You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

I can't recall where I read that about the algorithm but like in proper education press. It was after the education select committee because the comments there were based on trial runs.

In fact, I read the GCSE one hadn't even been done yet at some point last week!

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2020 09:28

Parents need to divide their annoyance at insufficient lockdown learning off as a separate argument with their school. The DfE (bless me) has actually sort of addressed that , so if we went blended that would have to change. It's not a relevant argument to epidemiology!

One parent eventually twigged yesterday that the 'great summer of catch up' hadn't happened Grin

Danglingmod · 19/08/2020 09:28

Thanks, Noble. That's just the encouragement I needed Grin

ChloeDecker · 19/08/2020 09:33

New thread on transport to school. Some parents have only just twigged their kids are going to be rammed on buses with kids all going to different schools and why haven't more buses been put on?

It’s like we’ve been talking to a brick wall, all of this time!

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2020 09:36

I must admit to concern that I have heard nothing from DS's school about his shuttle bus which we are supposed to pay for (controversial...)

Hercwasonaroll · 19/08/2020 09:43

Covid is spread by fun and there isn’t any of that going on in my classroom.
Printing that for my wall.

We're going to 2 hour lessons, sibling suggested I used a game to fill the last half hour. I may have gone off on a minor rant about games being shit for learning.

Hercwasonaroll · 19/08/2020 09:43

Piggy was that the same parent who expected the unions to be sorting out the catch up Hmm

motherrunner · 19/08/2020 09:45

Brilliant 😂 Mine too. In fact my classroom is so gloom that all forms of life wither and die in front of me.

On a selfish note I’m happy as my kids’ wraparound is running.

Trying not to think about tomorrow. Have to be in for 8, will be home by lunch in what state I don’t know!

Iamnotthe1 · 19/08/2020 09:56

@noblegiraffe

Where did you see that it had only been run recently? That’s mad.

Us4Them are trying really hard to seem reasonable on the ‘schools safe to re-open’ thread. Bless them, it leaves them with nothing to say.

I think that's because the posters debating them are parents and not teachers. Very interesting.
Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2020 09:58

It was herc. That made me LOL, as they say!

Saucery · 19/08/2020 09:59

@Danglingmod

Throughout the summer, I've seen absolutely dozens of schools advertising for cleaners. I'd like to think these are extra roles but, knowing that there is no money for this, I'm more inclined to believe it's turnover of staff. It will be absolutely dreadful if they can't recruit replacements.
I’ve seen this too. One specified it was an extra post and mentioned Covid19.

A specialist school has advertised for 5 TAs. This is a role where contact is unavoidable and hazardous due to bodily fluids. I don’t know whether that is Ta staff resigning in advance of Sept. Recruitment is pretty static there - I’ve kept an eye on it for several years as I was interested at one time in moving into that role full time, specialist provision. So that many jobs all at once is unusual.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/08/2020 10:17

@Hercwasonaroll we used to teach 100 min lessons as standard and changed back a few years ago. Initially it was to stop poor behaviour between lessons which tbf at the time was totally needed. There were a couple of lessons that were still 50 mins but the changeover chaos was solved. I half hoped we would go back to it this year but don’t think we are... although we have no clue yet what going back entails.

I actually quite liked the longer lessons - I mean you had to plan to within an inch of your life and when it went wrong it was a loooooong time to that bell but actually most of the time got to teach in depth and stuff seemed to stick well for us in Maths. I’d be happy to go back to it again.

minisoksmakehardwork · 19/08/2020 10:23

Ooh! My school's risk assessment has arrived today. It will be interesting to see what it says as we had a scout group meeting the other day to discuss the RA to the group returning to face to face meetings.

Bearing in mind most believed that the scout RA was based on schools RA, even when we meet F2F the members will only be meeting outside initially, will still be SD, have to follow the rules or parents called to collect and will have to bring a face covering... (would love to know which school this was based on).

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2020 10:28

Just reading the comments underneath the Gruaniad article. Lots of posters actually picking it apart. the UsForThem mob stick out a mile. Do they not realise their lexical field is so easily spotted? Or is that the plan. Don't listen. Deflect. repeat. repeat. repeat.

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2020 10:31

Interesting to see how exactly what I predicted is happening. Make the (non) exams a shitshow and everyone becomes desperate to get kids back to school , sitting those oh so reliable exams...

Hercwasonaroll · 19/08/2020 10:33

@MrsHerculePoirot I did 110 mins in my NQT year and didn't enjoy them. However on reflection that's probably because I was shit 😂

They seem far less daunting now. They also need to be productive, not just faff time on games etc. I'm worried our dept may resort to this.

Absolutely! We have kept on with the same message. What gets me are the posters who say we never said that ... well yes, you bloody well did and now reality has finally struck home the light bulb has switched on history is being rewritten.

And as for the poster yesterday who said she joined U4T - crazy! It is like the equivalent of farting very loudly during a written exam in my opinion.

Iamnotthe1 · 19/08/2020 10:41

Could you imagine if there had been social media during WW2? U4T campaigning against evacuation or gas masks.

WhyNotMe40 · 19/08/2020 10:48

It's like the kids who say "but you never told me the homework was due" or "you never said there was going to be a test"... When you have actual evidence they were told in a variety of ways...

Appuskidu · 19/08/2020 11:01

So do we now know what results the y11 are getting tomorrow? Is it just the CAGs or will they end up with two sets of grades at some point?

MrsHamlet · 19/08/2020 11:01

"That's right... I told everyone else in the class apart from you, Fred"

Is anyone on here still brave enough to be on the Twats For Themselves Facebook? Was there a Call To Arms to put Snape's research on MN??

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2020 11:08

appu apparently they will get 'proper' results.

Only the school will be able to figure out where the changes are against CAGs, not parents, which I find annoying as a parent!

I don't think anyone is ever going to get access to the complete moderated grades.
