Jroseforever · 31/10/2020 11:41

Looking to buy some dumbbells for my 11.5 year old for Christmas. They come in sets. Average height and a wiry build..

Do I go 1kg, 2kg and 3kg

Or 1.5kg, 3kg and 5kg

I don’t lift weights so no idea

Many thanks

I would get the 1.5-5. He will outgrow the lighter set very quickly.

Go heavier.

As in, go for the heavier set, not look for even heavier.

If he is serious about this and you feel like he will get good advice about his form, I would go heavier than what you have listed, my untrained 9 year old can squat a 16 kilo kettlebell.

For the lighter weights he can use cans and bottles/jugs of water which are free.

Yeah, the heavier set.

You need a lot heavier than that. The weights you've suggested won't do much at all.
