Charles 3 needs to sort this - he should be instrumental in removing line of succession (and titles if at all possible) unfortunately I suspect he’s not courageous enough to do this so will leave the job to William.
A lot has been said about Diana on this thread and her imperfections (some very big and some small) but it’s important for people younger than say 55 that she was a very young 19 when she me Charles and 20 when married……she knew (and this was extensively reported at the time) that Charles and Camilla were in some sort of relationship seemingly more than just friends - I honestly believe everything that went wrong for Diana was from her early days of her ‘courtship’ and marriage.
She just couldn’t handle what she had been thrown into and we should cut her some slack because of it.

It'll be left to William unfortunately. Hence HAM and hamlets are scuttling back now. Huge media push on the way "KC dying wish for his boys to reconcile blah blah"

It's worth remembering that Diana, according to Alastair Campbell (who should know), gave Tony Blair advice for how to make the most of photo-ops.

She also wanted to be involved in the peace process in N. Ireland. The general; consensus is that Charles was harsh in insisting that she should lose HRH, but having discovered that, I'm less sure.

One such moment is a killingly self-revealing story I didn’t know (and as a Diana biographer myself it always quickens my pulse to find a nugget that escaped me). According to Alastair Campbell, in 1995 Diana advised an as-yet unelected Tony Blair “to touch people in pictures” and be sure to be photographed with “down and outs”. “Children with no hair,” she told Blair coolly, “were especially effective in curating a reputation for compassion.” A mask-off moment hard to forget. The future PM was, White tells us, “rapt by her shrewdness and savvy”. But not enough to want to give her the formal ambassadorial role she craved when he got into Downing Street. By then, tabloid coverage of her multiple affairs and her association with the son of the tawdry Mohamed Al-Fayed, who had been caught up in an MP bribery scandal, were too much of a political risk. However, when I met with her in New York in June 1997, the princess clearly was still hankering to be the British government’s freelance Queen of Hearts. Her huge, limpid blue eyes filled with artful sincerity when she told me across the lunch that she felt she could be “an enormous help” to bringing peace to Northern Ireland.

Oh she was notoriously manipulative

I’d heard, but never realised she was so coldly calculating!

Still shocked - and honestly, I’m no great fan.

Omg , Omid has been rehired. Guess his little foray into California llfe did’t work out either, so he has had to crawl back out of the woodwork and get his old job back..

I'm just on your age cut-off. I grew up watching Diana.

There are lots of different opinions on Diana. Some people look at her marriage, others look at her early childhood, and so on. Your post comes across as rather patronising, and quite dismissive towards others with different opinions.

There are several reasons I posted what I did:

1 There are some posters on this forum who suggest that any criticism of Diana is due to a palace conspiracy. I'd be very surprised if Alastair Campbell was involved in that.

2 I think there are clear parallels between Diana's behaviour with the press and Harry's (and his wife's) behaviour with the press. She courted them and fought them interchangeably.

3 Current thinking seems to be to preserve Diana's memory as if she was always 19/20. Diana was a woman in her 30s when she died. She was powerful and successful in many ways - and responsible for her actions.

That same thinking is constantly applied to Harry. He and Meghan were constantly referred to as a 'young couple' when they were engaged and got married, and contrasted with his brother. He is 2 years younger than his brother, and Meghan is the oldest of all of them. People consistently refer to Harry as of he were still the young boy who lost his mother; he is a man in his 40s who is responsible for his actions.

It is a very bad move on HaM's part to deploy Omid.

Endgame and that malicious "accidental" naming of the alleged "racist royals" is something HaM can never come back from.

BasiliskStare · 25/08/2026 13:59

@CoffeeCantata I do agree about manners. My granny had a saying "Dukes don't swear at dustmen" . She meant no disrespect to dustmen , it was an alliterative phrase to mean be respectful to everyone.

