You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

This was the DfE response to a question about other years

Hi, schools can now operate if they are organised in a way that is compatible with minimising the spread of the virus. The next phase of measures will require the development of new safety standards to set out how physical spaces, including schools, can be adapted to operate safely. We will publish guidance advising schools on wider opening to ensure schools can adequately prepare for the next phase. One of the main protective measures we can take to reduce transmission is to have small consistent group and class sizes.
Our ambition is to bring all primary year groups back to school before the summer holidays, for a month if feasible, though this will be kept under review. We will only welcome back additional year groups if the most up-to-date assessment of the risk posed by the virus indicates it is appropriate to have larger numbers of children within schools. The safety of children and staff is our utmost priority.

I feel like the ‘up-to-date assessment’ of the risk will show it’s fine to have ‘larger’ numbers back. Probably in larger groups.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2020 11:51

I think schools will be using their own judgement (and integrity) to decide whether bringing back additional Year groups before the summer holidays will be feasible

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/05/2020 11:53

It's a complete balls up.

Apparently there's an announcement re track and trace later today, but new stories around it indicate its being piloted in a new areas rather than the whole country.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/05/2020 11:54

ineed yes and a huge number of councils have either said it's not happening till the 8th, as well as allowing school discretion around how many year groups.

CallmeAngelina · 27/05/2020 12:09

Oddsbodkins, Why did you have to remove wall displays?

TheHoneyBadger · 27/05/2020 13:30

I really can’t imagine drivers turning off the engine, getting out and stepping back whilst kids get off, then getting back in and restarting at every stop. Surely they can just be safely behind a screen and the kids can be made to wear masks.

Though none of that will be happening in school.

My old head was obsessed with us standing in the doorway as the class entered (and somehow putting up a starter task and lo at the same time). That won’t be happening now

tadjennyp · 27/05/2020 14:40

This being between schools this week is such a bonus. I am counting myself really lucky to be having a rest. And to not be nagging my own children to work. Imagine how shattered we will all be if we have to work all through summer. Shock

flumposie · 27/05/2020 15:16

Work through summerShock That is the hill I will die onGrin. ( apart from the usual updating resources)

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/05/2020 15:27

I won't be working through the summer

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/05/2020 15:29

I don't know who will be enforcing social distancing in the corridors on the way to my classroom. I can't do that AND be cordoned off at the front of the room. The door to my classroom is at the back, so I'll need to be the first into the room and the last out.

IHateCoronavirus · 27/05/2020 15:32

How on Earth they will afford to pay us all for the summer? I am guessing it would have to be something we opt into? What about our own children? Shock

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 27/05/2020 15:50

I am definitely not working during summer holidays. Headteacher now mentions it in every briefing as we have provided full online lessons everyday and extracurricular stuff.

I would do it in exchange for half a term off in autumn but that’s not going to happen.

Going to watch the clown face the liaison committee now. Will try not to get angry

FrippEnos · 27/05/2020 16:11

I suspect our HT will start dropping hints for volunteers fairly soon.

Appuskidu · 27/05/2020 16:14

Is this hypothetical opening over the summer for primary, secondary or both?

I presume it’s paid?!

FrippEnos · 27/05/2020 16:20

It keeps popping up under "schools", so the same ambiguous nature as everything else. it was just said that it would be for "disadvantaged" pupils to catch up.

Being paid comes under the same ambiguity.

Mistressiggi · 27/05/2020 16:24

Childcare for key workers over the summer won't be something for teachers to do.
Anyone know how many times I'd have to swear at a poster(s) before getting banned? It might do me some good! I've been flat out today and reading another "I'm doing your job for you" from a parent is making me see red.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 27/05/2020 16:53

Well just think about all those lockdown stories that we will get from the students😂

Miss - My mum said that you just sat on your fat fucking arse
Miss - we went to Durham for an eye test
Miss - my dad says you are a crap teacher
Miss - my mum says you should be sacked

You get the drift .... time moves on
Miss - why has Giles moved down a set I know he is struggling with .. but ..
Miss - why wasn’t Angelica picked for xyz
Miss- is there any chance that you can give extra tutoring / reference

Me, at parents evening, starting point
I just want to discuss my fat fucking arse ..

Revenge is a dish best eaten cold.

Useruseruserusee · 27/05/2020 17:17

That education committee man really has a bee in his bonnet about summer opening.

Slightly concerned about it as I’m SLT and therefore my contract is different re holidays. If they use school sites I can well imagine we won’t have a choice.

Piggywaspushed · 27/05/2020 17:21

He's quite local to me. He reminds me if my assistant head. Desperate for the big boys to notice him.

He did ask a good question about safety though

starrynight19 · 27/05/2020 17:21

Unbelievable our council have now advised it’s not safe and are recommending schools not to return on Monday Confused

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/05/2020 17:26

That's rather late in the day starry surely they should have said that at least before the end of last week.

Appuskidu · 27/05/2020 17:29

Whereabouts in the country are you, @starrynight19?

I wish mine would say that.

starrynight19 · 27/05/2020 17:31

Lancashire , exactly we have been in school this week getting all the classrooms ready.
I’m glad though as my very local school is closed as a member of staff got tested positive with just keyworker children in.
