Project Thaw - Conspiracy Theory or Grain of Truth?

22YearsAndCounting · 24/04/2026 23:04

After Harry’s Ukraine comments I accidentally fell into the rabbit hole that is Project Thaw. In summary it’s meant to be a behind the scenes plot which is aiming to get Harry back on Royal duties and back with his estranged family.

KC is said to be involved, as well as several senior government ministers. I thought it was some mad conspiracy theory but the deeper I went in the rabbit hole the more it kinda makes sense.

Harry and his quasi royal tours every 2 months. Canada, Nigeria, Ukraine (a few times) and Australia. Some of the so called experts say that Harry doesn’t have the capability to organise such tours and must have the help of the grey men. Also he’s back on the royal rota apparently back since September 2025.

One of the YouTube’s clips I watched was an ex-PR person who explained in more detail. Can’t remember her name. Fascinating!

I mean it does make sense, he is a liability out there on his own. The grey men managed to successfully make him a “cheeky happy” when he can all see now that this certainly not the case!!

What’s everyone’s thoughts? I mean I really can’t see William going for it, but maybe it’s last ditch attempt by our weak King to get Harry back into the fold before William is King.

I mean he’s a working Royal. I don’t have any time for any of them, but he lives in the UK, does his ‘duty’ and doesn’t embarrass the family.

What do you make of his highly selective and increasingly infrequent 'duty' appearances (Royalling with a small 'r') while still enthusiastically skimming public bodies and charities to swell his personal wallet?

Not a lot. I think they’re mostly whining and spoilt.

CalicoCaterina · 25/04/2026 22:00

I agree @LaurenBacal , the RF is a completely flawed institution with its future far from secure. But Hazza chose out, he chose to spill his version of his guts very publicly despite wanting a quiet life away from the RF.

Hazza’s star has faded already, yet despite his reasons for leaving he is now cashing in on his connections with the institution he chose to leave by engaging in quasi royal tours.

I’m on the fence about the RF these days, but the King, Queen and other working royals do not make their ‘work’ about themselves and generally keep their mouths shut.

I don't think it's possible to differentiate any redeeming good between the venal lot TBH.

All appalling.

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/04/2026 22:16

I'm sure Charles would love to see a private reconciliation, as would any father. I'm equally sure he is fed up with every private meeting being leaked to the press.

I don't see much evidence Harry even wants to come back to the Institution and represent the King. He doesn't appear to believe anything has changed (35 years of service according to him) and that visiting people to make money and talk about yourself is "service", so why would he feel the need to come back?

@Baital "I think H wants what he has always wanted, to have his cake and sat it - to be a Proper Royal but still do whatever he chants."

Bit like his brother then.

Shift has started.

There is no job description for royalling.

Queen Victoria disappeared for years after Albert died.

The turn-up-and-be-seen QE2 model forged pre- mass media is antiquated.

And W isn't king yet.

I'd prefer a monarch who just comes out when needed.

Who are the grey men

I think its clear that Harry and Meghan are working their way back to royal life... what else can they do, as much is i support them

BemusedAmerican · 25/04/2026 23:44

I'll say one thing for William. He actually spends time with his family instead of just talking about it. Have also spending his own money on housing in Cornwall. He seems to do rather than press conference.

There’s an interestingly placed article from yesterday and online in the Telegraph this morning.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2026/04/25/prince-william-kate-middleton-15th-anniversary/

It needs archiving for all to be able to read it, but the flavour of it is happy couple, stability, great parents, keen on family ties, focused workloads, restructuring where needed, supportive of each other.

Of Harry:

The Sussexes had by then lobbed the grenade of their momentous interview with Oprah Winfrey. Their Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir (described by one Palace insider now only as “the other noise from other parts of the world”) would follow shortly, but so would much worse.

It’s by Hannah Furness the Royal Editor.

You can't work your way into royal life. You are either a Senior Working royal who represents the monarch, a role incompatible with commercial projects and accepting freebies, or you aren't. Harry and Meghan have chosen to make money and do the occasional charity visit whilst selling the clothes they are wearing.

They are members of the royal family, just like ZaraTindall or Princess Beatrice. Not working Royals like The Prince and Princess of Wales or the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Nothing new there.

It’s more of a timely reminder that ‘Harry left the Firm’ and William and Catherine are the Firm’s stable future as equals. Bit of a dig at H&M there, but yeah nothing particularly new in and of itself.

Harry refusing to accept he’s no longer a working royal isn’t surprising
The man is bald ( no shame in that ) and refuses to even accept that truth ! ( airbrushing photos / stupid tuft at the front )

Refuses to accept reality even pertaining to his appearance- he must be impossible to deal with!

Now Meghan is posting u got this hun astrology memes on her IG - maybe that's how she copes with him?

Neither of them seem to have the wit to realise and appreciate how fortunate they were and still are.

Both constantly caught in the victim narrative. It must be exhausting to be around both of them.

CathyorClaire · Yesterday 10:36

Thanks for the article. Quite a lot of puff there much in the vein of what we've had before i.e. softening up the public to accept less in the way of 'work' while the royal pair do as they like out of sight.

Quite nauseating to see W using the RNLI as a showcase when he was charging lifeboat stations to launch over Duchy beaches not so long ago.

£600pa for 6 lifeboat stations I believe. It was to establish legal rights for both parties and abolished in 2024. William became Duke of Cornwall in Sept 2022.
