You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Have I missed something phlebas, you’ve got a kid off with confirmed covid in your class....but the bubble hasn’t been sent home?

ohthegoats · 10/09/2020 20:38

We use paper! Old skool.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 20:43

We were told in our all staff inset meeting that only close contacts would be told to self isolate - which would not include us teachers as obviously we will have kept 2m distance at all times.
So I don't think our bubbles will be sent home.

Elsa8 · 10/09/2020 20:46

I haven't been told this explicitly, but I figured X was just the code for anything potentially covid related so it's counted differently to usual absence, a couple of my foreign students who only arrived back in the country in the past week are down as X for quarantine. This may be totally wrong, but that seemed the most likely!

This has happened at ours. Only the 8 kids around them are isolating.
phlebasconsidered · 10/09/2020 20:48

He has it but he's not been in yet so bubble ok. Although his cousins from the same traveller site are in!
Our trust is now also saying it's ok to swap between classes for maths if we have a three class bubble. Why even fucking bother?

We have 2 cases different years. Only about 20 kids having to isolate no teachers. We have been in squashed corridors. I am worried.
Augustbreeze · 10/09/2020 20:50

@RigaBalsam and @WhyNotMe40 do you think it's because of variables like ventilation, room size, length of time etc, or just different health officials' approaches?

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 20:53

No idea. Maybe because we are in a low incidence area so they can be more conservative? Just a guess.
I have no idea if we have a confirmed case yet though, and if we do that what we have been advised will happen, will actually happen!
I hate being this clueless

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 20:55

Two of the rooms I'm teaching in have rubbish/little ventilation. One is quite good. The rest are middling.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 20:56

Do you think we will be told if there is a confirmed case?

MrsHamlet · 10/09/2020 20:56

I feel very cry-y tonight. No real reason. Just drained by it all. SLT tried to do a nice thing today but some staff mistook the gesture and it all feels too too much.

RigaBalsam · 10/09/2020 20:58
**@RigaBalsam* and @WhyNotMe40* do you think it's because of variables like ventilation, room size, length of time etc, or just different health officials' approaches?
I think it's because its just one case so not classed as an ' outbreak' yet.
Low area too.

RigaBalsam · 10/09/2020 20:59

@WhyNotMe40

Do you think we will be told if there is a confirmed case?
We have had a standard letter ( same as others I have seen) after both cases.
WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 21:04

@MrsHamlet very unmumsnetty hugs 🤗 Nearly the weekend....

@RigaBalsam hopefully that's standard procedure! Thanks

MrsDanvers123 · 10/09/2020 21:04

Have a neat gin and dilute it with your tears. I am just creased with tiredness Gin

MrsHamlet · 10/09/2020 21:05

There is gin. I'm trying to stay awake until bedtime to avoid being awake at 3am!

Keepdistance · 10/09/2020 21:06

The other schools look to be sending home all the bubble. Or at least thats what it is saying in newspapers

SaltyAndFresh · 10/09/2020 21:09

I feel very guilty for not having been in for two days and still no results for DS. At first I felt I was overreacting by pulling them out because he had a cough (it's a cold) then the head said they're not allowed back without a negative test ... I suspect that there are others with coughs but if parents don't admit it they're just going into school.

Then of course I'm not in front of my own classes and DD could very well have the same cough next week. It's a real no-win situation.

Kashtan · 10/09/2020 21:15

Quite a few Xs and others missing today.
Hand sanitizer is undoubtedly flammable but since atm we aren’t even allowed to do demos it’s irrelevant.
Other science teachers on here, what are your schools permitting please?
It all seems so inconsistent, food tech are cooking, pe are dipping balls in milton between lessons and we can’t even demo because anything has to be quarantined for 72 between different staff usage. 🤔

Kashtan · 10/09/2020 21:16

Anything and everything

TheHoneyBadger · 10/09/2020 21:18

Does anyone who uses Go know what the register code PD means? None of my colleagues seem to know and it’s not in the drop down code box.

I have students with that across the day as you would. I know the codes for isolating and covid related illness (whatever that means). Now worried it means positive diagnosis.

ohthegoats · 10/09/2020 21:26

What are primaries doing for 'remote learning' in the case of isolation?

We're definitely not providing work for children who are isolating while the rest of the class is in. If the teacher is in class, then they can't be asked to provide work. The end. Apparently.

Anyone planning on trying live lessons on Teams or whatever? For tiny kids?

WhyNotMe40 · 10/09/2020 21:28

We are only allowed to do demos for the year group that is zoned in the block that has the labs. No practicals and no other demos.
SaltyAndFresh · 10/09/2020 21:31

My DC's primary isn't providing work. I have set some for a quarantining year 10. There's no way I could justify setting nothing - there will be massive gaps in their knowledge of exam texts. I do object to having to do it for quarantining kids but it's no skin off my nose to make the lesson resources available on our online platform.
