Energy drink - caffeine and tourine

I had some really helpful responses to my last thread (supplements for teens) so I hoping someone can help me with my next question.

I am really struggling to find clear information about taurine and caffeine.
The info is there, but it's confusing - percentages, mg etc, and what are OK amounts to consume.

A can of 250ml drink says it has 0.03% caffeine and 0.4% taurine.

I'd rather my son (14) didn't touch energy drinks, but he does - I can't stop him going out and spending his own money (well I can, but I don't think that's the right approach). I want to give him sound information.

Can someone tell me what is an OK amount of caffeine for teenagers to consume? Obviously none would be ideal, but what's a safe amount, and what amount would cause harm?

And what about taurine?

Are there websites which are unbiased and clear?

I've no idea but i'd google it with 'barbell medicine' and see if they've written about it.

Something to be aware of, alongside protein and creatine being part of gym culture, pre workout is also a thing. That includes caffeine (and other stuff) usually and is to give a boost for a workout. I never take it, partly as i don't need to as the excitement of lifting is enough, and also it never sounds ideal to be having all that caffeine. And it can make people itchy. Just thought that might be useful info in case he mentions it and you're not sure what it is.

It’s the taurine I’d be more concerned about. Try searching for information on that and the effect on the brain for teenagers. If it’s a social thing with friends that’s a bit more difficult to stop/control. It’s hard to stop energy drinks, the headache is a killer I used rehydration caffeine dissolvable supplements to reduce slowly. I feel so much better now I was so restless, I was using them as a way of dealing with insomnia but I also miss the buzz of the drinksand I’m not a teenager!
