Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why H was wearing that order thingy around his neck AND the medals on his chest.

I thought the wearing of medals was usually reserved for state, (actual) military, and/or 'official type' functions. Or when attending a function in uniform.

I think miniatures (of medals) can be worn at certain black tie and similar events.

You'd probably need to see a copy of the invite to know if H was improperly dressed or not.

Despite the Irish Guards being at the Invictus shindig there’s no mention of the event in any of the papers I’ve had a look at.

I think that sums things up very nicely.

Harry is being rather overshadowed by his Uncle at the moment. The working royals can keep their heads down and carry on but Harry doesn't really have the longevity they have, this is the time he needs to make a mark if he is to pick up more charities.

Once again his timing is terrible, trying to launch himself back here and raise the profile of Invictus whilst Uncle Money-grab is getting all the headlines. The book also means that any documentary Harry does, if he was planning one at all, is going to inevitably be less sensational after the book. The only positive I can see is that Charles S is showing himself more embittered and with an even less accurate memory for facts than Harry had in Spare.

Taking refuge back here from the Great Influx of H+M defenders all over the place. Someone asserting that W+H were at school when Diana died has tipped me over the edge. Along with the news that Harry’s drug problem isn’t such a big deal, it was just a bit of weed while he was at university.

Feels a bit weird with the Spencer book going all out for KC3 in the most bizarre way, plus Harry’s very odd and very swift return, and an obviously coordinated campaign on here. Now my sleep deprived brain is imagining all sorts with Harry’s shady billionaire backers, yet more attacks on the judiciary and now getting the army on side, it all feels a bit GoT 🐉🤪

I don't think it's a big conspiracy personally. It's just a man in need of money selling the only thing he can sell, his sister. From the comments I'm seeing the majority don't seem to be buying it though.

I did see something though that made me think, a comment on a news site that pointed out that Diana's sisters might be equally hurt by the book. What a mess Charles S is making and for what? He isn't setting the record straight, just adding more unprovable gossip.

The oddest claim is that Harry went to university.
Well, I hope Harry is proud of himself - someone who had wealth, privilege, status and could have made a real difference with his life, reduced to trashing the RF.
Ditto Charles Spencer.

Yes, it's very doubtful that his sisters are at all happy about this book.

Agree.

Williaminagingerwig · Today 06:55

About Harry's appearance - yes, he certainly looks older than 42. He shouldn't have made those egregious statements about William's baldness, otherwise his own wouldn't be an issue.
However, this is a very wealthy man with no job to worry about, and who has been living in the California sunshine for 6 years, going to the beach and playing with his dogs.
He should look a lot healthier than this.

noonames · Today 06:56

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere in Harry’s little drug addled brain, he’s entertained the idea of bringing down the RF and then a restoration with himself as king 😂
And also that the rush to come back was in order to make maximum hay at KC3’s expense during the furore Uncle Charles’s book - plans made at Althorp in the summer.
As I said though, I haven’t had any sleep so fairly addled myself.

A brief comment on the book, if I may. It seems unwise to try and create a narrative that is so obviously countered by the tv coverage and public record people saw and read at the time. No one remembers private conversations with total accuracy 30 years later and to write them in a way that doesn't fit with the known character of at least one of the participants seems short sighted.

I think this book was written at least 10 and probably 20 years too late for it to be believable by the majority or cause anything more than a week of articles in the press. Most are too young to remember, or care much, about Diana and those of us who are old enough to have lived through those events know what we saw and heard and that the book isn't congruent with the evidence.

Much as some would like it to this doesn't say much about the monarchy or the monarch, but quite a lot about the author.

Looking at the clip of his visit, I think H looks incredibly nervous. What's with the flapping about with his jacket - shall I do it up or not? - and his movements are jerky and all over the place and he took quite a bit of a detour from the car door (perhaps he expected an escort). And that fixed inane grin..... he certainly looks totally unsure about how he will be received.

I would love to know what Sarah and Jane think about all this . From what I have read they were much closer to Diana than Charles S . If i remember correctly Sarah was a Lady in Waiting for a while .
Also they travelled to Paris with Charles R so would have seen his reaction .

Harry is acting like a muppet trying to do bantz with the service men to prove he's got the natural touch. He should have brought his juggling balls.

Unfortunately, Jane and Sarah weren't talking to Diana at the time of her death, nor was her mother, not her brother. Diana could be something of a difficult and mercurial character. However, I'm sure her sisters are horrified by this nasty, exploitative book.

I didn’t know Diana and her sisters weren’t speaking but I do recall about her mother being critical of Diana’s relationship with Dodi. I also remember reading that Jane felt in a difficult position as she was married to a senior courtier Robert Fellowes who was naturally pro RF.

It will be interesting to see if they keep silent, which I think they should. We all saw Charles on camera at the time and I find it very hard to believe that he was totally different in private.

Both sisters have been extremely diplomatic whilst keeping ties with the Royal family and their family, with William and Harry. I can't see them being thrilled with this book.
