You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

rule Solidarity. I have a similar situation re drink and probably depressed. He hasn't been out for a walk all week and it is really showing. Doesn't sound quite as far towards "bottom" as yours but it's tough going being the 'coper' in the relationship. He's started to hide online drinks orders which is a slight concern.

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/05/2021 22:29

rule and herc I don’t have anything useful to say but sorry that sounds tough... hope the weather improves and things improve soon.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/05/2021 22:39

I think working from home the whole time is not good for many people!

Weather app here is looking better from Wednesday. Thank god.

Hey - I had a pudding today while out for dinner, first one since January. It was nice, but urgh, the feeling in my mouth afterwards was gross. I think I might have weaned myself off icecream.

motherrunner · 24/05/2021 05:50

One more week ...

Just 200 Jekyll and Hyde exams (Yr 10 exams this week and we mark a section each), Yr 13 exams and Yr 11 language exams to get through before Friday and then I can use next week to catch up with KS3 who have been ignored for half a term!

eitak22 · 24/05/2021 06:20

Rule my DH is similar and has struggled with working from home more than he thought he would and like me has a history of MH struggles. It so hard when they won't see a Dr.

I had a horrendous migraine last night and still have the 'hangover feeling despite going to bed at 8. Doesn't help that we've got drop ins for LSAs coming up so I'm stressed about that.

MrsHamlet · 24/05/2021 06:43

I can't believe schools are still doing scrutiny etc. We've also had a month off marking anything other than y11/13 with no expectation of "catching up" later. Parents were just told we're not doing it!

HarrietDVane · 24/05/2021 07:04

Ugh. How is it Monday again already?

Hope you all have good days.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2021 08:25

Jealous of your marking policy MrsH. I’ve got two sets of year 7 essays to mark by Wednesday. Well, attempts at essays. I’m procrastinating.

Yes Monday AGAIN Harriet. Groundhog Day.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2021 08:32

We have no formal support with these TAGs. I suppose there is a vague understanding that it is OK not to mark other stuff but I don't feel that is right for A Level really.

SLT tell us they have cancelled meetings to give us time - but generally those are meetings that save them a job with agendas , planning , chairing and attending!

They have still got this idea, basically, that we all need to make up for all the time we gained last year drinking gin in our gardens.

Mistressinthetulips · 24/05/2021 09:30

A local holiday here today. I'll take that Smile
Have marked till my fingers hurt this weekend, doing nothing today!

Prof Viner in R4 this morning re schools. Apparently it’s all fine.

The interviewer mentioned that some schools data had been removed from the PHE report re IV on Saturday but he didn’t address that, and she didn’t press him at all!

noblegiraffe · 24/05/2021 12:40

Prof Viner said that it was important that social distancing remained in place in schools. Who wants to tell him?

R4 also had a professor on saying that TAGs would be fine because teachers were keen to get it right and that exam boards would moderate everything so it will be fine. And also that no one is getting uni offers this year because of all the people who deferred last year with their inflated grades.

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/05/2021 15:46

Waiting to see how the “Live lesson - so naughty!” thread goes....

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2021 16:14

Several cases in my school now : some linked to original year 11 case and one not.

Daily cases at DS's school who regularly has 2/3 of his classes missing.

Several cases at DH's school, messing up their TAG assessments.

Nothing to see here.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2021 16:14

Tjread?

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2021 16:15

ooops!

Thread? What one?

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/05/2021 16:44

Have read today about two secondaries closing til after half term due to cases in various years (Lytham St Anne’s and one in Scotland I think).

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/05/2021 16:54

Lancs public health bod trying to argue it’s not schools that are the problem....

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2021 17:06

I am broken. Just left school after spending 2 hours clearing cupboards and lugging and boxing sets of textbooks from the 20th century onwards. Building works and tight deadline for clearing anything we don't want to be binned.

We technically have two males in our department but they're never around when it comes to any work. They are SLT obviously.

MrsHamlet · 24/05/2021 17:08

I needed a meeting with my line manager today to approve something that actually doesn't need approval. I was free until 2pm as was she. But she kept getting called away. Sigh

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2021 17:09

Ah yes, I see the 'they mix less when they are in school' argument there. My DS meets no one out of school and regularly about 30 -40 in school. Younger pupils it will be more. Plus transport. Do they think they all go to giant raves when not in school??

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/05/2021 17:15

I know piggy.

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/05/2021 17:19

honey, poor you!! No site staff to help? Ours are pretty good (altho I did hear a horrendous anecdote from someone about an English stock cupboard and mis-communication over a move leading to someone from Site literally throwing 100s of texts into big boxes....) I’m glad I know that you mean textbooks about C20th History rather than that they took you the whole of last century to lug...... Grin

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/05/2021 17:22

Yes piggy yours must be the outlier as all other teenagers are out partying with absolutely anyone when they aren't in school. Hmm Of course, I don't know any teenagers who are out mixing with everyone. All the teenagers I know are moving with one group of friends, plus everyone they are forced to mix with at school. When they weren't at school they were just mixing with the one group of friends, not everyone they're forced to sit next to at school. Dd2 (not a teenager) only ever mixes with 2 friends in holidays/lockdowns. At school she's in a "bubble" of 87 kids, and is forced into relatively close contact with at least 26 of them every day.
