Is it worth having some PT sessions to get me started?

I am finally at a weight I am happy ish with however I have also been trying to improve my strength and mobility which I am finding harder. I also really want to tone up especially my arms and my stomach.

my weeks exercise is currently 1 swim (750m but I am trying to increase this), 1 Pilates session and 1 HIT so I would like to add in some strength training a few times a week. My core is not great but is improving with the Pilates.

I’m not sure if it’s best to pay for a couple of PT sessions which are quite expensive or whether to try following a you tube type thing first. I don’t have any weights at home so would be doing in the gym with iPad and headphones.

I had a quick try in the gym today, I would need to start with 3kg weights so am very much a beginner.

Definitely! My PT has showed me how to lift all different types of free weights properly, and also corrects my technique so it’s safe and I’m not straining anything. He also gets me to lift more than I would if I was by myself. I also feel confident to do my session myself when he’s away.

Yes yes yes!!!! Good form is really important to make sure you don’t hurt yourself and that what you’re doing is actually strengthening.

Pay for a few sessions to make sure you are doing everything right, then crack on for 6-8 weeks. Then have another session to check no bad habits are creeping in and maybe vary your routine a bit.

Absolutely! Or look for group PT classes which are what I attend. You get the training and attention to form which you need to lift safely, but share with others.

yes, if you are new to gym absolutely. Form for sure, but having someone just showing you how the machines work and how to adjust them will make you a lot more confident.

I started with a small class aimed at getting women lifting which is great because they explain why you do things that way and the right form etc. I now also have PT sessions with one of the trainers and that’s even better and has really helped me have the confidence when I’m in the gym alone too (with his program!)

If it was me I would find a small group pt gym or group session that I could afford to do twice a week and have that as my new routine. In a small group the pt will be keeping an eye on everyone, but everyone works to their own weights so it's better value for you and more likely you can continue long term.
