You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I've never heard of any of those schools.

I know its only Wednesday of week 1, but my absolute hatred of school/education in general isn't anywhere near wearing off this holiday like it normally would. Was last in this state in the summer I was writing up my NASENCO change project. Not a good time.

If I just need to get to Xmas 2023, should I hang in at current school, or try somewhere else?

HarrietDVane · 07/04/2021 22:04

Love it Noble!

That list of behaviour hubs is very heavily London/Home Counties-centric.

I’m wondering if it’s your school that the problem rule

They sound bloody awful. Do you think a better school could rekindle the love of teaching. Or at least put out the flames of hatred.

I look at schools like Michaela with a bit of longing if I’m honest. My schools not bad but I don’t feel backed up with regards to behaviour.

I’ve reported some pretty serious stuff, to be told it’s been dealt with as they had a “serious word” with said pupil. The serious word does fuck all.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/04/2021 22:41

Haha, the Tom Bennet thread on Twitter has a comment underneath "Some of the worst behaviour I've experienced was half day supply at one of these schools. Nice quiet corridors though." Or something like that.

@WhenSheWasBad it's not been a good 2 years to be in a new school - especially one where the head has been seconded, the DH has been shielding and the senco has been off with MH stuff, for the majority of the year. And a new behaviour thing that wasn't embedded well enough before covid kicked in. I've asked for some specific stuff to be sorted when I get back - ie clear escalation process to stop lessons being disrupted constantly. With slt basically being off, we just fought fires and put up with shit. I'm longing for the one behaviour issue I thought I had in my old school!

CarrieBlue · 07/04/2021 22:53

One school in the biggest county 🙄

Quite Catholic heavy too

ChloeDecker · 07/04/2021 23:00

Superb!

Piggywaspushed · 07/04/2021 23:03

I see there was an EBacc requirement for selection...

TheHoneyBadger · 07/04/2021 23:03

Not heard of these schools either.

Stick it out is my vote Rule. Sounds like you’ve ridden out the worst it could ever be and should feel easier in future and like you’ve earned their respect and gratitude. You’d hope at least

I shouldn’t be advising anyone though. This year I could do with a little banner ad saying this teacher has been brought to you by cheap gin and caffeine.

CarrieBlue · 07/04/2021 23:08

The catholic high school is in my home town. It always had the best results in the town but it was selective (by religion but there were plenty parents who played the system via church attendance to get their kids in) - it’s also in a three tier area so only y9-13

HarrietDVane · 07/04/2021 23:12

Carrie I think we must come from the same area! Are you still local?

TheHoneyBadger · 07/04/2021 23:12

Being willing to attend mass to get your kids into a school is totally selective though. More so than happening to be a catholic imo.

Parental valuing of education and involvement right there.

CarrieBlue · 07/04/2021 23:15

Harriet - no not for a long time, and I didn’t go there (my school was knocked down!) but knew lots who did.

CarrieBlue · 07/04/2021 23:16

Absolutely.

Do others get the feeling of spying when you see someone from here (or another series of threads one’s on) starting a thread about something pretty unrelated, where people obviously also know them from a series of threads? Am slightly tempted to join but it would feel like pushing one’s way loudly into a different circle of friends!

HarrietDVane · 07/04/2021 23:30

Carrie- I didn't go there either; I lived out in the sticks and went in a different direction to school, plus I'm not RC.

ChloeDecker · 07/04/2021 23:34

I noticed none of Tom’s old schools were in that list Grin (or anything inside London really)

ChloeDecker · 07/04/2021 23:34

Or Wilshaw’s old schools come to think of it!

noblegiraffe · 08/04/2021 00:32

Jan it is definitely a bit weird spotting posters from here out in the wild posting about random stuff. Like stumbling across a colleague on facebook!

Morning all!

Had such a lovely day yesterday. DH took DD on a long bike ride so was just DS and me at home. For Xmas he had been bought some foam model airplanes. We had a hall few hours decorating them, building them and testing them out. Then we decided to build a runway ... then an airport ... then a town. Had to spend the rest of the day navigating space in our lounge was DS didn’t want to have it taken down. Need to get my brain in gear to decide what to do today. Anyone else like that? Need a plan otherwise end up sitting around all day?

Pack a picnic and head off out for a walk somewhere lovely is always my go-to on days where I know we’ll otherwise just end up sitting around. Whatever the weather, we just dress accordingly! We are lucky to live surrounded by lovely beaches and countryside all within 10-15 mins, and everyone is always happy when we are outside. Plus then I don’t mind so much if the kids have a bit of screen time when we get back
motherrunner · 08/04/2021 07:52

What is my council thinking?

The school I teach at is half a mile away from here.

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/04/2021 08:00

Morning everyone Smile

rule it sounds tough at your place Sad if the SLT are back now and making progress, it may be worth sticking it out and weathering the storm so to speak. If it doesn't look that way, there's no shame in looking elsewhere- some schools are just not the right fit.

@motherrunner that sounds lovely! I had a nice day yesterday- me and DS have been building a model volcano and did the eruption. Plus saw my mum in the garden.

It's grey and drizzly here today so not sure what we will do. Might actually get my arse in gear and do some of the mountain of school stuff I need to do while DS plays.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/04/2021 08:44

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot I don’t think it’s just you. I feel like usually in the holidays I can not think about work at all after a few days - but at the moment there is always new guidance, ‘helpful’ announcements from twatlar and it’s doing my head in. I’m getting all angry about teaching in general and want everyone to fuck off. I do also have PMT mind....
