You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Yeah, I've been screaming at the TV a lot in the last few days. So many different scientists saying this exact same thing and no one ever says "but schools?"

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/12/2020 09:36

Seeing your home in proper daylight (with time to actually look), is a bit of a shock...the filth!!

GleamingBaubles · 20/12/2020 09:48

@Piggyinblankets

I think it's more that the scientists don't seem to draw the conclusions! I wonder how many have school age children or teacher relatives?
I've had a thought that it might be that most scientists are nerdy swots, so we're probably in nice quiet top sets for most of their school life, and so therefore have no idea what the average middle or bottom set in an inner city comp is like. As a nerdy swot myself, it was a bit of a shock on my first placement!

Were. Autocorrect is crap

@SaltyAF

In Wales, primaries went online on Tuesday but teachers' kids weren't allowed to attend as key workers. Thursday and Friday my sister and stepmum had them for me. Saturday I'm told I can't see them any more.
That sounds like an utterly shit situation. We are constantly caught between a rock and a hard place. In my school we are expected to teach live to timetable where at all possible. This has crept up during lockdown, where initial expectation was a mixture of live and independent lessons.

Still totally pissed off about parental complaint against me on the last day of term. I'm trying not to let it eat away at me but can't help it.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/12/2020 09:49

When I went back to my old school to do work experience, my geography teacher said 'thing is, you don't know what it's like in set 4... treeswingers....'

GleamingBaubles · 20/12/2020 09:51

I did my cleaning on my bonus Friday inset. I was lucky in that my school took it, but my kids school didn't!
I'm also going to teach the kids how to dust and wipe their own shelves this week as that has been very neglected this term.

GleamingBaubles · 20/12/2020 09:52

Parental complaint?! Shitbags
Treeswingers Grin

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 20/12/2020 09:54

That’s horrible DreamingofBrie

Jinglingmod · 20/12/2020 09:55

Twat Hancock on Marr now : "I got up at 5.30 this morning to make sure the new law was passed..."

Aw, diddums, mate. Don't think that's gonna play well with the HCPs working 36 hour shifts or the teachers and delivery drivers who get up at 5.30 every day.

RigaBalsam · 20/12/2020 09:57

Lisa Nandy towing the schools must be open line but then doesn't think MPs should risk going back to London to vote on the new restrictions. Well then...

Cognitive dissonance never fails to surprise.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 20/12/2020 09:58

I was a nerdy swot too at a very nice Catholic girls school. My first placement in an inner city school with 65% FSM was a huge, huge shock. I can see why scientists who were nerdy swots as well might not understand the realities of most classrooms.

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 20/12/2020 10:00

MsAwesomeReindeer

I have changed my hairdresser because my previous one was absolutely shocking about masks back in August (around chins or visors permanently up) and I chose another that was absolutely spot on (even providing customers with a new mask upon entry and staff in proper masks, visors on top, aprons and gloves and I even saw them sanitise the shelves with products on whilst I was there).
Sadly, my appointment tomorrow has obviously been cancelled. I’ll have the badger look for New Year then Grin

OpheliasCrayon · 20/12/2020 10:01

Good morning everyone ! Thanks for the new thread.

We have quite a lot of craft stuff to keep the kids occupied and I'm going to try to get marzipan and icing onto our Christmas cake. My eldest and I are going to decorate it tomorrow while the little one is at nursery for two more days .

DH has a hangover from some very strong beer his work sent him and the kids are happy with a model spaceship (possible life size it's massive ) that they're colouring in....

Any tips for how to get marzipan and icing onto a cake without fucking it up appreciated.

I wrapped all the kids pressies last night. We don't celebrate Xmas (but we would have visited SIL if tier 4 hadn't just happened ffs) but they do get santa and some pressies from us.

We will be having chicken and chips on Xmas day. Yum!

Jinglingmod · 20/12/2020 10:01

Yes, disappointed (though not surprised) re Nandy.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 20/12/2020 10:01

Oh dreaming parental complaints are shit. I hope you can put it out of your mind and relax over the holiday.

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 20/12/2020 10:03

Sadly I need to buy a replacement selection pack. Can't think what happened to the original one...

Ha ha good for you Honey-we need treats like that! Hope you can buy another one Xmas Grin

RigaBalsam · 20/12/2020 10:10

Wow did he just say the NHS are working over Christmas so its ok for Heads too?

Piggyinblankets · 20/12/2020 10:11

Pay the headteachers to work over the holidays then , fuckwit.

noelgiraffe · 20/12/2020 10:11

Does anyone know if that mass testing that everyone was up in arms about being arranged for London and Kent in the last week of term when the Midlands etc was left to rot ever happened?

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 20/12/2020 10:12

I just caught the end of Wancock who looked like he had been dodging questions but he said there will be definitely staggered starts in Jan so children can be tested and put into isolation if positive.
