You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Son passed by the skin of his teeth but they’re all passes. I dread to think what the algorithm would have done to him - large school, deprived area.

Some serious upgrading gone on in Spanish at my school but French and German remain untouched. Facebooks suggesting lots of upwards movement in MFL generally.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/08/2020 12:19

Why laughter at a 9 in RS?! Grin Honestly can’t understand why my school doesn’t run compulsory short course rs. The percentage of A*s I used to get was embarrassing.

Glad everyone has done ok. Should imagine I’d be relieved to see 5s and above for ds which is a shame when I think of how well he was achieving at primary. I should have dragged him off to an international in Saudi as i threatened to do.

Danglingmod · 20/08/2020 12:23

Well done Appu and Piggy junior and everyone whose students' grades have been put up by the algorithm 😁

We had a number put up, too, in numerous subjects, so that's a bit of a relief after harsh internal moderation.

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 12:24

Laughter becausecwecare not religious and he got a 9 in the one subject he did once a week!

He did enjoy it though!

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 12:29

That Michael Spicer is so funny!

I think it’s an ace predictor for how you’ll get on in uni and an advantage not to be religious. A lot of compare and contrast and use opinion sparingly but in a well reasoned way. Good transferable skills and much easier with no pre brainwashing in the way.

I did RE GCSE and remember having to memorise Mark’s Gospel. Honestly think it was more rigorous than the English exam on Romeo and Juliet. Jesus cursing the fig tree but the fig tree symbolising Israel and all that.

In other news, I’ve found the photo we’ve all be waiting for. No masks, but the girl in the middle is holding one.

Just seen that number if cases in Scotland is highest for 3 months. Just after schools have gone back. Now who could have predicted that I wonder

TheHoneyBadger · 20/08/2020 13:22

I did 2 terms in a Catholic school where the poor kids had to do marks gospel. Dull as ditch water. I like philosophy and ethics.

My attempt at buying a cheap visualiser is a fail. Focus is shite and it needs returning

RigaBalsam · 20/08/2020 13:30

This bollocks doesn't help

It must be a coincidence. Wink

Back home. No grade 3 and just a smattering of grade 4. Spanish teachers looked as delighted and as shocked as the boys who picked up those grades. One boy said these results count for nothing as I can always say that they were covid results.

Thank god we don't do BTECs - my sympathies to all those that do.

The future of the profession us proper buggered. Very recent survey if teenagers she's they all want funky ,socially active jobs, and they won't even consider future jobs that aren't flexible and where they can't WFH.This is largely influenced by current context, I'm sure. I feel old because I am tutting that top choice was influencer ( then reminded myself that not so long ago it was reality star and before that glamour model) and drone pilot, followed by video game and app designers and 3D modellers. The only 'conventional'job was vaccine researcher. They actively said they did not want to be doctors, accountants or teachers. We're all screwed. Do they attach too much risk to medicine now? The hero narrative backfired. DS1 said the left wing make doctors seem badly paid.

Wonder if any mumsnetters kids go here.

Danglingmod · 20/08/2020 14:58

Oh my goodness! That letter!

Ickabog · 20/08/2020 15:01

@Danglingmod

Oh my goodness! That letter!
It's shocking. I can't believe a school would send it, and as for this "Stay safe, mask up and stay classy" Shock
noblegiraffe · 20/08/2020 15:02

That head hasn’t done themselves any favours. Hogwarts!!

MrsHamlet · 20/08/2020 15:07

That's utterly bonkers!

Piggywaspushed · 20/08/2020 15:09

Not sure there are many MNers in Bletchley, tbh...
He sounds proper old school bonkers.

That said, it looks like Scotland is moving towards masks.

Oh wow. That headteacher has pulled no punches at all.
hedgehogger1 · 20/08/2020 15:35

I thought I'd tidy up my google drive as a year 13 emailed asking for basically every score she's ever had on anything. I cannot find my year 13 mark sheet at all. It was a separate document as shared with their other teacher

CallmeAngelina · 20/08/2020 15:46

I'm sure I've asked this before somewhere but it's on my mind still.
What can we do if children turn up in our classrooms and we have strong suspicions that they have just got off a plane and should be quarantining?
How many of us are confident that our schools will act upon it.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/08/2020 16:00

That kid would not be placing its arse on a chair in my class and would be immediately sent to SLT for questioning.

OP posts:
MrsHamlet · 20/08/2020 16:28

I'd have to summon SLT. That would take a while!!

cheesecurdsandgravy · 20/08/2020 16:29

shuffles in

Hello, sorry I’ve been absent. I had a bit of a mumsnet break because my MH was falling through the floor. Anyway, two weeks in to sertraline (this is a new adventure, I’ve been self managing for 20 years with exercise and hobbies that have been somewhat limited during 2020!) I’m beginning to feel a bit more human. Today seems a good day to come back, results, moving forward and all that.

I’m hopeful that this means we can all (well, those of us not in Scotland who have bravely gone before) have a week’s breathing space before whatever September brings.

Are there any Jammu Dodgers left?
