You're at the wrong school. There are still some out there (mine included) with their hearts in the right place. Flowers to you.

I hear you! And my school is fairly supportive but it's just crazy at the moment - lots of people on long term sick/lots of irregular supply, pressure increasing because of the exams coming up and seemingly constant scrutiny.

I am completely exhausted and broke down on a colleague the other day Blush thankfully she was very supportive bless her!

I am putting it down to time of year and needing a decent break!

I just hope things improve soon.

I'm so pleased to have stumbled on this thread. After teaching primary for over 30 years, I NEED to get out from my once-loved profession. I teach pt but feel overwhelmed with targets, new initiatives and poor pupil behaviour. I will be updating my CV at Easter and starting to look for jobs outside education. I need to work financially and hope to find work in a local supermarket/shop which will give me back some self-confidence whilst I consider my future prospects. I feel utterly wretched.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I've taught for 20 years and it's becoming intolerable. I wish I could leave teaching but sadly I'm divorced and have a mortgage to pay and a child to support. Also, I'm on UPS and I just can't afford to do anything else. This profession has destroyed me. My friend, also on UP, has just been bullied out of the job because she's deemed too expensive. Before being put on capability she handed her notice in and is now looking to do supply. It's such a sad state of affairs. I feel physically ill at the thought of going in each day.

These posts make me so sad. Just last night I was at a dance festival for some of the schools in our town and I was saying then what a fabulous job teachers do and how much time outside of the 9-5 they do.

Please don't ever think teaching is a waste of space/time...I can't ever put into words how invaluable you are and I'm sure I speak for others when I say you ARE appreciated.

Another non-teacher giving support Flowers although I'm a TA so see what you guys do every day. It's relentless. People always ask when I'm going to train as a teacher - not going to happen whilst it is the way it is now. I love my job, I love working with the kids, and I can live on the low pay. Another option to supply (if you can afford it)

Badders123 · 23/03/2017 07:20

Can I just say...
I'm sorry 😞
Teachers do such an amazing job (most of them!) and I am so grateful for the efforts of my sons teachers

Dare I say, look for a job in an independent school? Mind you, there can be stress there too, but a different kind, and more manageable in my experience. I managed 35 years, anyway. (Retired now.)

I'm about to post on the detention thread too, so you might want to have a look at that.

startwig1982 · 23/03/2017 18:06

I hate my fucking job too.
Live the kids and my department(some of them) but SLT are jobsworths and idiots.

Plus I found out today that my bestie at school has a new job. Gutted doesn't quite cover it.

Plus my line manager is a fuckwit.
