You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

@DrMadelineMaxwell i'm in the same situation. Hospitalised with asthma tons as a a child, now just on and off but not overnight for oxygen but still on two puffers and montelukast.

I know so many asthmatics in urban areas done for lesser medication than I am on but not me, out here in the sticks. Then my friend in Brighton rang to say that she had been done for her Hashimotos. My gp is saying no to that as it's not necessary. I really would be better off tipping over to dangerous BMI, it wouldn't be that much of a push at the moment! I think it is because we are just not getting the same stock as urban areas. It's a slow roll out, they are still on the 60's.

At 49, my gp said June or July. I have not large hub near me- all our local hubs are gp led.

And all the parents at pick up are merrily maskless all my year 6 boys and girls left to wander home in a big gang, go to the park and the chippy. Because it's all back to normal.

I shall be furious and afraid till I get my vaccine.

Loveagoodbuffet · 10/03/2021 06:29

@phlebasconsidered @DrMadelineMaxwell same situation too. Hospitalisation doesn't count. 40s so will be in group 10. Have long covid (coming up to a year now) and still fall quite ill/ breathless at low level activity.
I try to look at it that the more people getting vaccinated, the closer I am and the queue I'd moving quickly.

Beachhuts90 · 10/03/2021 06:35

One of my colleagues got her vaccine by phoning her GP and adding herself to the key worker list, which they will call if there are any left over. I haven't tried this yet with mine but it might be worth a try.

Our surgery have said not to try this, as they don't have a list for spares at the end of the day, they just phone the next few people who are due to be invited. They are working their way through groups 5 and 6 at the minute.
RandomGrammarPun · 10/03/2021 07:28

Our area is nearly done group 7. They claim to have finished group 6 so have been excellent at taking calls/emails from people who think they've been missed and adding them ASAP. This happened to three colleagues (diabetes/asthma/unpaid carer).

I dealt with lots of "still involved" parents in my previous career and whilst recruiting. 18-22 year olds whose CVs had gone in the bin for being shite but who had a parent ring in to demand an interview. Once a colleague agreed to interview one and she turned up in jeans and couldn't answer a question. The parent rang up AGAIN to demand she was appointed...

I wonder if this varies by area, or maybe even by GP! I HATE talking to the doctor (and kind of by extension everyone else there haha) so it's not something I'm particularly motivated to do.

My area did recently have a weekend where they were gonna have loads left over at one place, it might be related to that and not wanting a repeat.

Piggywaspushed · 10/03/2021 08:14

We have had so far only one positive result (let's momentarily overlook the fact that the others had a 50/50 at best chance of accuracy) . The SLT seem very keen to tell us 'it's probably false'. I think they like the geeky maths bit of it but it has annoyed me. So what? Some of the negatives are probably false too!

TheHoneyBadger · 10/03/2021 08:28

Morning. No positives at our school yet having tested years 10, 11, 12 and 13.

I'm shattered and dreading year 10's this afternoon a bit. Today is their second day back and I see them last period so am guessing they'll be knackered and moany and I have to start a new topic with them. Then bus duty in the pouring rain.

I’m feeling the dread too. Year 9s are back. They can be an overexcited pain in the bum at the best of times. Lord knows what they will be like first day bavk

HerdyGerdy · 10/03/2021 09:08

I hate that I’m going to be an evil witch and do assessments with Yrs 9 and 11 the first lesson back. We were told to keep going with our assessment schedule but happy first day back kiddos! Urgh.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/03/2021 09:17

Apparently we are now leaving the tests for the appropriate 30 minutes. Which I'm very pleased about. Of course, that's from this morning so anyone tested on Monday and Tuesday are still thinking they're negative when we actually don't know.

Oh no herdy!! I've got to do tests next week with year 10, but at least they'll have had a few days back before I spring it on them.
noblegiraffe · 10/03/2021 09:27

But I thought your head had taken advice from medical professionals, MsAwesome?

What an arse.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/03/2021 09:59

So did I noble. There's a huge story behind this, but suffice to say he's been overruled. He didn't back down, he's been ordered to do it properly.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/03/2021 11:41

Grr, am home, about to go in for my usual start time. Have just noticed a missed call on my mob from school. Could it be about DS who was tested this morning??? Can't get through to reception and I have no idea who called!

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/03/2021 12:22

It wasn't a test result, phew!

HSHorror · 10/03/2021 13:51

Hospitalisation for asthma should count according to the gov book about it. But seems gps are ignoring it.

Hashimotos doesnt seem to be listed (though other autoimmune issues are)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/03/2021 15:28

Hospitalisation should count. I think the problem is the criteria for asthmatics aren’t easily searchable so it’s going to involve going through every patient record individually.

Monkeytennis97 · 10/03/2021 16:02

DH was hospitalized numerous times for asthma as a teen. We phoned GP but told no, it had to be in the last year. We phoned on the day it came out in the news that GPS were doing this.

I have begged as carers to our son too but no as we are not full time carers anymore.

Piggywaspushed · 10/03/2021 16:16

Sometimes I feel like I am in a parallel universe on MN. Have just got in from school where all the kids are sitting compliantly wearing masks in lessons (unless exempt)and trying not to moan about it and then I head over to masks thread and encounter vicious, aggressive, entitled and often ignorant posters who say 'my child will not wear a mask'. Are their children hypothetical? Where do these people live? The hick in me wants to assume they are all Londoners.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/03/2021 16:17

so so so so tired.

That is all.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/03/2021 16:25

Some of my year 11 told me today that "it's not the law to wear a mask in school" but then wore them anyway when I pointed out it isn't the law to wear their ties either but I'd still give them a detention if they weren't. They're a bit grumbly about it, so I don't think it'll take long before some of the more defiant ones start arguing properly about wearing them. The majority will wear them though.

Monkeytennis97 · 10/03/2021 16:25

@TheHoneyBadger

so so so so tired.

That is all.

Feel the same and have only taught easy behaviour classes so far. So done with this year (academic year) already.
