You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@GravityFalls I would perhaps try having the youtube links open in different tabs on my browser before the lesson so that I can switch between them and my ppt maybe? Then if sharing your desktop you can just jump between what you need possibly?

SansaSnark · 06/01/2021 11:58

@Piggywaspushed

Do NOT look at the AIBU thread on sending kids in to school because you want to 'resist'. It's poisonous.

I might try reporting it in a bit. It is encouraging people to put lives at risk.

Do you think it's worth all of us mass reporting with a similar message?
MsAwesomeDragon · 06/01/2021 11:58

MrsHP that applies to my dh. He isn't really taking on much/any of the home school responsibilities for dd2, because he needs to concentrate on his work. But he starts work at 9am, has a proper lunch break, then finished at around 5/5:30. I, on the other hand, am at my computer by 7am, record videos til 9, then get dd2 sorted and started on her first lesson, do any live lessons at the right times, sort out problems with dd, answer emails/chat from pupils needing help or submitting work, plan for tomorrow's lessons, etc. And I'm often still sitting at my computer at 7pm. Now, dh does cook my dinner, but he's had about 4 extra hours in the day, but can't possibly help sort dd out to access her school work because he's "busy", so it's left to me. It's very frustrating. And it must be replicated in households around the country with one or both parents prioritising their "working day" even though a lot of their work tasks could be done in the earlier mornings or evenings.

My drawing pen thingy just arrived. I look like a right tit with the funny glove but it's brilliant. It'll save much time marking stuff in one note I think

I just ordered a proper webcam. I can't do this on Teams with young kids flicking about between pinned cameras and accounts in order to use the visualiser. OMG.

BUT, I had a better turn out on Teams this morning for registration than I've had in school since early October, so that's a win. And they were REALLY excited about it all - demanded I did a proper register so they could say good morning in various different languages. I've got kids in India who will be doing my end of day story slot as their bedtime story. So that's cute.

Piggywaspushed · 06/01/2021 12:27

Yes I do sansa.

Boris has just said the risk to children is greater 'crossing the road' (again ignored adult workers in schools) and schools will be the first thing to reopen.

How does that help the economy and spending, Boris?? Nice to know he is keen to rush everyone back in.

He used the vector thing again.

That's sounds awesome!

Now can someone tell me how I put a background or blur on zoom please?

It's not just adult workers in schools (obviously we matter), but the more I look at the data, the more I think having schools open is a major risk to wider society.

Schools can't reopen as normal until we have a huge percentage of the population vaccinated (IMO).

They need to move away from the open/closed dichotomy and think about sustainable plans for schools e.g. rota systems etc.

Yes, I do.

SansaSnark · 06/01/2021 13:12

I've reported the thread- hopefully something will happen with it!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/01/2021 13:21

MrsHP yes you're good to go now.

You know what would make desmos the one stop lesson tool, if you could live feed a visualiser into the lesson slides. Then I'd be sorted.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/01/2021 13:31

I spent an hour this morning trying to sort out having two devices using the same account for Teams so I flick between the two showing me and then showing a birds eye view of my desk so I can model. Me and my partner teacher were pulling our hair out. Gave up, ordered webcam that I can physically bend downwards.

Teams is struggling today right?

looseddaughter · 06/01/2021 13:34

Gav - report your school to OFSTED if you're not happy with school remote learning! Tbf, he did say try the school first but still...Angry.

This year they'll trust teachers not algorithms to arrive at grades! Wow - what a thought.

RubyViolet · 06/01/2021 13:34

House of Commons now. Gavin just casually encouraging Parents to report Teachers if they feel that their children aren’t getting enough school provision at home.
He’s showing us who’s boss.

Mistressiggi · 06/01/2021 13:36

(Misery post warning). There is no peace in my house. Dh on zoom in the kitchen. One dc in the sitting room watching Dan TDM, other in their own room. It's freezing (literally) today so garden is out! I know our bedroom will be a state as dh won't have made the bed and I can't tell him to do it himself as, zoom. Things not going well and we haven't even started the education part yet! (Inset till Monday). I am envious of colleagues with their own study to work in. Maybe I should do what half of mumsnet seems to agree with and send dc to school? Wink

Mistressiggi · 06/01/2021 13:37

Good grief Ruby, what a tosser. Isn't he too embarrassed to show his face after his last "announcement"?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/01/2021 13:39

Gav can kiss my arse. After he's provided every child in the country with their own device to work on, and broadband for all.

phlebasconsidered · 06/01/2021 13:40

Ffs. I'm upto 22 kids now. From tomorrow. We may as well open! The sooner I get it and the head realises this is fucking dangerous the better. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

ineedaholidaynow · 06/01/2021 13:41

Bet Ofsted will enjoy reading some of the parents' complaints as I am sure they will be constructive and reasonable.

Piggywaspushed · 06/01/2021 13:43

Oh Gavin Gavin. You are a pillock.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH EXAM CLASSES>>>WE NEED TO KNOW

Oh great, thanks Gav. Ffs

I can’t please 150 different sets of parents. Some want more work some want less. Damn it.

looseddaughter · 06/01/2021 13:45

Does he want to replace all schools with Oak...?

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 06/01/2021 13:46

That’s just ridiculous.

I’ve have a friend who is a part time accountant. She gets places (full time) for her kids as she does payroll.

At the moment we don’t have much of the new variant round here and numbers are low (ish). But all these kids in is just going to spread it.

We're trusted to come up with grades but not to actually teach- seems an odd position to hold!
