I’m really just boasting but I know you’ll all understand!

I don’t often post here but I always read. I’ve just turned 69 and have only been weight training for a year, literally never even tried anything till then. Saw myself on a security cam and was horrified that I was shuffling and saying ‘ooph’ when I got out of a chair. Started to work with a personal trainer 3 times a week. And today I deadlifted 110kg!

I love this so much. Congratulations. Utterly inspiring 🤩

So inspiring well done! I’d be boasting too. I’ve got to just above body weight deadlift and need to push on.

Wow! That’s amazing! I was impressed with myself for deadlifting 60kg and I’m in my 30s 😆

And me. That's been my PB for a year..

Disturbia81 · 26/06/2025 22:50

Well done, seriously ♥️♥️

Wow! I'll be honest, when i first read this I felt a bit sick! But now I think I'm inspired actually. I've just managed 55kg (age 42) and was really proud of that. This has made me feel like I can really keep going and set pretty high goals. Well done and thank you!

FlatErica · 28/06/2025 16:36

I love it, go you!!!

AllAboutTheWrinkles · 28/06/2025 18:23

Thank you so much everybody. I still can’t quite believe it. It’s made a big difference to my squats as well, partly down to confidence, and I suppose partly down to strength. They’ve come on a lot in the last month as well. My bench press is still a sad little lift but it’s a work in progress I guess. My big regret is that I left it so late to start as I realise I maybe had the potential to be properly good at it but that’s ok.

I’m coming to the conclusion we should be proud of EVERY lift because that’s what’s building strength and resilience. I started off with two 5kg dumbbells propped on plates because the bar was too heavy for me initially and found that incredibly hard. But that 10kg lift was as important as every other one that came after it in terms of progress.

Well done to the OP, hats off

CowCat · 28/06/2025 20:19

well done OP and all you other weight lifters. I managed 100kg this week (55 years old and 85 kilos).

That is truly impressive in such a short time. You must have really put in the work and consistency.

Which is what I need to get back to!
