You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Testing going smoothly (apart from the uncovered bins). Students diligently wearing masks and no complaints whilst testing either. No positives so wondering whether they’re swabbing hard enough!

Appuskidu · 10/03/2021 16:40

This week is going so slowly! I can’t believe it’s only Wednesday Confused.

The nicest bit is how pleased the kids are to be back but there is a socking difference between those who have been doing stuff at home and those who haven’t. We have some who have clearly read loads throughout lockdown and have now moved up three book bands and others who seem to have barely spoken.

The least nice bit is assessment Sad

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/03/2021 16:50

All fine thanks to whomever asked!

Seen the Beeb article, how those dreadful school LFTs are "ruining" the return to school (because they aren't allowed to be countermanded* by a Negative PCR)?

Year 2 have been sent home at our school today. A child has tested positive.
Of course, the staff don't need to isolate though. They are magical and won't get covid. Hmm

chocolateisavegetable · 10/03/2021 17:06

4 weeks tomorrow ..! Not that I’m counting

You're definitely not counting, because it's THREE weeks tomorrow (P.S. please don't scare me like that Wink

chocolateisavegetable · 10/03/2021 17:08

tisaginthing well that didn't take long! I can't believe they're not telling staff to isolate Shock

That’s rubbish! If kids don’t wear masks in primary classes then it has to count as a bubble and close completely.

Have they sent the kids home but keeping the staff in school teaching the class from the room remotely?

Ha ha! I did know that, just terrible eyesight in my phone.

And yes, I have no responsibility for bar coding the Covid tests 😆

motherrunner · 10/03/2021 17:16

@Appuskidu Is right. Primary staff are parts of bubbles. What’s the reason @tisaginthing for staff not isolating?

WhenSheWasBad · 10/03/2021 17:26

Well Year 9 didn’t disappoint.

So frustrating, most are lovely but there are 8 kids in the class who simply love the sound of their own voice.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/03/2021 17:39

Agree with Appu you would think they would be sent home.

jjejj · 10/03/2021 17:41

Staff are always sent home in my primary school if your class bubble burst.

tisaginthing · 10/03/2021 17:43

@Appuskidu @motherrunner I have no idea but I'm cross! I'm guessing that they are trying to make out that the staff didn't go near the children. Which is a joke, obviously you need to go near Year 2 children.
We haven't done live lessons so not as such. The last time Year 5 and 3 popped the staff were sent into other bubbles to cover/support. Really hoping that they don't try and do that with us (Year 1). Some of the parents in my class are shielding so to do that just seems really risky Sad
Some of the children were crying too. They had just got used to being back in school!

Appuskidu · 10/03/2021 17:47

To spread the covid round the school just a little bit more?!

Crazy!

KatherineOfGaunt · 10/03/2021 17:52

I can't believe staff were sent into other bubbles to cover, @tisaginthing. That's awful.

The more I think about this, the more I think it's worth speaking to your union?
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/03/2021 18:02

Are they trying to get all the bubbles to burst? That’s mad. It’s also a policy you might have got away with previously but not with the new variant.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/03/2021 18:13

I'm turning into that person who is pissed off with other teachers not pulling their weight, producing shoddy lessons, etc.. and want to start doing obs and monitoring.

They really are taking the piss. Did all the way through lockdown.. and for the last year.

How long do I have to wait for the 'mental health' thing to be a non-issue do you think?

MrsHamlet · 10/03/2021 18:24

I was already that person rule!

Told the head today that I'm applying for jobs. Basically got a shoulder shrug. Nice.

Loveagoodbuffet · 10/03/2021 18:35

Tired. Painting on a weds afternoon and a non ventilated room due to the wind blowing their paintings about.
Marvelous Grin

Piggywaspushed · 10/03/2021 18:36

For those of you who know of Vic Goddard of Passmores, his site agent has died of covid Sad

Loveagoodbuffet · 10/03/2021 18:38

Yes the staff should be sent home. It works on close contacts so that particular class plus anyone who has had contact within the bubble during playtime.
Including staff.

tisaginthing · 10/03/2021 18:39

@chocolateisavegetable I'm thinking about it yeah.
It's madness isn't it? I just don't understand it, they aren't doing anything that they couldn't do from home. To me it just sends the message that your health and your family's health doesn't matter.

Piggywaspushed · 10/03/2021 18:41

This lateral flow thing is such an unholy mess, isn't it?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/03/2021 18:58

I was already that person rule!

Yes, me too - pre pandemic. I've tried to be 'nice' since, but now I'm fucked off with it. It's not capability, it's 'can't be arsed'.
