You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Ah sorry, I see it's already been linked.

I've slapped it everywhere I possibly can on SM.

starrynight19 · 25/09/2020 20:38

Callmeangelina that’s exactly it Sad

CallmeAngelina · 25/09/2020 20:51

And we don't even merit a mention on the news.
So there's a tacit acceptance that it doesn't even matter how many thousands of schools close, partially or completely. We are accepted collateral damage.

Augustbreeze · 25/09/2020 20:52

All I can see is, it was flip pin' cold today with that "September" wind blowing in the windows! 🥶

Cantaloupeisland · 25/09/2020 20:54

@CallmeAngelina spot on, I remember a while back when there were small numbers of cases in factories the papers were all over it, but for schools- silence.

ohthegoats · 25/09/2020 21:25

It's weird really, isn't it.

ohthegoats · 25/09/2020 21:36

I've just googled local papers (never do that, too many adverts on websites) - three schools close to where I live have partial closures. They are not on the ToryFibs map thingy.

Partner has had 3 tequilas, a bottle of wine and is now onto something else neat in a glass with ice. An evening of having the TV paused so he can talk at me about whatever I'm wanting to watch on the telly. Boooooring.

SaltyAndFresh · 25/09/2020 21:37

Thanks for posting. I just can't bring myself to care about anyone else knowing how easily society has accepted what's happening to us.

Um.... That's quite a lot. Does he often drink that much??
WhyNotMe40 · 25/09/2020 21:41

I'm currently on a house party drinkies with DH's mates. None are allowed back into their offices. Wear masks for shopping etc.
Not eating out as it seems unsafe.
While to me, eating out feels a lot safer than my working life in secondary.....

WhyNotMe40 · 25/09/2020 21:43

And yes we've had cases in schools - no teachers self isolating as obviously they kept at 2m all the time Hmm
It seems like another world....

My DH is the same. In fact he is overly cautious and only goes out for food shopping or exercise. I've reached the point of I might as well eat out cant be more dangerous than work!
ohthegoats · 25/09/2020 21:51

Does he often drink that much?

No. He did through lockdown - cancer scare going on as well as all the covid shit - but has packed in weekday drinking since he had all the all clear at beginning of July. He definitely has an unhealthy relationship with booze overall, but at the moment he's 'OK'. Clearly just fancied getting pissed tonight.

Mine too, and I'm only primary. We were talking about downloading the app or not, and partner pointed out that he doesn't go anywhere, so no point. Pretty sure track and trace aren't going to be down his allotment.

WhyNotMe40 · 25/09/2020 21:56

Sorry for prying.

To be honest, I feel.like getting pissed tonight as well.. and I'm well on the way, so I have no right to comment!

I feel dangerously self destructive actually...

Was it you asking about Zoom teaching WhyNotMe40? We did Zoom teaching during lockdown (primary) and will be doing it again if we need to. Are you secondary? We just made sure the chat function was off and they didn't have access to the whiteboard unless we wanted them too. You can screen share ppts etc. We also had the waiting room ready to kick anyone out who was annoying us. And the mute button is the best for the gobshitesSmile
WhyNotMe40 · 25/09/2020 22:39

Thanks - yes it was me! Thanks that's really helpful!

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/09/2020 08:08

@Keepdistance

Did i say i saw on fb reception teachers group and they were all discussing what songs they now sing handwashing. Shock.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Signing has gone back up to 3 m at my place

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/09/2020 08:11

The Phe report is shocking.

What's also getting me is that primary outbreaks look slightly more than secondary.

Sitting ducks. No masks. Pile of shit.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/09/2020 08:12

And then gaslighting bbc reports about how kids are taking up all the tests but only 1% were positive etc.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/09/2020 08:13

Implying parents are panicking.

No, tests must be done to protect staff!!

HedyPrism · 26/09/2020 09:34

I have not caught up but I had a laugh at the outraged poster on another thread saying she would never send her child to a school where the children were called 'kids'. Grin

mumsneedwine · 26/09/2020 09:51

@HedyPrism she wouldn't like me then. I call them sprogs, rugrats and mini humans. Which is a bit ridiculous as some of them are over 6 foot. In my head I call them many other things too 😇

minisoksmakehardwork · 26/09/2020 09:53

U4T are going to use NEU's own advice and recommendations about minimum classroom temperatures in order to fight the issue of windows being open through winter.
