Prince George at Eton

Can anyone explain why Prince George is boarding at Eton when the family home is just minutes away across the river?

I think @OneLilacHedgehog was thinking, people like the royals can afford to be that fussy, and most parents who can, would. But maybe I got that wrong.

Not all at the same time. If they all go at 13, George will have left before Louis gets there. And they won't all be at the same school, because Charlotte can't go to Eton - and then they might decide on somewhere else for Louis.

I find it odd too. I wonder if the posters who are denigrating George would feel it acceptable to criticise the children of a Labour MP?

I saw an interesting documentary once in which Andrew Neil (working class grammar school boy) investigated why Eton has produced so many PMs (amongst other prominent people). He spoke to some of the older boys and they were very thoughtful in the answers they gave.

One said that at Eton they were given responsibility from a very young age for organising all kinds of activities. They could start newspapers and societies but had to do all the spadework - writing to speakers etc, entertaining them to dinner, organising venues etc. He said that this made them feel they could tackle anything in the outside world and got them used to dealing with adults - and high-powered adults- on equal terms - a huge advantage in life.

They came over as confident, yes, but not bumptious or arrogant. Just a sample of lads, sure, but the programme gave an insight into how the school fosters the self-assurance it’s famous for.

I can’t take posts like that seriously. Those pps are just small-minded.

To be fair, there are lots of very good day schools within reach, eg St Paul's, Westminster, King's, Hampton ...

This does not make sense. A royal, a literal representative of England, but does not think the national schools are good enough for them? They should be proud of the excellent school system we have and be part of it, or if not, advocate for its improvement. Same with going private for the birth of their children. I’m actually fucking raging here on behalf of everyone one who was adopted and anyone who raised an adopted child. How dare you?

This forum is called “Mumsnet” for a reason, if you find yourself unable to contain snarky comments or insults towards an innocent child of 13 , purely because you don’t like his parents or their actions, you should really take a look at yourself and wonder why ! , the so called Sussex haters have an almost 100 percent agreement that the children are off limits…perhaps that should carry over to all children.

I live in Australia, I went to a private school as a day pupil. It was also a boarding school, some girls were from the country, one girl in my form was a diplomats daughter, the family lived in Fiji at the time. Also some scholarship students from PNG.

You haven't understood my post. I was referring to people in general, people in the past , people in my family who took jobs to avoid what was actually worse than a mediocre life. It was an abysmal life. This is getting slightly off topic but it relates back to people choosing their jobs to suit their family. That is a luxury for many now and in the past.

Probably the only kid in that school with two unemployed parents.

Now you know my reaction when another royal, who lived in a town in the US with excellent schools funded by his wealthy town's probably exorbitant taxes, decided to move to the UK to send his children to a UK boarding school.
