I’m wondering if anyone can offer any insight please -
for context, I started doing YouTube workouts about 3 months ago, initially walking workouts but then incorporating some weights (following a video, not freestyle!). I got a set of 0.5/1/1.5kg ones so have been mainly using the 1k ones as they make me feel like I’ve had a good workout after but don’t leave me feeling achey. I generally do six workouts a week, 2/3 of those using weights.
two weeks ago I did a 30 minute session which had six minutes of weights, I used 1kg. No unusual movements. The next day the back of my arm felt a bit sore. I did another workout the next day and it felt a bit worse and the next day I was in a lot of pain. I think it’s my tricep, it’s the back of my arm, closer to my elbow. It felt fine until I put the arm behind me (so if I stepped down the stairs with it on the bannister, putting a bra on, etc) - very painful. Was like a sharp twinge, but I’d get a red mark on the arm come up immediately and it would get hot.
I started icing it and taking ibuprofen, and had a massage booked a few days later and she’s a sports therapist so I was chatting to her about it. She said as ive got no weakness in that arm that she doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about, to ease off weights for about a week, but put some KT tape on it. It seemed to help, the twinges definitely lessened to nothing when putting a bra on for instance. After 5-6 days the tape started hurting, almost like a friction burn, so I took it off on Thursday. The skin was a bit tender for a couple of days but it started to ease.
during this time I’ve been doing walking workouts but no weights. Some of them have involved punching to the front or side, I’ve done these very gingerly, maybe 30% power as times gone on, not full extension. No pain doing them.
yesterday and today I’ve been experiencing what feels like a muscular pain in the arm. No twinges like before, it’s more like an overall muscle pain in that same area. I’m worried as it seemed to be getting better and now it isn’t!
i suppose im just curious if anyone’s experienced anything similar - i wasn’t lifting a heavy weight, i wasn’t doing anything ive not done before, im not new to using weights. Im considering booking a doctors appointment but am 90% sure they’ll tell me to rest it, ice it and take ibuprofen for a bit.
