You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

He says ' is managed'.

The last test definitely has changed .

TheHoneyBadger · 25/05/2020 14:09

Now even the ppe bit is weasel worded.

Honestly I think they just want the hospitals close to full again by late summer and through early autumn to get another wave out of the way before flu season. You don’t open community hubs for transmission if you don’t want community transmission.

Looking like only 5-10% of population has been infected so far. Way too low for plan a.

FlowersAreBeautiful · 25/05/2020 14:10

@piggy seven commandments
They did this at the start in March with the five statements they had to meet to begin lifting lockdown. I can't remember exactly what it was but the last one they added a caveat later on about not overwhelming the NHS and watered it down a bit

Appuskidu · 25/05/2020 14:12

So is there not a copy of their original 5 tests out there somewhere?

cantkeepawayforever · 25/05/2020 14:26

The text of Boris's original TV statement is:
from here

"We must protect our NHS.

We must see sustained falls in the death rate.

We must see sustained and considerable falls in the rate of infection.

We must sort out our challenges in getting enough PPE to the people who need it, and yes, it is a global problem but we must fix it.

And last, we must make sure that any measures we take do not force the reproduction rate of the disease - the R - back up over one, so that we have the kind of exponential growth we were facing a few weeks ago."

cantkeepawayforever · 25/05/2020 14:31

Compared with:
"1. Protect the NHS’s ability to cope. We must be confident that we are able to provide sufficient critical care and specialist treatment right across the UK.
Similar

  1. See a sustained and consistent fall in the daily death rates from COVID-19 so we are confident that we have moved beyond the peak
Similar
  1. Reliable data from SAGE showing that the rate of infection is decreasing to manageable levels across the board
Significantly different - sustained and considerable fall is NOT the same as manageable levels
  1. Be confident that the range of operational challenges, including testing capacity and PPE, are in hand, with supply able to meet future demand
Significantly different - in hand is not the same as sorted
  1. Be confident that any adjustments to the current measures will not risk a second peak of infections that overwhelms the NHS
Critically different - rather tjhan R remaining below 1, so no rise at all, there can now be a second peak as long as it doesn't overwhelm the NHS

Basically, the ones we have met are kept similar./ rthe ones we were in danger of not meeting have been changed. The one that really matters (keeping R below 1) has been removed.

EducatingArti · 25/05/2020 14:32

What about this bit of his speech then?
"And to keep pushing the number of infections down there are two more things we must do.
We must reverse rapidly the awful epidemics in care homes and in the NHS, and though the numbers are coming down sharply now, there is plainly much more to be done.
And if we are to control this virus, then we must have a world-beating system for testing potential victims, and for tracing their contacts."
Is that part of the 5 tests? It seems like it, but it isn't totally clear ( like most of his speech)

EducatingArti · 25/05/2020 14:33

Someone needs to call him out on this!

Appuskidu · 25/05/2020 14:34

Please tweet that to the NEU!!

TheHoneyBadger · 25/05/2020 14:55

Right I have to go to the coop for coffee. If I come back with salted caramel cake I’m blaming you buggers for sabotaging my diet!

cantkeepawayforever · 25/05/2020 14:56

Appu, not my union, and I don't 'Do' Twitter. You are very welcome to copy and paste it as you wish.

EducatingArti · 25/05/2020 15:00

Can't. I've just emailed The Guardian about your excellent summary of the changes to the 5 tests! Don't know whether they will pick up on it but we can only try!

cantkeepawayforever · 25/05/2020 15:02

I can only hope that you sorted out the typos! Smile

EducatingArti · 25/05/2020 15:06

Nah, thought they'd appeal particularly to The Guardian!

StrawberryJam200 · 25/05/2020 15:07

Fab work all!

Appuskidu · 25/05/2020 15:07

Interesting to see Gav day that the part of the plan of having the rest of primary back before the summer is now ‘under review’.

The Seventh Republic - the debate rages on but for some it is half term!
Appuskidu · 25/05/2020 15:08

Gav say, not day.

StrawberryJam200 · 25/05/2020 15:16

Oh @Appuskidu I just came here to post exactly the same text, great minds and all that.....

ChloeDecker · 25/05/2020 16:45

And something fun for you all to read, released on a Bank Holiday!

www.gov.uk/government/publications/preparing-for-the-wider-opening-of-schools-from-1-june/planning-guide-for-secondary-schools

cantkeepawayforever · 25/05/2020 16:56

Knew that would happen.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 17:20

During the effing big press conference as predicted yesterday by me chloe...

Bastards.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 17:22

Sorry but how the fuck does the DfE know how big 1/4 of a year group is??!

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 17:25

Looks like they are happy with us mixing groups then, thereby increasing social contacts... just so long as we don't have the temerity to do half days...

I am going to have to read this properly later but it all seems extremely vague!

cantkeepawayforever · 25/05/2020 17:30

At least you are being allowed to social distance....

RigaBalsam · 25/05/2020 17:31

We had half day rotas 30 in at each time. Will see if it changes.
