Effing Jojo bows... (lighthearted, let's share all the fads we've hated)

Tell me I'm not alone in despising them? I think they look so bloody ridiculous. At my school the really big ones are banned but the smaller ones slide under the radar. I genuinely don't understand why they're so popular, they're so stupid.

LOL Surprise Dolls!!! What is the attraction!!?

I'm not sure if this one is country specific, but Squishees!!!!! WHY!?

FIDGET SPINNERS.

For the record, no, I'm not green and I have never once stolen a major holiday or any part thereof Grin and there were a ton of fads that I participated in wholeheartedly as a kid that I would probably think unbearably stupid if they came around now. It's the perspective of a teacher who has a class to run that has tainted some of it for me. If I had a nickel for every bicker-fight I've broken up over BLOODY FIDGET SPINNERS... well, I wouldn't need to teach!

Share some of your own, please? Make me feel like I'm not alone lol.

Loom bands and moshie monsters

Littlelambpeep · 09/05/2018 23:09

I don't mind a smart navy smaller bow at all (but then I had the fergie bows back in the day Grin

noblegiraffe · 09/05/2018 23:09

Bottle flipping is the worst. The noise DRIVES ME INSANE.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 09/05/2018 23:12

Slime!

LinoleumBlownapart · 09/05/2018 23:18

Bloody slime

Cati482 · 09/05/2018 23:27

The ‘floss’ Stupidest bloody dance I’ve ever seen. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve had to tell them to stop.

Fidget spinners (arrggh!)

And Pokemon cards! Wanting to tell me the names, stats etc and then the drama when their friend won’t share!

BringOnTheScience · 09/05/2018 23:30

Dabbing
Just... Why????

Talith · 09/05/2018 23:31

I'm glad dabbing is on the way out. Loom bands were a pain in the arse and environmentally awful. I think we are on to putty here? I used to absolutely bloody love silly putty come to think of it. But you could do all sorts with that. Modern stuff is just squishy.

cindersrella · 10/05/2018 00:26

The FLOSS and they want us to learn how to do it too! WTF... my hips haven't moved like that since I was 10

cindersrella · 10/05/2018 00:27

I hate slime too!

CocoLoco87 · 10/05/2018 08:05

It was yoyos when i was at school. But as a teacher the worst has been loom bands! I left teaching just as fidget spinners were coming in.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 10/05/2018 17:40

I started supply recently and was doing cover in a high school last week. At least one child in ever class asked me "Miss, do you play Fortnite?"
I had to google it at breaktime!

TheTroutofNoCraic · 10/05/2018 17:40

*every

PurplePhotoFrame · 10/05/2018 17:45

The bows make me laugh. They're harmless.

Flossing is my current nemesis Angry

RebelRogue · 10/05/2018 17:54

The floss. How do they do it?!?

Dabbing...thankfully it's mostly gone now.

Putty/fidget spinners/fidget cubes fidget/calming fucking everything.(replaced by blu tac, fluff on the carpet, paperclips etc when removed).

Slime

Oh and the overuse of the worry box/bullying.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 10/05/2018 18:01

Scoobies were they called? I taught some children who fell out about those.

Marbles. Rows over the games.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 10/05/2018 18:02

No help on the modern trends, but just to bring in the misty nostalgia for crazes gone, in my day it was Pogs and earlier than that, space hoppers, but the ones that were an inflatable ball with a saturn ring of plastic round the outside......injuries galore!

Ski40 · 10/05/2018 18:08

That obnoxious green alien dancing to this "dame tu cosita" song. The song is atrocious, the woman's sex noises are embarrassing and the hoards of silly girls copying the ridiculous dance on Instagram make my blood boil. Worst thing since the fucking Macarena and the Saturday Night routines, back in my time. Yuk.

MaisyPops · 11/05/2018 07:36

The weird 'cluck/click' sound (can't type it) which is apparently taken from reality TV somewhere. Apparently it's the new way to end a sentence.

BettyBettyBetty · 11/05/2018 15:49

The bows don't bother me at all, at least they don't trade them!

For me it's SLIME. Urghhhhhh

BettyBettyBetty · 11/05/2018 15:49

And yy to the poster who said about bloody Pokemon cards.

Linzeyhun · 11/05/2018 16:30

Bottle flipping drives me insane.

piebarm · 11/05/2018 19:33

The bloody gummy bear song

m.youtube.com/watch?v=astISOttCQ0

Sigh

RavenWings · 11/05/2018 19:37

Fidget spinners. And I remember when they came in some people were hailing them as a revelation, everyone would concentrate so much better, an absolute right for a child to have in school - and now no sight or sign of them Grin

I have a total ban on slime in my class, and they stick to it. I must've looked fierce that day I guess.

RainbowFairiesHaveNoPlot · 11/05/2018 19:51

Every time I see a tweenage kid bottle flipping I rejoice in the fact my (better be bloody) temporary hiatus from teaching has coincided with missing that particular fad because it is SO FUCKING IRRITATING!

I can deal with fidget spinners, slime, bows large enough to pick up Sky telly... but the constant splooshy thunk of a bottle being flipped would break me I swear.

One of my two has various SEN and does have a fidget toy to help her sit still on the carpet which I send in and has been carefully selected to be one of about three that she's got with absolutely bare minimal pissing off teachers ability to it.

Match Attax(?) were the pain in the arse annoying me for ages... the bloody bickering over who had a Shiny Mega Wayne Rooney's Left Arsecheek or whatever it was.

To whoever mentioned the Fortnite one. I had a wonderfully condescending year 5 once go into full on mini-mansplaining mode about a picture in his book and how "this is an Xbox360 Miss, but you won't know what one of them is will you?" The reply along the lines of "yep I've got one, and a PS3, PS2, original Xbox and PSP" had his mind blown and stunned silence for a good few minutes!
