You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

South London here and also approx 10/15 minute walk to work! Used to drive as dropped kids at childcare but walking now as DH wfh so will drop kids at school and I can leave super early and miss all the morning rush that used to fall mostly on me. Small mercies.

SaltyAndFresh · 01/09/2020 21:40

@Piggywaspushed

I can tell you are all tired . Wider MN is much less fighty tonight!

I think maybe all the TB are sorting out their back to school stuff or maybe printing off their letters to the head.

I saw Uhoh's faintly pleasant comment earlier and nearly expired with shock.
noblegiraffe · 01/09/2020 21:43

Was that when she then told me off for calling bellend posters bellendy?

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 21:46

Yeah pooie, I am a Helensburgh girl (or was) and that is included too.

Do people really spend that much time going in and out of each other's houses? No one locks their doors in the West of Scotland, mind...

I'm Glasgow Southside originally. We locked out doors there 😂
MrsHamlet · 01/09/2020 21:53

I'm not Northern.... I'm from the home of cheese rolling and doctor foster. I came up here to study and never left!

teacher45 · 01/09/2020 21:59

Hello! :) I'm a masters student in desperate need of responses from primary/secondary to my dissertation survey investigating teacher burnout. If you could spare a few minutes to complete my survey I would be so grateful! I'm sure you'd agree it's a very important area of research. I am such a softie southerner I'm even south of the big smoke :-) Nice beaches here though. Especially in winter when the tourists go home!

I am properly Northern. Only ever lived in Northumberland or Cumbria. It's as if I just love Scotland enough to want to live right next door but not quite enough to move over the border 😉

Ohthegoats I recognise those habits. That's what I do when I get stressed too (although not now, because diabetes), and it's so incredibly hard to change the habits of a lifetime. I'm sorry you've had a shitty day 💐 I hope tomorrow is better.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 22:07

Oh pooie, I then moved to Europe's largest council estate (West Glasgow) and we didn't lock our doors there either. South Glasgow is obviously where the suspicious types are.

tadjennyp · 01/09/2020 22:08

Well done all today's tributes. My commute will be twenty minutes. I also regularly see deer and birds of prey. Going in to meet my HoD to sort out our order tomorrow. Watching season 2 of the Bridge in denial of the end of summer.

monkeytennis97 · 01/09/2020 22:18

My stash for the department tomorrow... bring your own PPE (oh and anti bac washing up liquid, as I have no spare soap at home, for the staff loo).

The city has taken COVID as an opportunity to go ott on bike lanes and closing shorter residential routes, adding about 10 mins to my commute. Usually about 20-30 mins

Same for me neuro

To add insult to injury I only saw one cyclist the whole day. Cycling on the path next to the road that’s now coned off as a cycle lane.

I’m also in and from the North. Really don’t feel prepared for tomorrow at all.

Keepdistance · 01/09/2020 22:22

Dd back in tomorrow.
Nerves not made better by her friends mum saying friend has a cold.
Apparently at least 3/420 kids are awaiting test results. (Plus my friends kids separately having just cold symptoms) and thats only ones i know about. Presumably theyve been in holiday clubs.
I'll be lucky to make it a week without dc getting a cold but they get coughs after a few days. So surely lots of kids will be in for a few days with cold symptoms then get to the cough and have to test?

RigaBalsam · 01/09/2020 22:26

I am Northern but did live in Reading for 4 years. Did supply around the area and without fail at least once someone would say

' miss are you scottish? ' I don't sound Scottish at all or like ant and dec probably more Yorkshire if anything.

KingscoteStaff · 01/09/2020 22:30

Went in today and re-measured everything. All fine - my section at the front is definitely 2m from all children. But then thought - where does my TA stand? And my 1 to 1 TA? We all need to be 2m from the children AND EACH OTHER.

Caretaker says he has some of those rock climbing hold things left over from the bouldering wall in the playground, so could attach them to classroom wall?

Fossie · 01/09/2020 22:37

@noblegiraffe

For my maths teacher colleagues so they can share my pain:

Foundation kid. Algorithm 6. A-level Maths.

Good grief.
monkeytennis97 · 01/09/2020 22:37

Anyone else had an inset where the logistics of getting nearly 2000 kids moving around a school building in a bloody pandemic were touched on for about 10 minutes out of the whole day?

I saw you post on the other thread. It's disgraceful that you don't even have soap. So sorry.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 22:41

kingscote maybe a bit of light abseiling ?

monkeytennis97 · 01/09/2020 22:42

@pooiepooie25 thank you Thanks

SaltyAndFresh · 01/09/2020 22:43

Or, theatres are shut - we could borrow some harnesses and do some wire-flying. We could even use binoculars to check work. Still can't think of a solution to live-marking, but we're halfway there!

Yeah, one way system, it'll be fine. (Though we only have 800).

I was surprised we're still expected to greet them at the door (I'm totally wearing my mask for that!).
