yotos-referral-scheme-is-changing#

Seems all is on hold until March 2nd...

I have a pretty full basket trying to purchase yoto player along with some cards with the discount for world book week (15%) which ends March 4th so I would be super grateful if anyone could send me their new refferal code on the 2nd or 3rd so I can try to get all the discounts together 😂 I am not sure if a referral code can be used more than once it read like it could be 🤞

Many thanks in advance!!!

MissPMA · 04/03/2021 19:49

Sorry this is probably too late for you @Ness84 but my new referral code is prz.io/rzxArkQi0
