I've teamed up with someone , he has done investigations before and has some equipment.

We're going to an abandoned asylum. It will be my first attempt at this stuff . I'm open minded , but not scared .

If this goes ok we will collaborate and get more equipment to share .

He claims to be a medium . I'm going as the more scientific person - I don't believe or disbelieve. So I want to see for myself !

I'm really excited about this . Watch this space !

The OP appears to be a policewoman too, which makes this whole thing even odder.

MyLovelyPurse · 25/02/2024 12:37

If this is true it’s unwise and foolish. I find it hard to believe that ‘he’s got a website’ is reassuring, or proof of his trustworthiness.

I also find it really distasteful and odd that you choose to go to an ‘asylum’. Does that word sound somehow excitingly scary to you? It’s a psychiatric hospital where people sought sanctuary from their mental illnesses or were placed there by relatives who were at the end of their caring tether. Most families will have had some experience of this then, just as they do now. Mental illness is common and I am mystified as to why you associate it with the ‘paranormal’. People’s suffering and misery is not a cool backdrop for your immature adventures.

KissMyArt · 25/02/2024 12:50

It's a great hobby if you believe in that sort of thing but I hope you're not expecting to make money from it?

Most reputable paranormal groups don't break into disused buildings, they hire them and they cost a fortune.

The extortionate ticket prices barely see them breaking even.

I’m assuming the OP, her website stranger and his equipment are planning individual trespass to test for vibes, orbs, and cold spots, and other such Woo Phenomena, rather than operating some type of ghost tour for which they sell tickets!

JustMaggie · 25/02/2024 13:18

I hope OP comes back and lets us know she's still alive. I don't think this was a very wise decision!

cerisepanther73 · 25/02/2024 13:32

@damnedwhatever

I wouldn't 🤔 go on your own with thus complete stranger at all,

Find out established reputable panormal experinces with groups of people instead,

How do you know this isn't a ruse to get you on own for sinister dodgy nefarious reasons?

Have you researched who this man is such as his background ect,

Check up Facebook instragram LinkedIn ect social media

TheSlantedOwl · 25/02/2024 13:34

Come back and update us and let us know you’re ok @damnedwhatever !

Spirallingdownwards · 25/02/2024 13:38

So you have started a thread to announce you are setting up as a scammer of vulnerable people. And you intend to do it with someone else you haven't even met yet. Seems legit.

All the best, don't forget to have Sam and dean Winchester as backup

Its the energy from the spirits that's concentrates in those types of institutions I believe is partly why they are primary locations

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 25/02/2024 13:51

How very Scooby Doo.

Don't be ridiculous. Do not go alone with him to a deserted building.

This 🤦🏽‍♀️

What? This makes no sense. What spirits? Why would there be spirits in a psychiatric hospital? Just because low budget scary movies used to be set in those kind of buildings (before civilised people realised that people with mental illnesses are not freaks for our entertainment) that does not make them sites of paranormal activity. They are just hospitals. Are there spirits in maternity hospitals as well, or Orthopaedic hospitals? Eye clinics? What you have said is just silliness.

Come back and update us and let us know you’re ok @damnedwhatever !

The OP is posting on other threats as recently as today, so I am sure they are okay.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 25/02/2024 14:47

It’s ok, the OP is a police officer. I’m sure she’s safe 🙄.

Unless of course she’s at home in bed with her multiple illnesses.

I'm not sure I'd want to meet the ghost of eyeballs past down a dark corridor.

ginasevern · 25/02/2024 15:26

I agree with @MyLovelyPurse

It is distastful and distressing in the extreme that people seek cheap thrills in places of trauma and human suffering. It really is the modern version of the Elephant Man. Why not try Auschwitz next OP, that should be a really exciting and good for a giggle.

theduchessofspork · 25/02/2024 15:27

damnedwhatever · 21/02/2024 23:56

Some abandoned buildings are easily accessible.

If no one is harming anything I see no reason not to go .

And sometimes permission is sought beforehand in buildings or locations with a lot of reported activity- if you believe that sort of thing .

I am going as a sceptic .

OP scepticism involves some thought

You sound as daft as a brush on all fronts

Do not go to a disused building with some idiot bloke.

Puzzlefactor · 25/02/2024 15:27

Would it not be trespassing? Has your mate got permission to enter the building?

Puzzlefactor · 25/02/2024 15:27

Trespassing is a civil offence as long as you don't break anything to get in then its civil and not criminal under UK law

And yet here we are discussing paranormal on a mumsnet thread, I'm only going by the TV show supernatural with Sam and dean as my source of knowledge

Dartmoorcheffy · 25/02/2024 18:03

I worked at an old goods shed on the railway. We had a group.of ghost hunters come to stay and "Investigate "

It was quite hilarious and clearly a great money maker for the conmen organisers and oddly enough they contacted a spirit with enormous glee they announced that he told then he had worked on a railway line.....
