You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

Don’t look at the tests by specimen date data.
Why only up to the 22nd??!

Weird. If I filter for just England I get later dates

@NeurotreeWenceslas Ah maybe he’s not ready then....mine doesn’t get hysterical or overtired unless up past her bedtime (6.30pm, same from five weeks old - nothing if not predictable, my child 😂). Tbf, she’s never napped longer than half an hour since 5 weeks AND she wakes up at 5ish every day....kid is a machine. If I could bottle her energy I’d make a fortune!

Good luck with the weaning; my friend (also a teacher) just went through it with her 2.5yo and she says life is much easier on the other side but hard work. You must be a machine yourself to work and keep up your energy levels!

@MrsChristmasHamlet There was all this talk of Gav and Gove and then a male bottom....I almost didn’t dare click on the picture

MrsChristmasHamlet · 28/12/2020 16:31

Gav might be in one of those boxes!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/12/2020 16:32

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases

Click on the data tab if it isn’t already selected. 21/22 are probably complete now if government claims that there’s a 5 day lag.

I don’t think it’s been updated since then because Wales, Scotland and NI aren’t publishing that data over the holiday period.

noblegiraffe · 28/12/2020 16:32

That is indeed a nice bottom but I am confused by the socks.

How can I shoehorn this into a maths lesson?

Saucery · 28/12/2020 16:34

Nets, maybe? How much material you would need to cover him up, including the bits you can’t see?

namechangedyetagain · 28/12/2020 16:35

Blimey just woken up from another sleep and thought I'd check to see if there are any updates about primaries and I'm confronted with a festive looking specimen Xmas Wink

Just trying to work out what to do with y8 ds assuming I'm back in training next week. According to his school only NHS workers qualify for a key worker space. Ive left him alone for a couple of hours before but never from 8 til 5. Though actually I can't see myself being well enough to get through a school day at the moment. Not sure what effect that will have on my training though?

MrsHamlet · 28/12/2020 16:36

It's an advert for socks. Apparently.
It's in a lesson about gender and representation in the media. I've also got a lovely video about sanitary towels and parachuting, and one about eating a flake in the bath.
I think this might be the lesson that tips one of them over the edge into leaving. I have everything crossed!!

MrsHamlet · 28/12/2020 16:38

name technically you need 120 days of training to pass BUT most courses have way more in school than that so you shouldn't need to worry. When we had a trainee who was off a lot for personal reasons, she did run out of time but we were happy to sign her off anyway and slightly fudge the paperwork
You'll be fine

Gav joke.

SmileEachDay · 28/12/2020 16:46

I’ve got 3 in my tutor group who are adamant that boys are much worse off than girls re discrimination and stereotyping Hamlet.

It’s wearing combatting it daily.

I’ve just planned a set of online Y10 lessons based on The Lottery. It’s SUCH a great short story.

DecemberStar · 28/12/2020 16:49

That's one thing that I would support the DfE in directing schools to do if/when we close this time around - providing KW places for all those who actually need them!

Saucery · 28/12/2020 16:50

One of my all time favourite short stories, Smile. I read it after Stephen King mentioned it in (I think) Danse Macabre.

MrsHamlet · 28/12/2020 16:52

I do find some of their attitudes odd - one of the boys told me that he wouldn't hold a door open for a girl because she might be offended. When I asked if he'd hold it open for me, he said yes - and then had to find a way of saying "cos you're old" without getting a smack in the chops.
The class is 75% female and the other teacher bailed on teaching gender. I'm making him teach child language as a punishment.

Piggyinblankets · 28/12/2020 16:53

Does anyone think this famed meeting actually happened today? It has not been mentioned in any media at all.

Piggyinblankets · 28/12/2020 16:54

Ahahhahhahahahahahahahaha at that Gav joke rafa!!

Hercwasonasnowball · 28/12/2020 16:56

One of my classes is v boy heavy and oh. My gosh the sexism is rife.
The boys couldn't work out how me and dh didn't share the same surname. They were convinced we weren't married properly and hadn't even considered that it was a woman's choice.

SmileEachDay · 28/12/2020 17:01

One of my all time favourite short stories Ace, innit, Saucery - have you read Examination Day? That’s a cracker as well.

My gosh the sexism is rife massive issue at my school. Goes hand in hand with a kind of “football lad” demeanour. I find remaining even tempered around it really hard.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 28/12/2020 17:01

Pm on radio 4 is leading with schools...

SmileEachDay · 28/12/2020 17:02

It has not been mentioned in any media at all

Yeah, I wondered that Piggy
