Time for another spooky stories thread?

Hotpatootietimewarp · 26/09/2015 13:51

I know how much I enjoyed reading previous scary story threads so thought I'd start another and start with my own.

Now I always thought I had imagined this but after meeting up with my sister last week and getting on to this found out she remembers this too.

We both had a friend in the village who lived in a long house with an old barn out back, looked fairly normal had a ladder in the middle which took you up to the top level and the roof had a roof light window in it. Anyway this friend told us it was haunted and we thought she was having us on until she knocked on the door and an almighty bang answered, this kept happening. Then once it had stopped stuff started flying out of the roof window! Old sacks and old stove kettles etc! We were so scared but went in and no one was in there just totally empty. We then went in the house and said to friends mum and she said it must have been her dad but her dad was in the living room!

Needless to say I've never forgotten this and my sister obviously hasn't either.

So now I've started anyone else want to add any??

I used to look after a lady who lived in a big house at the end of a long lane by herself and used to hate going there as the house was eerie and I thought someone could easily grab me getting into my car in the middle of nowhere in a long lane late at night!

A couple more from my mother who is the biggest unbeliever in the world and choses to dismiss these stories

One drive she was the front passenger and her friend was driving. My mum was looking clearly at the road ahead and said "Mind the horserider", her friend said "What rider?" my mum turned to look at her friend, turned back to point and say "that horse rider" and the words died in the air....there was no horse rider.

The second one I think I've shared on another spooky thread but I can't remember getting old. My dads counsin was over from Sweden, back in the late 70's. He wanted a classic English Cream Tea, so they went into a little English style Tea Room somewhere quaint I need to ask her where. A waitress approached them, my mum said she was wearing a classic black and white maids uniform but cannot remember much about her other than that. I have quizzed her for details for years and asked her to repeat this story 100 times. They waited a while and started to wonder where there tea was. Eventually they went to the back and opened the door to the kitchen. Inside was an old man, they apologised and said they had ordered two cream teas. The old man asked who they ordered to and they said "Your waitress"...."I don't have a waitress" he said and got them their cream teas!

My Nan, who was psychic, had a lot of spooky experiences but a couple stick in my mind.

My Grandparents never went abroad on holiday, instead they used to travel around the UK in the caravan or, on occasion, stay in B&Bs. This one year they went to Cornwall and stayed in what had been an old airfield during the war. It had been converted to a holiday park.

She woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of an air raid siren and she could see the outline of a shoulder standing at their window looking out onto what would have been the airfield. She got out of bed and went to the window standing next to the soldier. He didn't look at her but was watching out of the window and she saw searchlights and the rest of the camp was gone and it was an empty airfield. It was like she'd gone back in time...

Another one was just after WW2 and she used to be part of a bike-riding club. There were about 12 of them who went on a trip to Scotland. They were riding up a really steep hill and in the distance my Nan could see a castle. The sun was shining on it and it looked lovely. They then rode past a clump of tall trees. Once past the trees my Nan looked towards the castle and it was gone. She didn't mention it to anyone else until they were all having dinner that evening in a pub. A number of the other riders (although not all) had seen it too!! Very odd...

One final one. The first time my Nan came to visit us when we moved down to the South-West, she said that there was something in the house and she didn't like it. I was still a child and loved our house but all of us just had a feeling that we weren't alone. Mum and Dad still live there now.

Anyway, one Xmas my Grandparents had come to stay and I remember vividly that it was Xmas day. Back in those days you had Xmas dinner at lunchtime, watched the Queen's Speech and then had a nice cold meat buffet tea. Afterwards we would very often play board games. This particular year my Dad and Grandad were watching TV in the lounge so all us ladies (Mums and daughters Smile) decided to play a board game in the kitchen. I can't remember what it was but I remember it was a long game. Half way through my Mum got up to make a cup of tea, I went to the loo, my Nan went to get some biscuits from the posh M&S tin in the lounge and my Sister was helping my Mum.

After about 10 minutes we all went back to the table to carry on with the game (bearing in mind my Mum and Sister hadn't left the room) and the whole game had been packed away, box lid on, everything cleared. None of us had done it.

There were loads of different happenings in that house, although over the last few years it has all stopped. Nothing was ever scary though, it was all really harmless. I still love that house and my siblings and I (there are 5 of us altogether but when the above happened it was just my elder sister and I) have vowed that when Mum and Dad die or decide to move out of the house, we will do whatever we can to buy it between us, maybe even rent it out but definitely keep it in the family.

tomatodizzy · 29/09/2015 14:34

apologies for the spelling errors....funnily enough I got very little sleep last night.

