I’d love to share my news.
Today, at the age of 53, I’ve bought my first horse.
He’s a lovely grey 14.2 Connemara who has the kindest eyes, makes me feel safe and happy and is a brilliant all rounder.
I’m sitting in disbelief and a feeling of overwhelming happiness.

I’ve ridden all my life on and off but somehow having my own horse was never a reality.
I returned to riding more seriously in the past 4 years.
I’ve tried different riding schools, horses and instructors, some with more success than others.
I’ve been lurking on the Tack Room for ages and I can really relate to most of the issues facing adults returning to riding.

I’ve been so incredibly lucky in finding the most fantastic stables and people who have changed my life in a way I never thought possible.
I don’t have many people in my life who ‘get it’ so I thought I’d take the plunge and share my fantastic news with the lovely folk here.
Today marks the start of a whole new chapter with my beautiful Connemara.

Congratulations!
Nothing more exciting than bringing home a new pony to love and pamper.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/06/2023 22:31

Lucky you. Congratulations.

I hope you will have years of fun.

Oh and all that horse shopping.

maxelly · 28/06/2023 22:32

Congratulations! Connies are the best (biased!). Wishing you many happy years together

Groutyonehereagain · 28/06/2023 22:32

Congratulations!! My dad bought a horse at 54 and he was his absolute darling. What have you called yours?

Eyesopenwideawake · 28/06/2023 22:33

Well done you! We need pictures 😄

idsisatwat · 28/06/2023 22:35

Congratulations!!!
I bought my first horse last year at the age of 51. Its just the best feeling in the world- not being stuck to lesson times etc. Just taking her out on a hack.

And yes, the shopping is fab too 😀

Fallowandbar · 28/06/2023 22:37

Well done! a good connie is worth it's weight in gold! That's so exciting!

Now you should go check out the horse and hound forums- lots of very knowledgeable people there and they love a new horse thread!

Congratulations! How exciting to finally be able to go and do whatever you want on your own pony!

FinallygotmyPony · 28/06/2023 22:43

Thank you so much for replying.
I can’t believe any of it!
I’ll need to figure out how to post pictures.
He’s called Paddy!
I’ve always loved Connie’s and he’s perfect for this stage of my life.

Horse shopping was exciting and a real roller coaster.
It’s funny how you know almost instantly who is right for you and who definitely isn’t.
I’ve been so lucky in having people I trust completely to help me.

So excited for building our relationship and having lots of fun.

Congratulations! I bought mine at 54, best thing ever!

FinallygotmyPony · 28/06/2023 22:48

Thanks so very much for all your lovely messages.
I feel like I’m 14 again!

I’ve worked hard on my fitness, Reformer Pilates has been a game changer - would highly recommend.
I found my core again.
I’ve loved my dressage lessons and jumping again but, honestly I can’t wait take him to the beach.

I'm so happy for you! I've wanted my own horse since I was little, gives me hope that I might still get there one day

shockthemonkey · 28/06/2023 22:56

Fantastic news OP. You’ll be on cloud 9.5 and long May you stay there. My first love was a Connie thoroughbred cross if you can picture that! But the pure Connie is extra special 😍

FinallygotmyPony · 28/06/2023 23:08

I’ve wished for a pony since I was 5 but never believed it would happen.
My DC have all left home now and it’s a new stage of life for me so I thought what would make me happy?!

I recognise that I’m so incredibly fortunate to be able to do this and it’s funny how all the riding school ponies of yesteryear are coming back to me now.
Here’s to all the Shetland ponies, the hairy Cobs and special horses ( Blaze, Breeze, Seamus, and Dandy) who made my life so much better.

So pleased for you, hope you have years of fun together!

Groutyonehereagain · 29/06/2023 00:12

Ponies and horses who have been in my life include Solo, Sky Rocket, Bugle, Sunset, Lady, Thistle, Casey, Tara, Magic. I loved them all. 😍

pukekos · 29/06/2023 05:49

How exciting! I just bought my first pony too at the age of 41. Mine is an Arab x QH chestnut gelding and I’m spending far too much money shopping for him…

twistyizzy · 29/06/2023 07:23

I'm so happy for you, just remember this feeling when you are knee deep in mud in the middle of a blizzard in the pitch black in December 🤣😅
Connies are a fantastic breed and perfect for adults so I wish you many years of fun!
Just remember money is always best spent on preventative health care eg regular physio/saddle fitting + a good farrier/dentist rather than ££ on matchy match stuff!

NotTodayJose · 29/06/2023 07:38

Ahh this is such a lovely post :) I remember when I first got my girl after years and years without my own, and I just kept staring at pictures of her not believing she was mine :) Here's to many happy years for you and Paddy! X

Pleasedontdothat · 29/06/2023 07:46

Here’s my daughter’s Paddy saying hello to yours! Posting photos is easy especially on your phone 😊