ETA they may inadvertently have done a favour to all housekeepers , gardeners etc working in their new area , because surely they will be bending over backwards to be nice to all staff who work with them now. (one hopes 😊)

He's pretty confident she will accept a huge payoff

It would be a HUGE shame if kc3 paid Sentable off. Very unethical and not keeping with the zeitgeist of accountability and fairness in modern orgs. The best things would be to let it run and see what the outcome is. If Harry is proven to have done those things Sophie accused him off kc3 should strip his son off his titles. Not leave it to William and his legacy to deal with wayward family members.

I firmly believe he will pay. I know H is not a working royal but he's milking his duke , prince, son of King etc. KC will absolutely not want his son's very damning text messages out in the open.

Very odd. So ironic to claim they're not the same people who left via HIM. We all associate him with the brutal online trolling the princess of Wales was subjected to.

I see another Freedom flight in a year or 2. Netflix Doc. HAM hamlets, how the RF let them down again or such nonsense

Not patronising or dismissive at all (don’t be so sensitive!!) don’t worry I wasn’t attacking a particularl pp.
Diana had her faults as I said but younger people (55-) didn’t live through it.
I think of myself at 19/20 and how young and naive I was - her life as a child was pretty miserable but her young adult life was extremely miserable if you read her words and the press at the time too.
I honestly believe a lot of her behaviour at the time and later was in response to the hand she had been dealt. Hence we should cut her a bit of slack.

BasiliskStare · 25/08/2026 14:14

I've just read the Omid Scobie piece. I would say everything he cites as being part of a slow and methodical plan to return to Britain could also be put down to decreasing income. Just sayin' 😊.

If they have been rude to everyone else, maybe he is the only one who will work with them 🤷‍♀️

altesse · 25/08/2026 14:24

I believe Diana brought her own problems to the marriage. I don’t believe she was solely damaged by the marriage. She was already that by the hand she’d been dealt growing up.

Some people are giddy at 19. Most are not.

People are working, raising children, serving their country at 19 and younger. There is no space to be giddy.

I’m not into infantilising young women or excusing poor or manipulative behaviour because of circumstance.

We have choices to be the people we should be and act accordingly.

We may get it wrong but that is on us.

I think it depends who or what is funding Sentebale's court case. If it takes funds away from their activities, then a settlement is in the best interests of their longterm future. If, however, the action is being funded separately by someone who wants to see the points about misgovernance etc being taken to court, that's a different matter. Hoping Sentebale don't settle even if it's in their interests to do so is punitive towards H, rather than restorative towards the charity.

It's also worth remembering that at the start of the 1980s, for most people reaching the age of 18 meant you had reached adulthood and had finished education.
Only 15% of the population went on to any form of higher education at that time (about half of that number to university).

For the rest of the population that would have meant finding employment. For Diana, an aristocrat, that would have meant enjoying her life until she found a husband.

When they filed the case they said it was being funded externally

At a time when international aid is contracting and the needs of children across Southern Africa are growing, the work Sentebale delivers for 78,000 young lives is increasingly critical. The charity should not continue to use its resources to manage and address the damage this adverse media campaign has caused to its operations and partnerships. This must stop. The Board and Executive Director have taken this legal action to secure that protection. The costs of doing so are met entirely by external funding and no charitable funds have been used.

I think people are judging age nineteen by today’s standards, back in the early eighties it was incredibly common to be married or engaged at that age and to be in the workforce from sixteen it’s nothing like today when becoming an adult seems to be getting later and later. By nineteen Diana had been to finishing school in Switzerland, she then went to cookery school and then had various jobs, a cleaner, nanny and kindergarten assistant, she also owned her own apartment and lived as a single woman flat sharing, she lived as an independent adult and certainly didn’t go straight from Althorp to the Palace, she lived as an independent adult woman prior to marriage.

I'm pretty sure that Dr Sophie has said that the court case is not being financed by Sentebale's funds.

Absolutely!

The way people treat those who can’t answer back is a huge indicator of character - as in being obnoxious to waiters etc.

I think it’s well known that Cilla Black was notorious on British Airways for her terrible rudeness to staff whereas David Niven was so popular with the Heathrow baggage handlers that they sent a huge floral tribute to his funeral. I’ve read lots about DN and he does seem to be what he appears to be: an absolute gent!