Hotpatootietimewarp · 29/09/2015 14:55

Oo I've just remembered another I often think of that is like a time slip, not sure if this one was debunked too.

Poster had got off a train in a London station to meet boyfriend but boyfriend wasn't there and as she was stood waiting a couple approached her thinking she looked upset and offered to take her for a coffee and took her to a little old fashioned cafe with all the old gold fittings and and waitresses in old fashioned outfits. When she did get to her boyfriend she was telling him about it and he didn't I will what she was talking about and when she went to show him it wasn't there

I was at my cousins birthday party, everyone was sliding down the bannisters. Finally it was my turn,i didnt slide on my bum decided to go down like an aeroplane.Straight across the bannisters i went,i was pushed. It wasnt the other kids as most were all playing in the garden. There was a handful in the hall I fell towards the halldoor rather than the kitchen door.It was awkward the way i fell but i remember being pushed.

But that house had a horrible feeling, somebody died there in teh parlour, they didnt like children.

Couple of other things happened in that house.
My aunt went out for 10 minutes one day[that turned into hours]left us on our own.Being the brave souls we were,we went to the loo together.Looked out and there was the doll outside the door. The same doll was only sitting on top of the wardrobe a few moments earlier. We waited until her mam came home, looked out and the doll was back on the wardrobe.

Cerseirys · 29/09/2015 15:10

I liked the story on here about the photographer (or was it interior decorator?) and their assistant who went to photograph or decorate somebody’s old house. In a glass cabinet in one of the rooms was a very creepy looking doll, so the photographer/decorator turned it around so that they could get on with their work without being distracted. An hour or so later the assistant said that they should GTFO of there as the doll was facing them again!

dustarr73 · 29/09/2015 15:23

Another one from me.When i was a child i never slept well.I was in teh front of the house. Many times i would wake up and see people walking in the green in front of the house.Ladies and Gents in old fashioned type costumes.I was never afraid.
I used to also get somebody sitting on my bed but i was the only one in the room. They actually got in to the bed one night and i was pushed against the wall,i felt the bed go down. But there was no one there.

Thank you so much to everyone who has posted!

My grandma was extremely woo and used to see all sorts of stuff, prditc stuff etc.

She swore until the day she died that she had seen fairies in the woods near to were she lived.

She was always finding 'old money' strewn all over the carpets when she left the house and came back inside, this was in the 1980's when sterling was well and truly established.

She would pick up a towel on the rail to find it soaking wet. She was always seeing her dead father in the living room window when she returned home.

I reckon I've got a bit of 'woo' too, I often just know things are going to happen before they do. When I was younger stuff used to go missing a lot in
the house we used to live in : I would say in a loud voice 'Stop it now, that's enough, give it back!' and two seconds later it would be on the bed/floor wherever I had just been looking.

I was once walking home from school on a long stretch of walled road, as in there was a wall running the entire length of the road. Little old man coming towards me with a dog. I nodded to him, then turned around. He had disappeared. Absolutely nowhere for him to go.

The house the ex use to live in was very old, 1730's or something. Every time I'd walk in there would be the strong smell of flowers, then suddenly it would disappear. Had a nice feeling though, friendly.

MyNameIsRonnieFuckingPickering · 29/09/2015 17:30

Cerseirys I CANNOT believe your grandmother didn't open the envelope!

tomatodizzy · 29/09/2015 18:51

Oh wow that doll is freaky. Has anyone seen the weeping crash test dummies in the London science museum? They give me the total creeps. I was there with my children, a friend and her children. The museum was really quiet (winter inset day). We both got cold shivers when we looked at the dummies. Especially as they "bleed" red liquid and the big one looks like it's crying. My friend said really old fashioned crash test dummies for aeroplane crashes used cadavers! Not sure if it's true, but we walked away and could feel their eyes on our backs.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 29/09/2015 19:04

OP that one's on the Digital Spy thread! By DollFeet if anyone cares to search Grin

I haven't anything to add, I don't believe at all but find these stories very entertaining! I think all of them can be explained with something rational.

MissMarpleCat · 29/09/2015 19:48

When I worked in a nursing home the lower level used to creep us all out, when I worked nights we would only go to that level in pairs. One day I was on that level alone hoovering the hall, had that horrible feeling I was not alone, told myself to stop being daft. The Hoover cut out and when I checked the plug it had been removed from the socket. I ran as fast as I could, I never went down there on my own again.

Hotpatootietimewarp · 29/09/2015 21:13

Yep that doll is awful!

Miss marple - don't say that I work in a community hospital that was used in war time and then went on to be a maternity unit and is now a rehab facility. Anyway not long after I started some of the nurses talked about how on night shifts they'd see figures go into the office thinking it was a patient but then there was no one there.

