You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Dear god, the weather here is appalling. It's been almost completely dark since 3.30, wind is up and rain is battering off the window.

Uncertainty must be crap, I'm so sorry.

Medra · 26/12/2020 17:05

A Boxing Day of isolation done here. Kids are having tons of screen time and I am keeping busy tidying stuff. Tomorrow I might take myself off to watch something I want while they’re watching yet another Marvel film.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/12/2020 17:11

My 6 year old has asked to watch a programme about the Normans. Partner found an adult programme on it - series of 3 heavy duty history docs - she's weirdly loving it. All a bit too much for me tbh, I'd prefer marvel.

DecemberStar · 26/12/2020 17:17

I was thinking, what a pity govt may make school decisions before the effects of yesterday's mixing (theoretically outside tier 4 only!) are apparent. 5 days incubation means people wouldn't be getting tested until 30th, results not til 31st/1st maybe. And of course hospitalisations and deaths following on after, sadly.

Obviously tier review on 30th, to start on ? 1st. If events don't overtake that.

Intelligent friend just texting me asking what our school's doing, no idea of the controversy/chaos/uncertainty. Just accepted what her school have said so far. People have no idea.

DecemberStar · 26/12/2020 17:17

I'd love the Normans progs!

FiggyPuddingFiend · 26/12/2020 17:24

@decemberstar you expect them to make a decision before January 3rd?

MrsChristmasHamlet · 26/12/2020 17:33

Friend of mine has just told me that her HT has summoned SLT to a teams meeting TONIGHT to discuss testing in January!!!

GleamingBaubles · 26/12/2020 17:34

I'm making bread and butter pudding. It's all about comfort food here.
We did a walk/run around with the kids this morning, then let them have wall to wall screen time and Lego / books today. Sometimes it just has to be done.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 26/12/2020 17:36

Can I pop round, baubles? I love bread and butter pudding, and Lego....

GleamingBaubles · 26/12/2020 17:41

The more the merrier Grin sod the tiers!

GleamingBaubles · 26/12/2020 17:41

@MrsChristmasHamlet

Wtf????
MrsChristmasHamlet · 26/12/2020 17:50

I know. Where the hell do people get these dumb ideas?!

DecemberStar · 26/12/2020 17:51

@FiggyPuddingFiend yeah I know, stupid of me.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 26/12/2020 17:55

That is crazy!!! I know they need to plan if it's going to happen, but they could at least have the whole of Christmas weekend off. They'll be incredibly annoyed on the 3rd January when it's announced that the testing won't be going ahead and schools are shut for everyone for a few weeks.
PumpkinPie2016 · 26/12/2020 18:09

@Piggyinblankets your poor friend. How awful Sad

@MrsChristmasHamlet that's barmy and unfair! A lot could happen before schools return and holding SLT meetings on boxing day is ridiculous.

Today has been lazy here. Built some.of DS new lego with him and generally chilled. I need to get out running this coming week though!

Haven't bothered cooking today. Just sandwiches etc using leftovers and nibbles.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 26/12/2020 18:12

All this Lego... I'm jealous!

MsAwesomeReindeer · 26/12/2020 18:13

The weather is awful here as well Dolly. We've got a weather warning in place for flooding. It won't affect me, as I live up a hill, so if my house gets flooded then quite a lot of the city would be completely submerged. It may well affect quite a few of the kids I teach though, there are a lot of low-lying villages in our catchment which are prone to flooding. Snow warning for tomorrow as well. I shall be hibernating.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/12/2020 18:17

I got given some lego of my own. Pretty happy with that.

DecemberStar · 26/12/2020 18:21

Oh rule can you post a pic when you've finished building? I did see something about them doing adult Lego now, is it that?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/12/2020 18:23

Is adult lego a bit pervy? Mine is justa creator set with dinosaurs. I'm going to buy myself a big City set for January.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 26/12/2020 18:23

MrsAR you've just reminded me of the mega floods here a couple of years ago when we lost the power for several days across the city. One of my trainees didn't turn up on the Monday morning. Took ages to track her down. When we finally did, she told me that her house had flooded so she'd gone home to her parents. Which would've been fine but for the fact that she lived at the uni campus up the hill. I live right by the river..
Rule I thought about buying some for myself but it's so expensive!!!

DecemberStar · 26/12/2020 18:26

From the small pic I saw, not pervy (autocorrect tried to introduce Percy there...) just graceful I think.

Hercwasonasnowball · 26/12/2020 18:29

Definitely not pervy! I treated my husband to a set (big pirate ship) and he is like an over excited 8 year old!

MrsChristmasHamlet · 26/12/2020 18:32

THIS IS NOT HELPING!!
When we were kids, we were allowed the Lego out for a week at Christmas. Which must've been chaos because we had the railway line which went all round the lounge, and loads of emergency services, and loads of other things. It was a very small house and it took up a lot of space.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 26/12/2020 18:35

My dds have never liked Lego. I did try, but nothing got them interested in it. Dd2 used to persuade the other kids at the childminders to build her a house from Lego and then she'd play with it as a doll's house, but she didn't like to build it herself.
