You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

@phlebasconsidered

I only knew the child in my class was confirmed covid from the register.
Is there a special Covid positive code then?
MrsHamlet · 10/09/2020 19:05

X

motherrunner · 10/09/2020 19:07

Yes the X. Like what will be marked on your door when the plague hits.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/09/2020 19:08

Maybe they should have ofsted inspectors as substitute teachers this winter.

I have a feeling more substitutes will be needed.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 19:11

Ah...the X code was being used for ones awaiting test results.... Or that was what I was told!

motherrunner · 10/09/2020 19:13

I think it’s the same code, just means self isolating.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/09/2020 19:14

Ah...the X code was being used for ones awaiting test results

This is concerning. There are quite a few Xs on my registers. Only a matter of time. Sad

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 19:16

I think we should have been told as staff what the code refers to. I don't have much confidence in being informed if there is a positive case in school.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 19:21

I feel
Like this should be sent to phe dealing with schools and slt:

We've got a few off with bad tummies at the mo.

Augustbreeze · 10/09/2020 19:23

Oh my goodness have you seen all the decision trees/tables/diagrams put out by various schools and authorities to help parents understand the testing/isolating/quarantining rules?

Of the ones I've seen, it's impossible to make it simple enough for most to understand, but to also include all the (correct) info you need! Not anyone's fault, but they're going to need to launch a VERY well staffed 24/7 helpline for parents or something..... maybe it should be "world-beating"?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/09/2020 19:25

Haven’t been banned yet! Probably a u4t person looking for stuff to delete as we have been off message for too long - new tactic 😂

Meanwhile we have a couple of x in the sixth form registers which is interesting

We have around 500 kids in our school, 130 were off today. Lots of 'colds', 'flu' etc. I've not had any X codes on my register, but 5 off today.

I actually had a relatively normal day today. Kids did the work, all the lessons were on time, I marked the work within the school day... so no doubt tomorrow I'll have a positive test result in the class. Haha. Urgh.

Augustbreeze · 10/09/2020 19:26

Heard today of a quite senior, and not known for her optimism, member of staff today, saying there's no need to sort all these details out, we'll only have a few weeks of this carry on I think, then it'll be back to normal....

😨

Piggywaspushed · 10/09/2020 19:26

X code is a general catch all code so it doesn't get counted in absences. It is also for quarantines, for example.

Frlrlrubert · 10/09/2020 19:28

We have X for self isolating. I'm not sure we've had a positive case yet but a fair few awaiting results. We get comments on SIMs on the first day of the absence so we can have a nosy at why they are off/ill. Some have symptoms, some have been in contact with a confirmed positive.

Year 7 and 8 are going down with tummy bugs like flies. But I'm not sure it's not a bit psychosomatic. They see one go to medical and then start thinking they feel sick, anxiety has some very strange effects on the body.

Today I had a year 9 class all going to the loo (one in one out), definitely a case of 'monkey see, monkey do'. I bet if I'd said no to the first no one else would have needed the loo.

We have to let them go at the mo in case there was a queue at break, but it's becoming a bit of a farce.

MrsHamlet · 10/09/2020 19:29

Did you not all get the "sims fault" on the Wednesday of Bono's announcement? Every register for that day was X and it was blamed on a sims patch. Looks unlikely now...

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 19:35

Big Gav is being very silent....

No.... Did have a problem on Monday with registers not saving though and having to go back in and redo them.

Exactly what DH and I have been talking about today.
NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 19:36

In a dark way I'm looking forward to the phe report that shows the breakdown of settings tomorrow.

Cracklefraggle · 10/09/2020 19:45

At least we are being told about confirmed cases - all parents notified too on website. Everyone is being so careful but there is only so much we can do Sad

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/09/2020 20:06

Big Gav is being very silent....
Maybe he has realised that people just think he is a joke. May even think we will forgive for the balls up he has made - fat chance of that firegiveness ever happening!

ValancyRedfern · 10/09/2020 20:18

I imagine they'll be using X code for pretty much every absence this year as they won't want to penalise students for obeying the rules to stay off if they have symptoms they would normally be expected to come into school with.

phlebasconsidered · 10/09/2020 20:24

It was I for ill but said "confirmed covid" in notes, so you had to look!

phlebasconsidered · 10/09/2020 20:25

We don't use sims though. We use scholaroack.
