Anybody else struggling? Friday can't come quick enough even though I love teaching. The classroom computer is playing up, everybody is tired and nobody seems to have any resilience at the moment as we're all going down with bugs :-(

Who thought a trip on the last day would be a good idea?! Surely you let them watch videos do carefully chosen consolidation activities while you tidy the huge amounts of paper that gather around the classroom all year and countdown the minutes until home time!

user1498911470 · 17/07/2017 21:40

Somebody who doesn't work on Fridays and therefore doesn't have to go Hmm...

Early Years teacher here...anyone else's class just constantly tearful, and complaining about everything? They're too tired! A 7 week summer term is too much for little ones for sure and also me

MarjorieFrangipani · 17/07/2017 21:44

I can cheer you up...we have to work until next Tuesday

ninnypoo · 17/07/2017 22:25

@mangomay yep! Trip tomorrow with 8 parents coming as well so already preparing myself for all the hysteria that will follow once the parents leave...

I've lost count of how many times I've said "is this a problem you can solve by yourself today?" I don't need to be told whined at every time someone drops a glue stick on the floor!

user1498911470 · 17/07/2017 22:27

@Mangomay - yes, with bells on
@MarjorieFrangipani Flowers or would you rather go straight for the Gin

Ugh ninnypoo I'm with you. I actually had this last week "Mrs maaangooooo. T said her shoes are more pinker than mine but mine are really pink toooooo. Can you tell her mine are pink tooo and hers aren't more pinker?"

Bobbiepin · 17/07/2017 22:35

God at least with primary kids you expect them to act like children. My year 10s are driving me mental!

KentMum2008 · 17/07/2017 22:37

Bobbie I did a stint as an exam invigilator and my experience as an early Years teacher gave me plenty of ways to deal with surly, hormonal teenagers. Apart from physical size, there's really not much difference is there? Grin

Redbushforme · 17/07/2017 22:40

We don't finish until next Wednesday ... sigh

user1498911470 · 18/07/2017 07:13

one less get up....this last year has been the most stressful since i started teaching, I'm not at all sure that I want to go back in September but it's too late now to do anything about that and it's not a viable option either.

Me! Totally shattered, kids are tired but hyper and the projector bulb has gone Sad

Friday can't come quick enough! Two and a half days!

MirandaWest · 18/07/2017 16:47

My DCs schools don't finish until 26th. Two years ago it was the 17th. I feel sorry for the teachers who must be worn out

Acopyofacopy · 18/07/2017 17:58

Had a mini meltdown in the staff room today when I realised that today was not Wednesday Sad
At least my Years 9+ are apathetic and quiet. It's the completely ott hyper antsy Year 7 and 8s that are doing my head in. When and why exactly did shouting "just shut the fuck up!!!!" become unacceptable?

Bobbiepin · 18/07/2017 20:05

@mango you're right, thankfully the older ones come with considerably less snot!

I have half a day left tomorrow and I am mentally and physically exhausted. I even asked DH if he minded if I took mat leave earlier than planned because I just don't know how I'll cope with 5 weeks back in September when I'm heavily pregnant.

user1498911470 · 18/07/2017 20:06

2 1/2 days that feel like 2 1/2 years! I'm ready for bed but my DCs aren't

Pumpkin Pie - projector bulb gone. I feel your pain!

user1498911470 · 19/07/2017 14:06

Puffins yes - had the year 6 leaver's assembly this morning so now it feels like Friday Hmm

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/07/2017 20:38

Jennielou - I have that same t shirt. I'm wearing it to school tomorrow!

Bobbiepin · 19/07/2017 20:52

We finished today. Mass redundancies and some very good friends left today. I'm exhausted and emotionally empty. To be honest I wish we were back tomorrow.

KentMum2008 · 19/07/2017 21:25

Bobbiepin I teach in a pre-school which is separate from the local school, but I know a lot of teachers there have been made redundant this year. They were lucky enough to have the space for 3 classes of 20 in each year, although realistically most classes had between 15-18 children. From September all year groups apart from reception will have 2 classes so one teacher from each year has been made redundant. The letter we received made it very clear this was due to funding, it's just so sad.
