Join up of sorts she was in he huge paddock, but I just kept shooing her along, keeping eye contact, until she gave in. She is a bundle of dreadlocks, and I'm not convinced that she doesn't have a louse or two. Her feet are really long, but she won't let me tOuch anywhere other than her back neck and rump. When I touched her leg she lashed out and nearly got me! She is quite handy with her feet!
Tomorrow, I'm going to fence in a the area outside my stables, and I'll have a smaller join up pen then. I'm determined she WILL be caught again! Grin

We had another join up session today. She doesn't so much join as get fed up Of charging about and just give in! But it works, so there's not more I can ask for. She let me get my hand down as far as her knee, and I gave her a good brush and she only tried to kick me once!
The next installment in the saga involves a large dose of delouser! I managed a good look at her, and she has more than a few passengers! Shock

Ha ha! Yes,I tried the 'keeping them moving' tactic with dpony on the one and only time she wouldn't be caught.She got very very cross about it but has never evaded me since.

I'm quite impressed today. I went over after work to check the beasties, and she came straight over and said hello. I was able to scratch her neck and back, and she didn't even pull faces! Grin
I've got some stuff called Switch from the vet for the crawlies, it's actually for sweet itch, but has permethrine in it so will kill the blighters! it cost £36!!!

get one of those long feather dusters and use that to touch her back legs and feet with.

Use a pressure and release technique, you are at her head, holding lead rope in small enclosed area, put the duster on her back and keep it there til she stops moving, then move it to release the pressure when she stands still., repeat, repeat , repeat.. and being to work like this over her body and legs so she gets used to it, to standing still... and you are safe.

Similar to Eve's suggestion,the IH lady who came out to me spotted a stick with a fork on the top and asked if she could have it to do the same thing.Some people tie an inflated rubber glove to the end too.

Thanks for you suggestions. Smile thankfully, things have taken a turn for the better. Every time I catch her up, I push the boundaries a little more, keeping up the 'come on now, pull yourself together' brusque but cheerful string of chatter, and if she rears up Or lashes out, I give her a hard stare and stamp my foot. She is quite bemused that I can 'talk horse'! Grin
We deloused and wormed her her on Saturday, and the change is definite.
She took a bit of catching, which is understandable after the wormer, but she is FAR less sensitive about being touched. She didn't kick out at all, and I managed to lift all four of her feet. albeit briefly I loosely tied her to the fence whilst I pottered about with Alfie, and she stood beautifully.
Her belly is still very dreadlocky, but I'm hoping that they will drop off as she moults.
The funniest thing about her is she is incredibly one sided. She is happy with you on her left, but gets rather confused when you are on her right. I try and keep everything even, and when I lead them out, she was on the left Alfie on the right. Her little face was a picture of confusion! Grin
I've heard that the two sides of a horses brain aren't connected, it definitely is true for her!

Ooh, snap! Can you catch her now? Ours is was born a Milliey. Majic Milliey to be exact. We already have a Molly, and every pony I own has a name ending in Ie or Y, so we changed it. She is now Magic Skye.

Mine is Lilac Skye and is Blue/dark grey and white (very pretty) and was already called that when I bought her.

Long story, but took her on when a friend had bought her, couldn't manage her and the original owner wouldn't have her back......

She is 6, had been "professionally broken" Hmm more like profesionally f**ked up, and am certain she has been knocked about a bit... she was scared of her own shadow (and the shetland Grin, and very. very head shy of ropes,whips etc and is more like a 4 year old really.

Catching has been good - then bad - then good again with no rhyme or reason really...... just have to be really consistent with praise and reward her if she does do what i want.

Have also started doing join up, but really need a smaller area to do it in.....

She is going to be a lovely horse in the end, I just need the patience... and the will power to keep up with it all and give her time to get to trust me .... i have had her just over a year now, and keep going one step forward and two steps back.

Have also thought about putting her in foal, and just giving her time to chill, but not sure what I would put on her... Confused

You'll get there with her. It all takes time. I think you just need to be consistent.

hmm..... that's my problem,not keen on adding more tb (but at the same time don't know what else to do!)..... she is 16hh, 7/8 ID and 1/8 tb......would love to fine her out a bit, but at the same time make her more quiet/easier....

Yeah think she will make a nice horse in the end Smile

A bit of Arab perhaps? Or some welsh? Not sure either would end up quiet, but would probably be quite pretty!
