Anyone ever witnessed something move on its own?!

Hi all,
So a friend has had a few goings on and things being knocked around or almost thrown in her house. Also, things going missing and reappearing! What can this be put down to, if spirits don’t exist?!
I think I’m a believer and am curious.

Has anyone else ever had anything move in front of them, in their home?

Things are forever throwing themselves around in my house. It mainly happens in the kitchen or the bedroom above it. It's happened so much that it's not a big thing anymore-- we just exchange glances and move forward.

In my gran's house, a box of Poppets flew off the kitchen table and hit my mother in the head. I also saw a bowl of nuts launch itself over the floor. In my own first house, I had left some pans to drain after I had washed them. I heard a clatter, and guessed that one had fallen on the floor - no big deal. When I went to look, I found that a pan had fallen, but it was over 15 feet from the sink. That really shook me up. I lived on my own, so there was nobody messing around.

Puntastic · 05/05/2021 21:24

Has she forgotten she's got a cat?

WhoWants2Know · 05/05/2021 21:38

Lol, it does sort of feel like an invisible cat is lurking and taking exception to random objects before whipping them across the room.

Puntastic · 05/05/2021 21:41

We were discussing my DD's new imaginary friend (who himself freaks me out but that's another thing) and a helium balloon that was static on the ceiling suddenly moved in a straight line halfway across the room.

I was quite 😮 until DH pointed out that the ceiling fan was on. 😂

SoMuchForSummerLove · 05/05/2021 21:44

Yes, I was sitting on the floor of my holiday apartment when six CDs flew across the floor, one by one, and landed at my feet.

I was so scared I couldn't breathe, such a relief that I was leaving the next morning!

Didydani · 05/05/2021 21:48

Yep. I've only lived in this property for about three years now but I'm sure I saw a book of mine (which was standing up at the time) fall down off the dresser. Dont know how because its a thick book and there were no windows open, no one else in the house and it wasn't near the edge.

There is one rational explanation I can think of though. I've been on and off AD's so i could have hallucinated it..? 🤷‍♀️ I cant really say i believe in ghosts but on the other hand, i also dont dismiss people that believe in them either. Some of these stories on this thread do make me wonder though, i have to admit!

I was sunbathing in my back garden and glanced at my neighbour's bedroom window. A I looked, A Paddington Bear money box moved slowly along the windowsill. Found out later that her young son had woken up in his cot and was pushing Pad!

Roonerspismed · 05/05/2021 21:56

Now I won’t sleep. Some of these are very odd

My exH house (I'm convinced) is haunted. I've lost count of the weird things thag happened over the years, real spoony stuff. When I go there to drop the DC off, I sometimes stay for a cuppa. The kettle has turned itself on several times now! A spoon launched itself across the kitchen once, and various things have 'fallen' off shelves. My exH and I just flip a glance at each other and don't even break from the conversation as we lived with utter spooky unexplained madness for so long, whilst my teen DD utterly freaks out. She doesn't get how we stay so calm!

BonesJones · 05/05/2021 22:10

Spooky, not spoony 😂

Craftycorvid · 05/05/2021 22:32

This happened a long time ago but we still have no explanation for it. In our kitchen, we have a wooden rack of cast iron pans; it hangs on the wall above a shelf with recipe books and various other things, below that there’s the worktop. One night as were in bed and I was asleep, DH thought he heard a bang but wasn’t sure whether it was inside or outside the house. The next morning he came downstairs to find the rack of pans on the kitchen floor, pans still in a row on their hooks, just the nails that had held them in place pulled out of the wall. The books on the shelf were all in place and undisturbed, just the edge of the worktop was chipped. It could only be that the whole rack flew off the wall horizontally and landed in one piece, but how? DH thinks some sort of ball lightning phenomenon. 🤷‍♀️

Puntastic · 06/05/2021 05:09

The randomly falling stuff is easily explained- over time vibrations in your home (washing machines, doors opening and shutting, walking across the floor) can move an object very very slowly. Eventually its centre of gravity shifts and it falls.

Tweacle · 06/05/2021 11:15

My boys had a robot wars robot. Used to whizz about at night. Took the batteries out. Still whizzed across the landing. Straight to the tip.

Craftycorvid · 06/05/2021 13:07

No washing machines or anything else on at the time puntastic and if things had indeed worked loose, I’d expect the rack to slide down the wall before dropping and that would have trashed everything on the shelf as it went.

Another weird one: I was sitting with my mum talking about my late dad and the kitchen clock just flipped off the wall. It gave us a start but at first we just thought the string holding it had worked loose - nope, the string was fine, no fraying, and the clock hung on a picture hook so it would have to be lifted then flipped in order to fall. The string wouldn’t be able to work partially loose from the hook either.

Many years ago I used to work at Harrods and it was fairly well known the book department at the time was eerie, on one occasion whilst I was in the CCTV control room we saw several books fly off one of the shelves. This was years ago over 20 years ago.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 07/05/2021 14:23

I heard voices muttering to me in the night, I also heard loud knocking from the loft and saw shadowy figures in my bedroom. I called in a medium but he couldn't find anything.
This went on for some time until eventually I went to see my GP and it turned out I was having hallucinations due to stress. Since I started taking medication the noises have stopped.

starfishmummy · 07/05/2021 14:32

I have a small row of wade ornaments from my childhood. Big Ears moves on a regular basis. I have never actually seen it happen though. It happens wherever "he" is in the row, but none of the others move even if put in "his" position. I suspect he has a wonky base and it's vibrations

suckingonchillidogs · 07/05/2021 15:12

I was watching the news one night with a cocktail in a big martini glass next to me on a table. At the exact point they showed someone chucking an egg at Anne Widdecombe the glass sort of exploded leaving just the stem standing! Weird but probably just a crack in the glass or something.

Aprilshowersandhail · 07/05/2021 15:27

We have a family ghost...we'll known and accepted .
But a moving item story involves a friend's previous house.. A new build strangely.. But once went upstairs when she was showing me around and we heard a noise. Opened her dd's nursery and her nursing chair was moving on it's rockers.. We never spoke of it after that day!

Evenstar · 07/05/2021 15:28

As a teenager I had heard of people moving stuff with the power of their mind, we lived in a very dated 1930’s house that had only had one occupant from new. I often felt that there was someone in the house even when I was there alone.

One night I was looking at the curtain pelmet in my bedroom and there was a piggy bank on it full of coppers, for some reason I thought I wonder if I could make that move. As I thought it, the front legs of the piggy bank lifted up slowly and then dropped abruptly as though someone had let go of it. It thumped down on the wood and the coins jingled. I can’t explain it, I was sitting still so no vibration in the room we weren’t near a road or train track, and the movement was as though it was intentional.

ImAncient · 08/05/2021 23:00

I’m not going to sleep tonight!

scryingeyes · 09/05/2021 18:23

Great thread!

My experience wasn't seeing exactly but hearing. We were in the kitchen and we could clearly hear the big old fashioned whiskey bottle of coppers being rattled backwards forwards three times in the next room (no door.)
Very soon after, as I was counting the cash, the bottle rolled of the table and smashed, but that was understandable.

Love these stories!

One year I lived in a student room in a complex of old buildings. A pencil on top of the chest of drawers lifted up, hovered, and flung itself outwards into the room. Movement caught my eye in the mirror; a clothes hanger detached itself from the metal rail and flung itself similarly. I opened a cupboard and a small bottle of aspirin hovered as if stuck to the inside of the cupboard door. It wasn't sticky. My mother saw this too. It was a strange room and I also had a recurrent dream there set in the Middle Ages. Later I found out something confirming details.
