You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Point being you don't have to do a dramatic brave heart stand. You are acting out of professional concern for students, colleagues and the community. You can say how uncomfortable it makes you and emphasise you are totally willing to be there in person for kw and vulnerable kids. You're not being an arsehole basically

I am going to entirely lose my shit on big MN.

Can someone give me some Valium please?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 18:42

The thing is, this is looking like emergency measures now.

The heads sound like they have it right with their ideas and support the neu.

Tests, vaccines etc, will take more than 2 weeks, let's face it.

SaltyAF · 02/01/2021 18:42

@phlebasconsidered

We've had a head email saying we are now allowed a mask when talking to parents! In for a full staff on Monday and "please bring questions". Fucking right I will! Wearing an actual mask. Head specifically says they feel parents are the problem not children.

Give me strength. My no drinking tonight has not happened.

Ditto (gin)

@Monkeytennis97

So as secondary teachers do we send that letter now or wait until w/b 11th?
Yeah, this is what I'm confused about too- we have an inset on Monday, so are definitely expected on site then.

I'm not sure about the rest of the week.

I have emailed my reps and asked for advice!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 18:43

I'm ready for a Sherry. Nearly done plans for next week, assuming we are in.

SaltyAF · 02/01/2021 18:47

we're all medical professionals now apparently, so it's fine.

SmileEachDay · 02/01/2021 18:47

Me too - she just got back to me saying they are working on it, join the NEU meeting if I can but at the moment the expectation is that we’re all in on Monday. (Secondary, Tier 3/just)

StanfordPines · 02/01/2021 18:48

Just to put it into context I just had my shopping delivered.
Because we are tier 4 the driver couldn’t take the old bags back or drop the shopping in my house, I had to unpack crates.
On Tuesday I am expected to be in a room with 26 children and 3 adults. I will need to go through book bags, do up shoe laces and help with coats.

Silver linings, eh Salty

HerdyGerdy · 02/01/2021 18:48

Oooohhhh @TheHoneyBadger I trained in Brighton as well! I'm wondering if we had some of the same tutors... did you train at Brighton or Sussex uni? I miss B&H - I'd move back in a heart beat.

SaltyAF · 02/01/2021 18:48

Speaking of vaccines, I'll happily be bumped up the list but I would like the Oxford vaccine. I had no thoughts on this until a friend of a friend on FB said he would choose a conventional vaccine over an mRNA version. This has passed me by.

Undergrad at Sussex pgce at Brighton. Amazing the difference of worlds with only a railway station bridge between them Wink
Monkeytennis97 · 02/01/2021 18:53

@SansaSnark thank you. I will email the rep too.

HerdyGerdy · 02/01/2021 18:59

Ah, I'm a Falmer girl. We always considered those at the Sussex Uni to be a class above us Xmas Grin.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/01/2021 19:03

I'm NASUWT.

Crickets from them. I'm tier 4, rapidly rising case numbers and we are due in for full staff in hall inset on Monday 😱

I don't mind having an mRNA vaccine, but I'm concerned about the mixing of vaccines- not because I think it's unsafe, but because I think it will reduce efficacy. Until the government stop their plans to do that, I'm not especially interested in being vaccinated.
noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 19:12

smile there are posters angling to get teachers banned. Don't do it!

Unless you're losing your shit at Gavin or someone not on MN, that's fine.

Jinglingmod · 02/01/2021 19:16

Yeah, my supermarket delivery driver refusing to take plastic bags back again "because tier 4..." Hmm

GravityFalls · 02/01/2021 19:17

@RigaBalsam, that’s appalling.

That comma...!
