You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Welcome back Angelina Gin.

KatherineOfGaunt · 14/09/2020 19:15

Welcome back, @CallmeAngelina! I'll have the chocolate, thanks. Today was a stressful day! Basically no social distancing possible at all. Life is pretty normal at school, except assembly over the Internet and lunch in their classrooms.

Mistressiggi · 14/09/2020 19:23

Wine welcome back Angelina.
Ooh whynot, I'd thought of using a visualiser to project exemplar work on the screen but hadn't thought I could use it just to view on the computer - great idea! (And must be some way of screen shotting it when it's there)

motherrunner · 14/09/2020 19:27

@CallmeAngelina 👋 I hope you used your time to reflect positively on your behaviour 😉

I like it because I can just view on my pc and have a private chat, or display to the board if there is something brilliant to share. The only problem is they have to move around, which I can't allow in some classrooms due to where the pc is / distancing.
CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 19:29

Of course. I wrote stuff down and everything.

motherrunner · 14/09/2020 19:32

@CallmeAngelina Ha!

@Piggywaspushed Thanks for that link - all those dots! I’m aghast this isn’t making the news.

CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 19:34

Primary bods: what are you doing about teaching things like Music/Drama/PE. We've been told "no contact sports," so what does that leave? Music: clearly no recorders (every cloud, eh?) or singing (real shame), so what are you doing?

CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 19:35

Actually, re: Piggy's map link, it's got to be several days out of date. My school's year group was "live" on Sunday, but it only appeared on that map the following Saturday.

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2020 19:37

Did children and teachers consent to being part of an exciting experiment??

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2020 19:38

I think they try the best they can with the map but it must be a constant job!

I wonder when they remove pins too.

CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 19:40

Yes, that's a good point. I will keep an eye on it to see when we are removed.

Saucery · 14/09/2020 19:41

Music : 15 pupil limit for singing. We have xylophones/percussion rather than recorders.

CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 19:45

And then sanitise?

WhyNotMe40 · 14/09/2020 19:51

My kids school are lucky enough to have a class set of ukuleles that they seem to be using. I'm not sure how they are sanitising them between bubbles though.

Saucery · 14/09/2020 19:51

Yes, should have said that. They are used by other classes so sanitised by teacher and TA. We’ve never been fans of recorders, although there is a box of them.
For ‘proper’ music parents can pay for an outside tutor to come in before school or lunchtime (guitar and keyboards), which I think is woeful tbh. LEA music service is a shadow of what it was when I was child. We got to try out brass, woodwind and strings for free and a heavily subsidised loan or buy the instrument, plus lessons that went from primary right through to secondary. Not relevant to current circumstances I know, but just me on my soapbox 🎺

Saucery · 14/09/2020 19:52

Tutors not currently coming in, of course. They switched to Zoom lessons in March for those who wanted to continue.

MrsHamlet · 14/09/2020 19:54

Hi Angelina
You can record from a visualiser... it was one of my lockdown discoveries!
We've been asked to set a week of standalone work for each year group so if it gets difficult and we need to send kids or staff home, we have instant work to send too. I'm just using stuff I would use anyway but chucking it in the class notebook where they can't see it unless I ping it out.

MrsHamlet · 14/09/2020 19:55

Our school music is awesome... our head of music looks like his world has ended since none of the lessons or bands can go ahead. It's so sad.

CallmeAngelina · 14/09/2020 19:56

It's going to be a dry old curriculum, isn't it? I've only clocked up 2 and a half days this term so far, when we were still doing "getting to know you colouring-in rubbish" nearly said shit but we need to knuckle down soon.

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2020 20:04

Angelina you need this t shirt in your life

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/09/2020 20:21

@CallmeAngelina - welcome back.

We have even had posts deleted within the Republic! I suspect U4T/DfE bods or Gav himself.

Is there a straw for the wine?
