You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I am now to be referred to as ‘Queen Giraffe’, thank you.

I think it was supposed to be an insult, but hey, I’ll take it

noblegiraffe · 13/11/2020 15:29

Nothing on TES about the secondary figures yet either. Why are journalists so slow?

monkeytennis97 · 13/11/2020 15:34

@noblegiraffe

Dear god schools have made the news. Is a rogue journalist about to be sacked?
My first thought!Grin
motherrunner · 13/11/2020 15:39

Just had an email from the Head. We’re closing to all years next week.

noblegiraffe · 13/11/2020 15:40

Sounds like the only sensible decision in the circumstances, motherrunner, you must be relieved?

motherrunner · 13/11/2020 15:44

I am as this week has been absolute madness, just like the week prior to lockdown.

It’s just confirms how scary the situation is though.

Piggywaspushed · 13/11/2020 15:45

Staff case of Covid in DH's school led to one other staff member having to SI. Hi head has done a cross video because four other members of staff have to SI because of the app. Another head trying to dissuade staff from using app.

He has also told them all off for sitting too close and fraternising etc.

DH is pissed off because he has had two covers in two days and his head has warned them all like they are children that they will have more, as if covid is their fault.

I actually wish my head would do this, mind...

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/11/2020 15:52

As NEU reps we raised the issue of being told to delete or not use tracing part of app whilst in school. LA have now clarified that we SHOULD use the tracing part of app and only turn it off in the scenarios stated int he gov guidance which is basically if phone left somewhere and not on you or if you work totally protected/isolated.

Omg. Just for Wales though.

Higher impact on transmission than previously thought though. That’s a start. They could have bloody asked teachers what they thought, instead of Jenny ‘they’re all facing the front so it’s fine’ Harries.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/11/2020 16:31

Fucking finally.

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/11/2020 16:35

@Possums4evr fingers crossed your test is negative!

Well, despite the robbing peter to pay paul cover situation, my day hasn't been too bad. Taught all 5 lessons plus my form and didn't have any issues. I think sometimes, it's easier to teach all day rather than be in the office!

NQTs flatmate still waiting for test result so hopefully that will come through soon.

Keepdistance · 13/11/2020 16:37

Thats good motherrunner!
Hopefully for 2w to give it a good break in the chain.
Apparently several teachers SI as ours. Not sure if thats just symptoms or t&t etc.
Our la numbers are still growing like crazy. Which will bw a worry if they dont drop at all even with shops shut -should start to be from maybe today/tomorrow.

Doesnt help that some are refusing to shut (Bristol tattoo place with the same guy who wouldn't SI when asked to after being t&t after a flight. Why on earth people are going to a guy for a medical procedure who blatantly ignores rules and cares 0 about anyone but himself/ and a wsm carpet right also had to be forced to shut) again thinking would they be following other covid rules if they are not following that. (Though can see carpets could be essential for building trade).

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/11/2020 16:40

All anyone on another thread would point out is that is it dipping...

And two very large grey areas that could go either fucking way, including v high.

I'd like to point out that I'm afraid I delayed my sons ons test (neg) till the end of half term. (Sorry, he had no symptoms. we also didn't see anyone else at all nor go anywhere other than country walks before hand.) How many others did? There was a window of 3 weeks.

There's no way the 34,000 cases yesterday won't start to show up in school data over the next couple of weeks.

I found out that a bubble at my sons school has closed as a staff member at the after school club has tested positive asymptomatically.

We have no idea how many students are asymptomatic.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/11/2020 16:48

Just checking in. Too tired to have anything coherent today. Ds says kids are saying I was angry today. Gave out quite a few warnings and probably was more irritated by things than usual.

Just exhausted and not enjoying working in these conditions still and not being allowed to do anything else.

Keepdistance · 13/11/2020 16:50

England the kids have masks on PT dont they?

Scotland havent they got masks down to young ones in shops etc?

RigaBalsam · 13/11/2020 16:51

Missed off the angry face off my last message.

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/11/2020 17:01

NQTs flatmate is negative so he can come back Mon yayGrin

hedgehogger1 · 13/11/2020 17:04

@motherrunner coz all those kids have loads of places to go other than schools

hedgehogger1 · 13/11/2020 17:07

@noblegiraffe who knows?! Know two are definitely positive but we don't seem be being told anymore

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/11/2020 17:12

Thank goodness for that motherunner.

ThanksWineCake and early night for many of us. Thank god it's Friday!

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/11/2020 17:13

Forgot my ShockShockShockShockShock

For hedgehogger. Definitely a case to test the school.

SmileEachDay · 13/11/2020 17:16

Our kids who are positive seem to not be triggering any wider isolation because they’ve become symptomatic on a Sunday. PHE are saying if they’re not in school for 48hrs before then no action needs taking.

Not even close contacts.

Also many kids just absent. Most with no confirmation of a positive but I just wonder if parents aren’t bothering to get tests.

It’s all just a bit of a shitshow.
