You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Question for secondaries: is your school still setting up a mass covid testing centre?

My school has said literally nothing about this so I assumed it was in the bin but on the handing in section 44 thread there are still schools going full steam ahead?

CallmeAngelina · 07/01/2021 00:05

Small technical query - how come the school laptops are sent home? Apart from the rather obvious hitch in that plan meaning they're then not available for kids in school (and they may never be returned), but ours are charged in the trolley and don't have individual charging cables.
So how are they charged at home?

Fossie · 07/01/2021 00:30

Noble our school is testing the kw and vulnerable kids and those teachers on site next week and we have all got to say if we will take the test by Friday. Thankfully not many are in school.

So, I am in the situation now where come Monday I cannot teach my subject. No one in my school is even willing to countenance ClickView and half my class do not won a copy of the film I am mid teaching. No clips on YouTube. Aaargh.

Just keep getting shirty answers from SLT and no help from IT support.

I woke up at 5 stressing about this!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 07/01/2021 06:25

Hi all, survived yesterday and staff meeting went to teams and cancelled.

Can't tell you about an email I received as outing but I stupidly read it at 10:30 and didn't sleep till 1.:00 waking at 4:00. Fml. So cross about it.

Anyway, this is v sad but also highlights vomiting and D.

I think tablets are better tbh. Apple do special discounts for education and some schools use them daily in class from about y4 or 5.

RigaBalsam · 07/01/2021 06:29

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

In school, the kw group watches the lesson vids on the big screen.
That's what we have too. Sometimes the pc is turned away from the class so you are talking through the mic with back to the kids.

Is it available on DVD? Our media teacher bought several copies of his films to loan out to pupils a while back and has since topped it up to a full class set. They'll get posted home.

I’m in school today for the first time this year. I’m teaching 3 hours online and I’m supervising 15 KS2 kids in school at the same time. I’m feeling so wound up!

There'll be lots of teachers breaking copyright laws all over the place right now (unwittingly or not). Gove might have made us teach all out of copyright texts at GCSE in English, but a vast majority of KS3 schemes involve in copyright texts. And drama.

No one's thought about that, have they? (At govt level; some publishers have been obliging.)

NeurotreeWenceslas · 07/01/2021 06:48

Sorry, I should know this but google has failed me.

Dh says I could meet one adult outside, 2 m apart, and take our respective under 10's. Eg park.

Is that right?

RandomGrammarPun · 07/01/2021 06:49

Under 5s, I'm afraid, in England.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 07/01/2021 06:49

Oh I'm so cross.

If you'd received an email on monitoring and scrutiny last night how would you react?!

It wasn't about that but similar.

I'm now one of those teachers who's more experienced than those who are telling me what to do.

Older grumpy teachers from my past, I'm sorry. I get it.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2021 07:14

Yeah random; it's not such an issue with English as it is with film though. We absolutely rely on them being able to view our texts online because the AV text is what they analyse! At least in English you can find bits of the texts/ do poems etc.

I am so stressed Sad I am going to ahve to teach my subject via the medium of screenshots at this rate (and I can't' even find those form the film I am doing!!). Gove would be delighted to hear this obviously.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 07/01/2021 07:15

I'm so sorry piggy. it's so hard to do what you know you need to do and have no way of doing it.

Monkeytennis97 · 07/01/2021 07:20

@Piggywaspushed totally understand how you feel.ThanksThanks

RigaBalsam · 07/01/2021 07:21

Piggy how much would it cost to buy everyone a copy? Send the bill to Gav.

It's a total nightmare for film/media, but if your scheme in English is to read a whole novel, it would also be illegal to do some parts of that remotely, too. Arghghhh.
RandomGrammarPun · 07/01/2021 07:23

And music!

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 07:41

Big argument with DS13 last night re bedtime /screens meant I didn't sleep, hope I manage to stay awake while supervising the KW children today......

There has been abs no mention of testing at our school, other than hearing on grapevine that our SBM and her deputy have watched the "gripping" training videos on Monday.
