You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I wish there was some law that made it against the law for members of the government to be held personally responsible for this shit show

Piggywaspushed · 19/11/2020 18:31

Latest leak about exams is we are going to be told topics to focus on.

Not sure how this helps, say, English Lit teachers. It suggests we teach all the texts still but get a hint of the question. But you'd still need to/have taught the text. So instead of cutting content properly, they are going to encourage spoonfeeding. Hmm.

Hercwasonaroll · 19/11/2020 18:39

Piggy that is going to be crazy for maths too. What does topics even mean, will we get ratio & proportion, geometry, statistics, number and algebra?! Or something more specific? Bonkers.

Piggywaspushed · 19/11/2020 18:42

It's the constant tinkering around the edges.Angry

Augustbreeze · 19/11/2020 18:46

I take the Schoolsweek article as a positive sign - govt have realised they might need to look into what measures help reduce transmission in schools. I love this (presumably) misquote as well:

The questionnaires also requested trusts to identify patterns “in terms of sizes of pupils isolating

"Doh, is it the big scary ones or the little bitty cute ones?" Answer: "Mainly the big ones!"

Those graphs!!!

Piggywaspushed · 19/11/2020 18:48

I really think that's naive august, sorry. Their whole goal will be to improve attendance figures by keeping more students in school. They will conclude that too many contacts are being isolated.

monkeytennis97 · 19/11/2020 18:57

Sadly I agree with @Piggywaspushed on this one. They are going to insist less isolate. We are fucked.

Augustbreeze · 19/11/2020 18:59

Yeah maybe.....

Trusts are also being asked what additional support their schools may require to “reduce the number of isolating pupils”

Yep-looks like they’ve already concluded that.

Next steps being, ‘no schools will need to send home anyone other than someone who has tested positive...’

WhyNotMe40 · 19/11/2020 19:09

I think that is the point when we shy ballot for a strike

FUCKING MITIGATION MEASURES SO THEY DON'T GET IT IN THE FIRST PLACE JESUS CHRIST IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE

oh, and testing too, to pick up asymptomatic cases. Thx.

SaltyAF · 19/11/2020 19:40

Yeah I think we will ultimately just be keeping them all in so that the only people affected will be teachers, who can only isolate and test with two symptoms.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/11/2020 20:02

Hmm I'm thinking we may need to restrain noble too!

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2020 20:10

Thanks Honey, but arguing with idiots is my happy place...

Did anyone else spot the weird posters who ripped off my username? That was pretty funny, god knows what they were trying to achieve.

CallmeAngelina · 19/11/2020 20:12

That was someone else? I was going to congratulate you on your promotion!

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2020 20:14

There was a giraffe and a noble elephant discussing amongst themselves how wrong I am about wanting safety measures in schools and we should just get on with it.

I just can't even begin to fathom why.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/11/2020 20:16

Using the caps lock is a definite sign of being close to the edge 🤪

Full on day tomorrow except the trainee is doing one lesson so I just have to observe.

Will be pissing off my year 9s with a new seating plan that is not going to be at all popular and then have the driest ever lesson to drag them through. Hoping to whizz through it if they're on side and then watch a really useful and not totally dull video.

If I haven't been fired or died and am still teaching year 9 next year I'm going to have to rewrite some SOLs because the thematic I'm teaching them is seriously dull.

But you know what tomorrow is don't you?

WhyNotMe40 · 19/11/2020 20:18

Friday?

TheHoneyBadger · 19/11/2020 20:21

Yes!!

TheHoneyBadger · 19/11/2020 20:26

We've got this. 3 weeks down and at worst another 4 to go.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/11/2020 20:42

I’m just focusing on my gcse marking I accidentally signed up to and ignoring everything else about schools because like others I’m so fucking angry about it all.

Also loads of our kids really suffering mentally with worrying about taking home to vulnerable or shielding family members. Also parents who don’t want any break/remote learning week to allow isolation period before Christmas. Who will see who the fuck they like regardless. Then want to send their kids all straight back in. Aaaarrrrgfgghhhhh.

Right back to my marking. Mrs AD I’m getting back on the low carb tomorrow. Have you done full on low carb high fat or just cut back carbs?

DollyMixtureLulus · 19/11/2020 20:42

Ugh, 5 weeks and 2 days for us.