And there is a mirror at the top of the corridor as you turn the corner and another nurse says she and colleague were stood chatting one night and in the mirror out of the corner of her eye was the reflection of a sinister looking little boy! I was tempted to leave and never go back there and then and I've yet to do a night shift!

Loved reading all these! Also someone dragged over from Facebook.

When DP was about 4/5 years old he would often talk to an elderly lady in his room. My future MIL has also told me she would hear him talking to someone. When she would go and check on him she would see the sheets on the bed had been crumpled like someone had been sat there and his room smelled like perfume. She asked who he was talking to and he would simply answer "the lady." Fast forward a few years and my DP (now aged 7/8) and his parents moved into my future FIL childhood house (after his brother moved out) and there was a picture on the wall. My DP pointed to the picture and stated to his DM that the lady in the picture was the lady who would come to visit him.

The lady in the photograph was future FIL mother who had passed years before DP was born.

Fakebook · 29/09/2015 21:48

My dh has had loads of strange things happen to him. He was born in and grew up in a Middle Eastern country where they believe in Jinns, which are supposed to be like another form of being.

One evening he was walking back along a small river/stream from a day of playing with his friends during the holidays. He was about 17. As he was walking he saw a very pretty woman in red clothes standing on the other side of the river looking quite worried. She called to him and dh stopped and asked her what was wrong. She didn't say much, and only that she needed to get to his side and put her hand forward so he could help her cross the water. Dh says he took a step forward and just happened to glance down at her feet as she reached forward. They were back to front. My dh says his whole body froze and he fell back out of fear and scrambled away. As he got up to run he looked back and the woman's hair was hanging loose up to her feet and her face had changed to something so terrifying he can't explain. He always says it was something horrible, evil and not of this world. As he ran he says she called out to him "you saved yourself this time, next time you won't be lucky".... That always gives me chills.

Fakebook that made me shiver!

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 29/09/2015 22:39

It must have been a tiny stream rather than a river, surely, if he could have helped her across by holding his hand out??

No real woo stories from me. But I'm very good at scaring myself for no real reason. The last few nights out of nowhere I have been absolutely convinced beyond belief that there's something in the mattress, something dark and malevolent and shapeless, hovering in place and just ready to rise and consume/stab me to death as I lie down and relax.

I also woke up a week ago and was frozen staring at a dark figure in the corner of the room which was just swaying. Light on and nothing there.

I hope think our brains are just mean sometimes Grin

There was a new " woo" thread I wanted to post to, but alas I can't find it.

My friend is on holiday and has asked me to feed her cat. As she lives about a five minute walk from her house it is hardly an inconvenience, plus, she always buys me something nice back as a thank you present.

I pick up DC from swimming club and stop off at friends house to feed said cat.

We're in the sitting room and I see a sort of " shape" float across the room. I'm tired and think my eyes are playing tricks on me and I said in a joking kind of way " oh 'ello you". Not in the least bit spooked.

Fed the cat and DC played with her. Litter tray in kitchen and I see there are some poos that need scooping out. The scoop is in the adjoining room; a " wet room" that is used purely for storage as there is a proper bathroom upstairs ( previous tenant disabled). I scooped up the poop and flushed it down the toilet.

The " wet room " is approx. 2 metres long and wide. I traversed the diagonal path to the loo which is at the top left hand corner of the room. ~There are no obstacles, DC laughing at how funny it is to put cat shit down the bog.

I go to turn the light off but I hear what sounds like rain...

The shower is on! I hadn't gone anywhere near it ,and directly underneath is a full sack of cat litter. I investigate further and find the contents of the sack still dry.

I turn off the shower; it has an on/off button.

I swear ( as does dc) that I had not at any time been anywhere near the shower or anything that could have triggered it to turn on. I do recall that my friends chap had said he thought the place was haunted and my Mom has said she remembers this too.

Do electric showers turn on by themselves?

This happened at 8.40 tonight

DontTellThePrincessBride · 29/09/2015 23:05

I hope think our brains are just mean sometimes

I have this really strange and completely irrational fear based around our brains being mean. And I'm going to share it here because sharing is caring ;)

My irrational fear is that one night, in the wee small hours, when I wake up to go to the loo I will stumble along the landing in the dark. I will reach the bathroom door. I will stretch out a hand and turn the handle. I will push open the door and there, in the moonlight, sitting on the toilet will be a clown-monster. Just sitting, waiting for me.

I even mentally criteria he as I open the door each night.

And now you can all have this fear too! Happy peeing :o
