You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

God I hope that the school that she pulled her kids out of during lockdown are now running a full after-school programme while the new school does nothing.

motherrunner · 23/09/2020 15:53

Another year group sent home from my school due to a positive - I teach them as well.

Iamnotthe1 · 23/09/2020 15:56

@motherrunner

Ffs. There’s a thread complaining about windows being open in the winter.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4031564-Schools-leaving-windows-open-during-winter

Do parents not realise we’re trying to do our best???

I literally said over a month ago that this was going to be an early complaint. Absolutely ridiculous - I will not be blasting the heating in winter and will not be keeping all of the windows closed.
Danglingmod · 23/09/2020 16:21

I'm not even putting the heating on all winter. It's an air circulation system. The dangerous sort for spreading the virus. Thermals all the way.

Iamnotthe1 · 23/09/2020 16:31

I've just been informed that PHE are not longer getting involved in schools and there are no more health teams coming out. Instead, we notify the DfE and they will decide whether a bubble is burst and who needs to self-isolate. PHE are now 'too busy'.

What the fuck? Is it just me anticipating the DfE just telling schools to crack on with it so that the numbers look better?

Medra · 23/09/2020 16:33

I keep walking into rooms where all the windows are closed.

WhyNotMe40 · 23/09/2020 16:38

Did someone have a zoom for teachers guide for dummies they could share pretty please?

Danglingmod · 23/09/2020 16:38

People are still parroting the nonsense that being cold will give you a cold... Or flu Hmm

MrsHamlet · 23/09/2020 16:42

I have one for Teams if that's any use

Keepdistance · 23/09/2020 16:43

I think they did say having a cold nose can make you more susceptible. (Maybe the kids need mask face scarves?)

DM seemed to be saying that SAGE wanted stronger restrictions and a different scientist saying the gov look to be doing a Sweden...

Iamnotthe1 · 23/09/2020 16:45

Unless they are saying that schools and teachers will let children become so cold that hypothermia sets in. That's the only way that being cold can cause you to get a cold/flu (through lowering your immune response).

But, if that's the case, I'd say the hypothermia was more of a concern than a cold.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/09/2020 16:45

People are insane. Knew they’d moan about windows.

A woman has emailed 4 times now still wanting more explanation of why I gave her child a warning for rudeness. One warning ffs! This was given due to her holding up the lesson arguing about whether she was talking when I asked those in that vicinity to stop talking.

Now four emails from parent also wanting to argue about whether she was talking.

There’s a pandemic, teachers are running around the school from zone to zone and risking being in buildings rammed with teenagers and you a parent is going off about 1 warning.

I’m sure we’ll get the window complaints but given it’s just about the only mitigation we’ve got ...

Some compromise was made, branded but cheaper trainers that are perfectly adequate for pe days and playing out meant being able to get 3 acceptable brand pairs of trackpants. He’s unreasonable (he’s a teenager) but I’m possibly unreasonable too and a tad on the mean side.

Eg Ds got his first phone via some saved birthday money added to proceeds of selling Lego, ben10 figures and his old Nintendo ds and games (friends all just got given one). He’s going to have a sort out and see what he can sell.

WhyNotMe40 · 23/09/2020 16:46

Thanks MrsHamlet but you've already been a star and sent me that.

Saucery · 23/09/2020 16:46

Interesting piece about Sweden in Private Eye this week (or maybe last issue, I read both together). More space, more socially minded citizens. Not the crowded spaces and ignorant selfish twats we have here.

Saucery · 23/09/2020 16:48

And vests were still available in shops for children last time I looked.

I’m not feeling very forgiving of whiny asshattery today, can you tell? Grin

Iamnotthe1 · 23/09/2020 16:51

and ignorant selfish twats we have here.

Please ensure you use the Boris-approved phrasing in future. Instead of "ignorant, selfish twats" it should say "freedom-loving, independently-minded, citizens"

I do apologise. Being surrounded by people who wouldn’t give someone else the steam off their piss unless there was something in it for them/they are expressly ordered to, has jaded me.

Piggywaspushed · 23/09/2020 17:09

aim that was flagged about a week ago in the press. I agree that it is sinister. Who at the DfE knows about public health??

Piggywaspushed · 23/09/2020 17:11

That same poster was the one who didn't want the school going over things the students should have learnt in lockdown because her DCs would have to wait for the less able/less supported at home to catch up...

But... wait... they didn't get any work...

Piggywaspushed · 23/09/2020 17:13

riga, Boris is referring to that letter written in August/July...

CountDuckulasKetchup · 23/09/2020 17:19

Just placemarking. Can't rant about my day as its too identifying but I am Angry

SleepymummyZzz · 23/09/2020 17:20

So sorry to hear all the absolute shite everyone is going for and sending good well wishes to all those who are poorly. I am more of a reader than a commenter but this thread is keeping me sane😊 That and the anti anxiety drugs my GP has prescribed as a result of my unsafe workplace 😒

Thermals & baselayers available to layer under uniform too.

Given how much most teens seem to hate wearing a coat in the middle of winter I can’t imagine open windows will be a problem for most of them. Just the parents.

motherrunner · 23/09/2020 17:23

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay exactly!

I’ve just picked the children up from after school club and DS is sitting on the sofa in just his pants as ‘it’s so hot’ 😆
