At the moment I am doing (as instructed) everything via showmyhomework and email. But I've had a heads up that it is about to change and we will need to provide lesson videos. (Currently link to oak national academy or BBC Bitesize lessons where appropriate)

I am a bit of a technophobe although I do try, and I'm very nervous about recording lessons.

Please help me out a bit and tell me what works for you?

Ideally I want to be able to video PowerPoints playing with my voiceover and somehow scribble extra notes? I don't want them to see me, and it needs to be prerecorded as my small children will not cooperate with live lessons.

I have a pretty ancient laptop with a touchpad which has Linux not windows (blame my brother who's laptop it was originally) I do not have a visualiser. Could possibly find a mouse from somewhere.. we use office 365 at school that I can log into from home.

Can anyone help me? Thanks Flowers

Anytime. I had a whole Chen team to work with to figure it all out. Good luck

MadameMinimes · 17/05/2020 19:24

If you have stream in office 365 you can do it using the method that I posted upthread. Go to stream and use the record screen function to record yourself talking over the PowerPoint. Then upload it and share the link with students. They will be able to access it if they log in to office 355.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 17/05/2020 20:45

Madame does stream work in the browser? I tried it after your earlier post and it didn't work, clicked on record and it did nothing. Gone back to using screencastify

MadameMinimes · 17/05/2020 21:22

It does for me. I use it from within my browser and get an option for whole screen, application window or browser tab when I click it. Could it be the browser? I’ve used it in chrome.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 17/05/2020 21:26

Ah maybe I'll try tomorrow with Chrome Smile

Setting up the meeting so only you can present

  1. Create the meeting in your calendar by clicking on the timeslot, then typing the name of the lesson and adding the appropriate channel (I saw your channels aren't yet set up, but these should be your teaching classes and IT support should set them up. It took about 10 days to set up all of our classes over Easter).
  1. Save the meeting, then click on it in your calendar, to open it up again
  1. When the meeting opens, you'll see a "meeting options" tab at the top. Click on this. It'll take you to a browser, it's all a bit clunky!

(Step 4 to follow in next post)

  1. When the browser window opens (you might need to sign on the first time), select "only me" under "Who Can Present?"

I have set up my fortnight's worth of lessons as a series, so that they recur at the same time every fortnight. But this makes the chat function more unwieldy as everything gets collected under the same chat thread.

School laptops? School laptops?

What are these? I know they used to be a thing about 15 years ago. These days, don't we all just provide all our own tech?? Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 22:51

I cannot see meeting options - it just does not exist. There is also No record option - stream tells me I have to set teams up before I can do anything, but it's also not letting me set up teams.
I think I just don't have any permissions to do anything other than set calendar reminders for myself and other people. Can't even video meet - it literally just goes "bing" when the meeting time happens then nothing.
Ah well, I've tried. Will have to see what out IT support guys are cooking up this week - it's supposed to be happening after half term so there's time!

Thanks to everyone who helped Flowers

It won't until you add a channel or some attendees, WhyNot. Are you able to add individual colleagues in the absence of a team channel? I set up a couple of meetings with colleagues in the early days before our channels were created, and the meeting options appears on those appointments.

Rainuntilseptember · 17/05/2020 23:03

I got a lesson from one of dc's teachers which is a stream video - can't open it, I tap and tap and it doesn't respond. Do I need a stream app? Teacher hasn't said. I think I will stick to PowerPoints myself!

DreamingofBrie · 17/05/2020 23:06

I think if you're not included in that particular Team channel there might be viewing restrictions. My colleague couldn't view one of my lessons until I'd downloaded it and sent it to her as an MP4.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 23:09

we still have school laptops at my place dangling. We have absolutely no other tech though. They are a double edged sword , though, because everything is blocked and you can't add programmes.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 23:18

Just read that every single cabinet member with school aged kids privately educates them.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 23:18

Oops : wrong thread! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 23:19

Hi btw dangling!

Danglingmod · 17/05/2020 23:32

Hi Piggy!

pfrench · 18/05/2020 15:05

You shock and surprise me. Are their kids going back to school?

Danglingmod · 18/05/2020 15:18

I thought Gove's daughter was at Grey Coats... Or was that a million years ago and she's at Uni now?

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 18/05/2020 15:19

Thanks Madame, it worked in Chrome, maybe it's time I stopped using an outdated browser :)

Love the fact that you can embed the quiz questions.

Now my only problem will be getting the little darlings to actually watch my carefully crafted videos :)

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 15:32

I am guessing not p

Danglingmod · 18/05/2020 16:01

Yeah, both Gove's kids at state schools (v v good ones, obviously).

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 16:12

I thought so too but the paper said otherwise.

MadameMinimes · 18/05/2020 16:23

I love the quiz feature too. Getting them all to watch it is always the snag in an otherwise perfect plan, Bea. Grin
