You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

@SaltyAndFresh

I'm so angry that no-one gives a shit about the conditions were working in. Literally no-one cares. My DH barely registers it; my wider and friends not at all. I was up in arms about frontline staff having no PPE.
Agree. Have fallen out with very close family members as they can't see why we are so vulnerable to Covid. It's been very difficult and caused many arguments sadly.
CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 21:38

Even my own family rolled their eyes and did the "here she goes again" routine.
So I came on here and vented instead (and that went well!)

GuyFawkesDay · 14/09/2020 21:47

Yep, he's a gentle soul is my DS. He will find his tribe soon enough.

We have loads of rich friends (DH went to posh school) but we don't earn enough to have a bigger choice of schools....I feel really bloody guilty I can't give him that.

Agree it's madness in school. I'm so fed up of losing stuff, running round like an idiot all day, behaviour is awful, no time to log anything.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/09/2020 21:59

Welcome back Angelina.

And yes to saying ‘I told you so’. We’ve been saying this since June.

Augustbreeze · 14/09/2020 22:19

Thanks for that @Sureitwillbegrand, very enlightening, and he sounds a good Head. Worrying that it fell to him in the end to make the "clinical" (his word) decisions though...... I presume he could have asked for more help from PH at any point??

Augustbreeze · 14/09/2020 22:20

There's obviously a limit to how many positive cases' "contact tracing" one school could be dealing with at once!

ohthegoats · 14/09/2020 22:22

A friend of mine sent me a link to the ONS deaths by employment type report today, saying 'not many teachers'. Fucking charming!

Can't be arsed with replying that SCHOOLS WERE MOSTLY CLOSED.

Just wrote 'Shoplifting was down when the shops were shut'.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/09/2020 23:36

Realise it is last curfew but welcome back @CallmeAngelina!

Finished work for the night now... 🙄

TheHoneyBadger · 15/09/2020 01:07

I’m way past curfew. Bloody insomnia. Crazy because I was knackered this evening and thought I’d sleep like the dead 💀

MrsHamlet · 15/09/2020 06:57

I hate that. You're so dog tired you think you must sleep tonight... and then you don't. Argh!

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/09/2020 07:02

@TheHoneyBadgeri fell asleep quickly but woke up not long later and feel like I’ve had about 30 mins sleep. FFS.

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2020 07:04

SLT pack dog has requested a meeting with me about timetable. I expect this is the shut up and stop moaning/be a team player/everyone else is really stressed/who do you think you are chat.

eitak22 · 15/09/2020 07:15

@SaltyAndFresh

Me too. I have to cross-stitch my feelings 😂
Glad I'm not the only one who stabs fabric to get over stress!

Weve had no confirmed as of yet but lots of kids off with the cold coming the rounds. Had 5/28 away yesterday.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/09/2020 07:25

@Piggywaspushed good luck.

I've been shafted by the timetable this year and I am not happy either. 50% of my timetable is a subject I don't even have GCSE in, they've changed my day off but nobody else PT in the school has had that happen.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/09/2020 07:30

Good luck piggy. What was wrong with your timetable? I think I've missed something.

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/09/2020 07:32

Zzzzzzz... so tired! Got in from work yesterday to find ds1 with a foot injury which he wasn't walking on so trip to a&e to get it checked. Luckily only soft tissue so he's going to have to try walking on it.

But it meant my mass sort out of my totally squiffy timetable did not get done. So many changes to what senco expected. My head spins daily with it and combined with this mornings email about room changes...

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/09/2020 07:35

Break duty yesterday was also pants! We've been totally stitched up so I've raised my concerns about being left alone and trying to separate students both bullying and hitting another student with no support forthcoming because the staff were taking advantage of having their own break. In principal I don't mind, but it turns out we are covering break because one member of staff who has previously volunteered for and got paid their breaks, is now refusing to do it. I understand why. But we needed a better picture of the students to be able to support and supervise better.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 15/09/2020 07:42

Love that response @ohthegoats I might use that one myself.

@minisoksmakehardwork - so SLT don’t want to admit they cocked up assuming other person would just carry on.

Just my allocation keeps creeping up despite promises from the head that it wouldn't awesome : it's a long story based on years of shoving Baby in a corner.

Mistressiggi · 15/09/2020 08:30

We are all with you Piggy. Stay strong Daffodil

TheHoneyBadger · 15/09/2020 09:12

Sorry to the others with bad nights sleep.

Fitbit says I got about 3.5 hrs.

Off today but need to get my head round some lessons I tried to plan yesterday but my brain was too tired to make sense of.

I also need to get my head around new qma system and marking policy. Think we have a mark scheme for ks4 but ks3 may be swan-which I’ve never used before something like strengths, weaknesses and next steps? I’m pretty much guessing.

Love the way schools come up with totally new policies every bloody year and just as you’ve got into the swing of it they change it all again. Imo any system that staff are familiar with and confident at using effectively is better than a new system every year because someone in slt who barely ever, if ever, teaches has noticed something shiny and new to try.

Cynical old hag here Grin

Ds still off. Just a nasty cold but I obey the 48hr rule for d and/or v plus he doesn’t want to be the kid sneezing and coughing and feeling like a leper.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/09/2020 09:16

Piggy I feel for you. I’m the awkward bugger who speaks up too. Just know your boundary and why you’re correct in having it and be polite but firm. Too much bullying dressed up as being a good team player in schools.

A team is give and take, not constantly taking the piss.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/09/2020 10:42

I need to stop occasionally checking on the AD thread. I’m about to bite and if I do I’m definitely going to get banned.

DreamingofBrie · 15/09/2020 10:59

5 lesson day yesterday. Both dc off with stinking colds and also off with me today (my day off). Like you, @TheHoneyBadger, I don't want them to be the only ones sniffing and snuffling in class - they are making their way through boxes of tissues at the moment.

I fell asleep straight after dinner last night and had very weird dreams involving Dr Frost (Maths teachers will know who I mean). I'm sure it means that work is getting to me.

Have 5 sets of marking and 3 lessons to write/rewrite today. Feel wretched. I'm hoping things settle down soon.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/09/2020 11:39

I had black mirror style dreams last night Confused

A ks2 Bubble closed at my school on Monday. One case, deep clean etc.

I've worked out / gathered from local situations, that if a child has been contact traced from outside school and so is SI and then tests positive, possibly only close contacts they'd been with in school would be told to SI.

If it's a case in school, potentially the whole class/ bubble would.
