I started strength training a couple of years ago, in a small coached group. Ive always been relatively strong in squat and bench press. Deadlift has never been great, but today I lifted 100 kg with relative ease. So chuffed!

That is something to be chuffed about!
I got to 96kg but it made my knees feel very vulnerable, so I changed what I did.

wow that’s amazing! Gosh I’d love to be anywhere near that weight… so far have got to 55kg but this gives me hope it’s possible 💪

That's awesome, well done! I have a similar story (but with a weak bench press ha ha) and I hit my 100kg deadlift at the end of last year. Such a great achievement! On to the next goal? 120kg maybe 😜

Coulddowithanap · 17/07/2025 11:53

That's fantastic. Well done.

That’s awesome! Well done. A 100kg deadlift is a very special moment.

Congratulations @PamShipman 💪

It's amazing that when you get a big jump in your 1RM it often goes up really easily. I lifted 100k yesterday (although not the first time) and my PT said "You made that look easy" which is high praise from him. But it really did feel like it flew up.

It's weird isn't it, when you grind & grind and grind at the lower weights, and then one day - magic!

This is amazing! 💪

How long has it taken you to build to that? I know you said you’ve been strength training a couple of years but when did you start specifically working towards that? Asking as it’s my new goal (I’m currently on about 65kg but for 6 - 8 reps, haven’t tried any heavier).

RayKray · 20/07/2025 12:56

I’m not the OP but it took me about a year from the absolute start to get to 100kg. Then I’ve put about another 30kg in a year, then 15kg the next year after that. But I’m a powerlifter so my training is totally focused around that 1RM.

I think I topped out at 60kg on deadlift when i first started training. I got up to 80 in my first year, and 95 after 18 months. I first attempted 100kg the week before Christmas! That 95 stuck fast until this week!

This is really useful thank you - it’s good to have a realistic plan as stuff like social media is full of people seemingly easily lifting loads (which of course it would be). Knowing it takes a while and is a long game is helpful 😁
