What do you do between sets?

Just that really. Me I've been logging my activity on the hevy app last couple of times, before that I was 'dancing' around and stretching and probably looking strange. Sometimes I might go for some actual yoga rather than random stretches. Other times I might tap my foot impatiently and look around until the rest period is over. All depends on my mood really. But I love going!

I just don't feel quite comfortable because when I look around everyone's calmly sitting on their phones or chatting. I don't have any gym friends.

Am I a complete weirdo? What do you do?

Read my emails; scroll Insta; play Solitaire.

Doom scroll. Play the NYT games. Listen to music. I have to set a timer so I don’t get too distracted!

I’m new to this - joined the gym a couple of months ago. I sit in silence and look around, and smile if I happen to meet someone’s eye!

Fillybuster · 28/11/2025 23:11

Opposite problem most of the time: too many gym friends can easily result in not enough sets between chats!

Badslipperluck · 29/11/2025 09:35

@CassandraMortmayne me too about two months at a gym where I can actually strength train. You're obviously more sociable than me :)

Listen to podcasts

I’d like to make some friends so figure eye contact and a smile is where it starts. No luck yet!

but also I don’t want to chat too much to people in a way, because I’m quite happy in my lane, finding my own rhythm and what works for my body.

Edit my video, send it to my coach, listen to feedback if he happens to be online at the same time, watch my footage and think what I need to work on next set. Stare into space, chat, go to the loo, eat something if I need fuel.

Do a different exercise eg some abs or mobility. That might be not strictly the done thing but it’s what I’ve always done for efficiency
