My thumb hurts after body pump classes - would some sort of support help?

I thought that the discomfort I feel in my right thumb after Body Pump would go after I had got more experienced, but it is the same every week. It is particularly linked to the parts of the class where you hold a plate in your hand with your thumb through the hole. My research says it is tendonitis. I looked for some sort of lightweight gloves or a support for my thumb on line today but there are so many out there and most have lots of good reviews and a fair few saying they are rubbish. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

Is there any other way to hold the plates so you don't have a thumb through the hole? Do they have dumbbells available to use instead for those tracks?

I think they do, but I'd never thought to ask! They must have them in the main gym, thanks for a very sensible suggestion.

Yes, I was going to say dumbbell too.

Have you considered trying a few PT sessions in the free weights bit instead? I did Pump years ago but found there isn't much progress because it's low weight high reps. I prefer the heavier lifting I do now.

Definitely use dumbbells instead of the plates. I can't hold weight plates with my thumb through the hole, can almost feel my thumb slowly dislocating. So I use dumbbells instead.
