I'm starting out as a paranormal investigator

I've teamed up with someone , he has done investigations before and has some equipment.

We're going to an abandoned asylum. It will be my first attempt at this stuff . I'm open minded , but not scared .

If this goes ok we will collaborate and get more equipment to share .

He claims to be a medium . I'm going as the more scientific person - I don't believe or disbelieve. So I want to see for myself !

I'm really excited about this . Watch this space !

Ok
It's not to seek tickets or charge anything to anyone .

It's going to be a hobby . And yes I'm still alive .

I do have a day job . The idea of seeing for myself if investigators are all scammers or whether there is something out there is something I find fascinating.

I out this on the paranormal board because I understand many people do not believe in this kind of thing . I'm not sure I do . I want to see first hand by going with other investigators. I've found 2 willing to take me with them as a witness .

If I find something I will get some equipment . I will never ever be charging anyone any money !

Has he got a Great Dane and a van, and friends with groovy clothes?

manipulatrice · 25/02/2024 18:19

I do hope no one reports you for trespassing 🤷🏼‍♀️

Firstly, ignore the stupid comments! I bet you're really chuffed you posted on here, where people who have no belief or interest, seem to feel the need to comment, rather than just scroll on by! 🙄
Secondly, all I will say is, stay safe, make sure someone knows where you are, make sure you have a couple of good torches and most of all... Enjoy! Looking forward to hearing more! 👻

eandz13 · 25/02/2024 18:42

Well I'm excited for you OP! I'm a complete non-believer but the child in me still loves the idea of the paranormal, the not-yet-explained and generally being given the heeby jeebies! (Although the boring, science seeking logical part of me always ruins it for me after a short while! 🙄)

I'd love to do something like this. I've been
urban exploring a few times, haven't thought about paranormal exploring before!

As a serving police officer, don't you know better than going off alone with some random (with a website, though) round a derelict building? Your "self defence skills" won't mean much against a knife and a determined man, but self defence 101 is not deliberately putting yourself in to dodgy situations in the first place, especially as part of some antic attention seeking caper.

But you know that, or at least you should.

ETA also trespass.

damnedwhatever · 25/02/2024 23:03

Despite appearing it I'm not stupid .

I'm not going to put myself in harms way .

I'll be letting people
Know where I am , I'll have my phone , and if I feel remotely uncomfortable I'll be going home .

I'm amazed you can manage this @damnedwhatever with all your previously-stated illnesses, diseases and neurological conditions.

Please updated. I'm agog.

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/02/2024 23:52

How on earth does one even get access to a disused asylum?

I've ran paranormal nights for over 10 years. Most locations even abandoned require a fee. It's not as simple as turning up to a derelict building and hope to find a way in as that's illegal.
Hopefully OP has to money to pay to get in to these places and if taking others has public liability insurance.

Is this compatible with being a police officer?

Will you be making paranormal arrests??

Watchthedoormat · 25/02/2024 23:19

I'm intrigued by all things woo, OP.
Please let us know how it goes.

determinedtomakethiswork · 25/02/2024 23:27

You are going to an abandoned asylum with a man you have never met before? Are you completely insane?

ilovesooty · 25/02/2024 23:27

I'm going as a sceptic

Do you need a special costume for that?

AuntySueDoesntGiveAShit · 25/02/2024 23:36

I'll be letting people Know where I am , I'll have my phone , and if I feel remotely uncomfortable I'll be going home

I expect the majority of women who have been attacked by a man have all had a phone on them.

DarkSatanicWindows · 25/02/2024 23:59

Are you there yet?

What would you like to know ? Yes I've had latent tb, Lyme disease and now been diagnosed with MS.

Am I supposed to lay down and die ?

OP posts:
fatphalange · 26/02/2024 05:28

There's a mental health unit near me which is still in use. The older part of the building attracts con people running 'ghost tours' of 'the old lunatic asylum'. So fucking disrespectful.

The part that's still in use can house the people that want to become paranormal investigators

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 26/02/2024 07:06

Wow @damnedwhatever that was a very quick MS diagnosis!

manipulatrice · 26/02/2024 07:48

Please do take care OP.

I'm not sure PST training without any PPE will be much help, what would you front stack with after all?

Alwaystransforming · 26/02/2024 07:55

I am confused. Would this be trespassing. Who checks the buildings are stable?

And I am sorry, giving your years of posting about your illnesses and how they curtail your life and impact your day to day living, your self defence technicians going to mean jack shit against anyone.

I say that as someone who trains self defence. This is a ridiculous idea tbh.

i do have a friend who does these. Non of them would agree that it’s a good idea to do this with a man you don’t know.

Westfacing · 26/02/2024 08:00

I'm going as the more scientific person

What branch of science?

SoundTheSirens · 26/02/2024 10:29

DifferentAlgebra · 25/02/2024 12:36

The OP appears to be a policewoman too, which makes this whole thing even odder.

"Appears to be" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Hagbard · 26/02/2024 13:06

Hang on, you're a police officer? How come it's Ok for you to trespass? Or is it a case of one rule for law-keepers and one rule for everyone else?
