You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

That's shite.

Keepdistance · 28/09/2020 18:33

Would be interesting to see the spread from those 40 kids.
Also asymptomatic or had say d&v a week ago or a headache.

Augustbreeze · 28/09/2020 18:45

I think asymptomatic means literally nothing wrong (with them) at all.

monkeytennis97 · 28/09/2020 18:53

God, what a day! It's the noise... they are all so much louder than before. I literally can't bear the noise... it's like they used to be on volume of 10 and have now cranked it up to 11 and just no regard for staff and personal space. Had windows open today (refuses to go into a classroom until they were opened) and told kids they could put their coats on (loads of moaning from kids)... Far too many staff so blasé about it, I just want to cry. I know of a couple of people in their 50s who died from this in April, just wish it was taken more as a priority by those who can make things happen.

noblegiraffe · 28/09/2020 19:04

Have you seen U4T are out in force on the boards today? They are desperately keen to tell everyone how awful masks in schools would be, and how useless they are.

I think they’ve seen the figures and are panicking.

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2020 19:08

Our transfer year are much better. I reckon because they never had the feral summer term!

CallmeAngelina · 28/09/2020 19:17

So, where are all our "kids don't spread it" posters these days?

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2020 19:21

Still saying they don't spread it in schools.

noblegiraffe · 28/09/2020 19:25

There just simply isn’t enough data yet, piggy. Despite all the cases in schools they could have caught it outside the school gates and therefore we should ignore the poorly ventilated no SD classroom issue and go with that explanation instead.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 28/09/2020 19:30

I can’t give a shiny shit about U4T they are the archetypal ‘as long as I’m alright jack screw you’ types - all passive aggressive who flip when you disagree with them.

Knackered as cover is starting to get bad.

They are flat-earthers

How does the app work in multi floor buildings? Will it alert me to someone on the wrong floor having it? (showing my ignorance here)

Augustbreeze · 28/09/2020 19:52

I know there's lots of ppl asking whether it'll detect a neighbour through a wall. I'm assuming not but haven't researched that yet!

All moot for me as my phone is too old (apparently the first version would have been fine on it ☹️)

ohthegoats · 28/09/2020 19:54

Well, the workload stuff has arrived - book looks, monitoring etc. Meh. Don't care, just get through it.

Problem for us is that out deputy is stepping up for a term, so she's starting to think about normal things to prove herself or whatever.

Inset tomorrow.

Keepdistance · 28/09/2020 20:02

Just reading in DM it might affect men's testosterone levels.
Went and looked re vitamin d and low vit d =lower testost which i think is interesting

Medra · 28/09/2020 20:04

Loads of vomiting and kids feeling sick at our place this week. 🤢

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 28/09/2020 20:13

There are rumblings of a work to rule at my sunny place. Cover plus duties plus extra stuff is starting to take its toll. A video requirement from each dept showing xyz has tipped staff over the edge

I asked my union rep today to ask the head if he will inform us of a confirmed case in a student. She just sighed and went on about desk cleaning...

12 teachers on cover sheet today but still only one actual confirmed case.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/09/2020 20:23

DD has tested negative. Phew.

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2020 20:25

DS's football team is doing indoor training tomorrow : apparently if you are under 18 you also have covid deflecting properties in an indoor football session.

MrsHamlet · 28/09/2020 20:27

We've got lots of vomiters too.
Colleague who was off last week waiting for a test - which came back negative - was sent home by HT this morning. He looked dreadful. Two other staff left part way through the day, both with partners who have developed symptoms.
We started the day with very little cover but it didn't last long!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 28/09/2020 20:28

Close colleague at work is off with symptoms and trying to get a test. Distancing from DH at home now. Meanwhile monitoring schedule at work rumbles on but the 1:1 ta for an ehcp kid in my class has been off for a week and a half. Freezing in school today. Had to beg them to turn the heating on at break time. Feeling low tonight.

Wish there was enough time for SLT to support staff rather than just monitor them

Frlrlrubert · 28/09/2020 20:32

We 'just' have to fill in a section of Go4 this week to say how each pupil has reengaged. Alright if you're the SLT member with 14 teaching periods a fortnight. Bit shit for those of us with a full timetable. Even worse for the poor non-core teachers with like 25 classes.

I'm alright, I'm core so I 'only' have 9 classes, but I often really feel for the non-core teachers, it must be a right ball ache when everything we 'just' have to do for each class take 2-3 times as long for you. 'Just' update seating plans to follow x new rule. 'Just' enter a little bit of extra data for all your pupils. It must be so annoying when SLT have no idea what it's like to teach over half the pupils in the school all the time.

Yup.
DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/09/2020 20:37

No book looks, learning walks or lesson obs this term. Just conversations between staff and their team leaders re PM and time spent by staff recording evidence in their e-portfolios on EWC.
