Found a ‘thing’ nobody knows what it is…

So this little steel rod, about 3cm long and 3 mm Ø, perforated at one end and attached to a split ring and with a little machined solid ‘funnel’ pokey thingy at the end of it just appeared…and I can’t explain it! I found it attached to a bunch of keys (mine), and it was definitely not there before. In fact I don’t remember having ever seen it before nor do I know its use. The keys have always been either at home, or in my bag at work, and don’t really think anyone could have taken them, attached the split ring with this thing, and replaced them in my bag without me noticing. Also WHY? Colleagues are not pranksters types anyway, and don’t see what would be funny about this… my husband and grown up kids all deny having anything to do with this, and they too have no idea of what this thing could be. A google image search has found a similar object that however is way bigger and slightly different in design, and not something I would use or need/possess anyway. Anybody here who could shed some light as to WHAT this is? Once I find out that, I might have a clue as to what it’s doing with my keys (and find out if I am having some ‘episode’ or amnesia I need treatment for!! 🤣🤣 thanks in advance to those who mighy be able to help!

Have you purchased a heavy duty padlock with a numerical code recently? Looks like a recoding tool to me.

@NotReallyAllHere

This. It's to change a combination lock code... I work in storage and all our combination locks come with one. I have one on my work keys just in case

It’s similar to a tool used to advance the date on a Longines automatic watch.
