You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Clearly so much peer pressure around masks wearing...Taught one year 8 class today which was 90% masked up and a second one where no-one wore a mask!

TheHoneyBadger · 17/05/2021 18:14

Thanks. Only two weeks to go then it's half term.

I suspect we will have more to deal with next autumn but I can't face thinking about it yet. As far as I'm aware my school is still planning on abandoning zones after half term so we may get half a term of sort of 'normal'.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/05/2021 18:18

Look after yourself honey - especially as a single parent, there’s no one else to tell you!

piggy, I actually meant to type Beds not just Bedford.

noblegiraffe · 17/05/2021 18:18

Wagwan pussy whores!

Is this

  1. an informal greeting acceptable on entry to a classroom

  2. a day in isolation?

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/05/2021 18:19

Er I thought you were bursting into the Staffroom demanding attention because you’ve been absent for a couple of days noble!

noblegiraffe · 17/05/2021 18:21

Maybe a bit of that, Jan Grin

BigBobBoots · 17/05/2021 18:28

In my school that would either be (1), or, if you're really lucky, an excuse for a nice cosy chat in the DH's office.
I err towards (2), but then I'm in a bad mood having been told by pupils to shut up more times than I can count today. No action to be taken because ... oh I can't remember.
Belated place mark - I've been lurking madly and stealing the biscuits when no one was looking.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 17/05/2021 18:29

It's my standard morning greeting noble

CallmeHendricks · 17/05/2021 18:31

Wahay!!! Let's crack open some fizz. A celebration is in order!

noblegiraffe · 17/05/2021 18:33

I'm thinking of adopting it too, Herc, it has a certain swagger.

MrsHamlet · 17/05/2021 18:35

I like it. It's got a certain he ne sais quois.

CallmeHendricks · 17/05/2021 18:47

I wonder if noble's going to do that irritating thing some kids do, whereby every reference you make about previous learning is met with a hand waving wildly in the air, "But I wasn't here!!!!!"

Saucery · 17/05/2021 18:49

Did she leave a page in her book for the Topic Header, though?

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2021 18:49

What actually is surge testing anyway?

Matt H has just urged everyone in Bedford to participate. But no info form the news on what that actually means.

Mistressinthetulips · 17/05/2021 18:49

That sounds like a great thread title Grin

Frlrlrubert · 17/05/2021 18:50

Written warning for inappropriate language here. Year 7 to 9 I'd probably take two minutes at the end of the lesson to explain acceptable language, etc. 10 or 11 would just get an accompanying eye roll.

Mistressinthetulips · 17/05/2021 18:50

...and I've just had to google it

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2021 18:52

wagwan pussy whores is c) Mrs Piggy completely losing her shit, shouting a lot, hectoring and lecturing the child and sending him directly to jail, via an isolation room and an angry email with multiple typos.

This is followed by staff twat in isolation unit asking me to have a little chat with the vile creature and me kicking off about sexual harassment.

Usually.

DreamingofBrie · 17/05/2021 19:00

Hope you feel better soon Honey. I have a colleague who ended up in hospital after her first jab, she had such a severe reaction, and 2 who had to take time off afterwards, so you'll not be doing yourself any favours by dragging yourself in.

Got a bunch of Y7 assessments to mark this evening, but nothing too taxing, then only 3 lessons on Wed, all of which are planned. I'm knackered.

Noble, I'd probably issue a sanction for that greeting, but if I tried a day's isolation I'm pretty sure someone higher up the chain would not allow it. I have to say, I'm pretty disgusted by some of the language used by the pupils, especially in the younger ones.

I'm yearning for my own classroom now, fed up of poor behaviour in general. Got hit on the head when a Y11 kicked a football at me, and it took them 5 minutes of saying "it wasn't me" before one of them could be persuaded to apologise Hmm.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/05/2021 19:01

hendricks, wassup?!

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/05/2021 19:03

Oh I see, you were responding to that rude person who seems to be attention-seeking....

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/05/2021 19:03

If I’m honest it would depend on student.... someone causing lots of strife likely to be one day in isolation. First time offender - probs SLT detention and strong words...

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2021 19:07

See? This is why I should be SLT. No little fucker would get away with such misogynistic and frankly ridiculous language on my watch.

Brap.

CallmeHendricks · 17/05/2021 19:12

My HT is really good at removing sweary and badly-behaving children from class. Her office is rarely without some miscreant spending time-out in there.

MrsHamlet · 17/05/2021 19:14

Mind would either chuck them in isolation or ignore, depending on which member of staff had been addressed as a "pussy whore"
